Thoughts on the new Letter from the Producer? (May 20)

I'm holding my aplause for the 1.18 patch, but I am impressed with the ammount of content they are working on. I'm not thrilled when they seem to talk about UI elements they need to do "Cost assesment" as in how much will it cost to do it...

If the next patch turns out amazing then I'm back on the train, if it's so-so I'll continue waiting.

I'm not sure they mean "Cost" as in how much money it would take to produce. Rather I think "Cost" refers to what kind of strain it puts on the servers overall. Is there too much data needing to be stored? Ect.

I read cost as being the allocation of man hours to the task. But it could be either of those things.

You do know a "fanboy" is one that says nothing is wrong with the game they're a "fanboy" of, right? I've yet to read one of her posts that says nothing is wrong with the game. And its clear where your nose has been this entire time. My misuse of the word fanboy doesn't change anything, Elexia is still policing how people talk. If you and Elexia actually spoke with any clarity and didn't get defensive, or aggressive if you prefer because I guess defensive is too big a word, people might actually consider your ideas. But when you blurt out crap and start jumping all over anyone who opposes how do you think people's reaction will be? And you haven't seen me post in any topic against Elexia other than this one, but I understand you need anything and you figured lying is the way to make your point.

It does. It proves you're the one doing the attacking and "policing". In order to be a fanboy you have to say there's nothing wrong with the game and defend every flaw, which I honestly see no one doing.

honestly, Elexia is not a gamer. he plays the game with developer mind or something so he doesn't know what players exactly need from playing the game. I think he playing the game for other reason, he's not really "play" the game

I think all this information has been great. Some of it was known, but we have a bit more detail and confirmation. Its like Yoshi-P resended the gag order on information flow. And while there are some more specific details I'd like to know about, I am happy that someone over at SE has taken an actual stance on a direction for this game. So Akihiko Matsui is now my favorite SE employee for basically telling us how it will be and that you might not like it, but too bad. Take it or leave it.

Jumping examination as been pushed back... meh. I was hoping they would at least examine it before adding lots of new stuff, so they can already plan new things to fit with jumping.

I feel ya... But you should wait till the changes come, and then say the things you just said. For all you know you'll love the new system a lot more that what it is now.

I have a feeling the new system is going to be deep, especially with the inclusion of Materia(tentative name) stat boots items.

Aside from all the exciting changes coming to the battle and armoury systems that were previously announced, here are my personal favorites:

In-Game Achievement Management
YES!!! I am an achievement junkie! I was first introduced to achievements in Warhammer, and got officially hooked when they implemented the system in WoW. I realize that FFXIV has been tracking our achievements since day one, but you can currently only find them in your history on the Lodestone. It will be nice to be able to see them in game.

Action Bar Revisions
I know this ties into the new battle system, but it's also a UI issue and the action bars are something that's been a real source of contention for me. I'm tired of the clunkiness, having to flip through 3 different bars, and reset abilities. I'm glad this is something they're prioritizing.

Ifrit Battle
Our first primal! Will Summoner be an option with the new job system? Can't wait!

Auction House?
Looks like the jury is still out on replacing the market wards with a traditional auction house. They're still open to the idea and are currently making a final decision.

Mount System
Kind of odd how FFXIV is STILL loathe to come out and say chocobos, for some reason. I'll just be glad to have something more than anima and a pair of worn out shoes.

Configuration Menu Improvements
Settings done via text commands will now also be available in the configuration menu. Finally. I'm getting too old to remember a giant list of text commands anymore, LOL.

Custom Chat Log Tabs
The system is pretty much already in place. You can make your own windows. I've never understood why you can't make your own tabs. This is something I've nitpicked about for a while.

He listed 'Future Tasks' as well as 'Current Tasks' - can you clarify on whether or not that means he intends on completing all of the 'Future Tasks' by the end of the summer? Or is it just the 'Current Tasks' that are planned to be complete by then?

Could you let the dev team know that the titles on that table are a bit confusing. Planned, Current Tasks, Future Tasks in one way or another kinda all mean the same thing. I believe Planned is just a sub-header, and Current/Future Tasks are the actual plans/actions going on. But at first glance its very confusing.

I think they are saying "mount system" and not "chocobos" because they don't want to limit themselves to only chocobos.

There are places where they don't talk about actual implementation but just "examination, "assessment", etc..

For example:

1. Mount System: They say : "Establishment of details for mount system".
2. Job System: "Cost assessment for job system implementation", "Determine the attributes of each job". Same thing here.

So that means they will only plan the mount system and not actually implement it before the end of summer? Same thing for job system?

Under "future tasks" for achievements, it mentions "implementation". I assume that means they will be implemented before the end of summer.

Under "future tasks" for the mount system, it just says "establishment of details", so I assume that means that by the end of summer, they'll have just "established the details".

Exactly there are some places where they clearly say they will "implement" something, and other places where they just say they will "examine", "assess", etc..

But the letter was so long, and put in such a way that you had the impression all of this was going to be implemented.
