Why no regional servers?

Just because they have regional servers doesn't mean they have to be region-locked.

In this day and age it is easy enough to out-source to servers in other countries.

And there should be servers around the globe to decrease latency issues. If you have 1000ms latency to servers in japan then everything you do will be delayed by minimum of one second. That's ridiculous.

Someone needs to stop using dialup if they have a 1000ms ping

Yeah seriously. A good ping is <100, 100-400 is generally tolerable, 400+ is bad. With a good connection that's less than a 10th of a second.

Even 400 isn't even that bad for an MMO. As long as you're not doing PvP, even pings up to 5-600 are tolerable (if they balance it correctly with input delay even better).

First of all, you're not necessarily restricted to *your language* There's one lovely option named "learning languages" :D
The fact that you speak english doesn't mean that that lovely option is useless to you. That's one of the advantags of an international environment, instead of locking yourself up in your own little national ghetto.
Also, you're making up percentages, as you don't know how many non native english speakers actually speak english.

You're missing the point. Even if the servers aren't region locked, people have to *chose* between their friends from a region, and those from other regions. It's obsolete, and in a globalized internet where people make friends *everywhere* it's an extremely dumb and counterproductive option.

What's obsolete is waiting 2 seconds for your attacks to fire.

And not everyone has time to brush up on their Japanese and Italian that they stopped learning when they left highschool just because of some unnecessary hurdle in an MMO.

Interesting. My skills fire instantly with the last patch, and they never got even near 2 seconds since when they implemented the new server structure (mind you, not even one second) someone has a bad connection, or is using some serious hyperbole.

Nope. I live in a real world where people learn foreign languages because it's useful. A videogame helping to improve them is definitely an added bonus.

Or perhaps that segregated servers are stagnant. What happens when I play during "Lowtime" on the NA server but can't play with anyone because the majority of the NA world sleeps?

Too many issues with players being on at odd times, I think it's a downright silly thing segregated servers. Hell in XI there was little to no "Server lag" and in XIV I still see little server lag and we have been told this is all server side issues not regional issues.

The reason we take so long to do ____ is because all the actions are server side instead of client side, they have been slowly migrating functions to client side for much faster feedback.
