What is marauder's role?

Better me point out the obvious Marauder flaws now before it matters, than for you and every marauder to sit there wallowing in self pity and pointless job pride for years like players like you did in FFXI on classes like warrior. Players like you let people walk all over your job. It was disgusting to see warriors, thieves, and dragoons sit there and take it like sheep back then instead of fighting for what they deserved, which was equal status compared to a paladin and black mage.

Right now Marauder is just a subjob for gladiators to take advantage of, and you don't even see that or care.

It was your own faults really. Not detecting that your job was in trouble before it actually got left in town back then. You're to blame for just as much class imbalance in FFXI as the "elitists" as you sit there and insist you're good enough. As the teams ammassing thaumaturges, archers and gladiators just snicker at you.

You aren't. The second this game matters is the second you get left in town, because THIS job is poorly designed.

Warriors were one of the best Melee in FFXI. Did you even play FFXI? When merited up WAR's did crazy ass damage, only WAR's that never got parties are the ones who either sucked or were gimped as hell.

Hardly anyone kept up with my WAR in FFXI in terms of damage over time.

MRD could use some updates, I think they'll get better or at least brought more in-line with the FFXI WAR.

I bet Archers, Thm's will see some nerfage sooner or later.

For 4 years, warriors were worse than thieves. There was a time when you all were so terrible, you actually had to stop rampaging and open with mistral axe for me or they'd kick you and invite someone who could.

I see I'm pretty much the only meleer here who even knows what kind of hell the early FFXI was on meleers.

Or we could skip all that and do class balance right the first time. Save me the annoyance and you the pain of seeing the same mistakes made all over again.

Warrior is what it is in FFXIV because of players like me fighting for it. Not because of players like you who sat there mistral axeing and rolling over at the drop of a hat because you're PROUD of your job.

Pride has nothing to do with it. It's not pride when you overestimate your capability, utility and worth. It's fanboyism and arrogance.

Marauder is NO warrior. That's for damn sure. Marauder's right on time. It's about to be left in town just like warrior in 2003.

The only reason your warrior GOT good in FFXI is because of players like me demanding equality and balance. So you're welcome.

It really is true that one of the biggest difficulties in stopping inequality is the sluggishness and denial of the oppressed themselves. Wake up. Job's got no viable utility, and that party member slot is better off going to either a gladiator, mage, or archer.

Marauder deserves better than this. If you want to sit there and argue paper sack arguments like we crowd control and we off-tank, you go right on ahead. Not good enough for my standards.

Mrd, Pug, and Lnc are all pretty generic and without a reliable parser it's hard to tell which does the most damage. Note I didn't list archer because well...it's archer. This is also not taking into account mob weaknesses. It's pretty uncontested a conj will destroy anyone else in aoe damage played right.

Until we see the battle mechanics changes arguing is moot. Enmity is a joke right now with buffing. Tanking is a joke right now with aegis/deflection. All melee are generic with the atk buffs, invig, and all that jazz slotted. Basically at one point their all the same class just different weapons.

Arguing isn't moot. The three meleers are fundamentally disadvantaged just like they were set up to be in FFXI. The same thing will happen if no attention is paid to balance. Marauder has NO ONE looking out for it. Certainly the archers won't argue that you need a role. They own your role. Enhancing you will make them feel less wanted and important. They'll argue this job is fine. The developers won't move unless they have to, because class balance is difficult work. And the marauders...they're too busy being complacent and arrogant pridemongering fanboys about how awesome carrying a big axe is. Half of them won't even admit they're disadvantaged until endgame mentality starts treating them like the 2nd class citizens they're on the fast track to becoming.

So fix it now. Demand it now. It's easier to balance it when it doesn't matter than to try to fix it once there's an obvious problem. If you get enough delusional marauders commenting to me that they're good at crowd control, I, as a conjurer, will eventually snap and just straight start making fun of them and not inviting any marauder who'se silly enough to think they are. Like the RDM/WARs before them who think they can melee, so will I treat the MRD who thinks they can tank or crowd control.

Lancers are trying to be party support DDs. Even if they need a lot of enhancement, at least that out-of-DD role is viable. It can be a Corsair-like job. Pugilist and marauders are trying to be things--off tanks, crowd control, hate control...that aren't even viable concepts in light of other jobs already being conceptually and fundamentally better at those roles. They won't work. They'll be lolthief. The concepts are poorly-constructed and unneded. Because they're fundamentally gimped at what they're trying to be, damage is the only other thing they're actually going to get credit for doing. And as long as archer is archer, they aren't even good at that.

Pugilist, lancer, and marauder have no potential as-designed, and marauder and pugilist are fundamentally poor ideas at their foundation.

Pugs, mrd, lnc all parse within 3% of each other...in a party they'll all be at 17-19% of party damage, a mage will be at around 20-22%, and an archer around 23-25% at NMs. It gets even worse in SP parties, where the archer's doing up to 40% of a full party's damage.

And endgame, where a lot of these so-called marauders claim they'll shine, they won't even be invited. Gladiators are better tanks. Mages are better controllers, AoE'ers and supporters. Archers are better damagers.

There are no more roles that are of any use to an endgame team. That is an inescapable fact. If teams wipe to endgame, meleers' low output compared to archers will be blamed, and they will be sent back to town so the team can have another archer. The marauder will bitch and moan that they're good at tanking and good at AoEs and good at crowd control, and the jobs that are REALLY good at all of those things will simply laugh at them.

No, a marauder isn't good at anything that matters. Like FFXI thieves. Instead of bragging about duo'ing charybdis, marauders brag about how well they can occupy braggodocios. Congrats. No one cares.
