If Google Translate hasn't failed me (which it probably has), these "upgrades" to armor and/or weapons that were mentioned earlier in the thread are created using what's tentatively being called the "Materia Craft System" or something to that extent. The upgrades themselves would possibly be called "Manastone" or "Materia" based on this quote from another player:

I think they went with some VII-esque stuff is back a few months before the game came out an article came out saying they wanted to attract FF rpgers instead of just the XI people. Go read a forum of just people who played FF rpgs, and what they said about XI or XIV getting a number in the series, they are vicious and ignorant, why attract them lol. I miss when mmos didn't try to attract the masses. Heres hoping ffxiv sucking hard for a bit will make it a good community (like XI or Age of Conan, that game might not be great but AoC has a great community because the game sucked hard for two years and all the people who didn't really want to play gtfo)
