Servers Locked Again..!!

Best thing a company can do is to ignore all the whine on a release day. SWTOR has shown what happens if they don't!
@Vertexdude This seems to be your first MMO Release since all you do is whine about things that always happens. And ppl that can't do anything else than whine and insult others aren't needed.

I think they underestimated the fact that there are a lot of people out there who recently quit WoW and are looking for a new MMO to play. If Square Enix gets a fraction of the customers that left WoW in the last 6 months, in addition to what they were expecting, that could easily double the # of people playing the game.

The thing I don't get though, they should know exactly how many people pre-ordered the game so far. Therefore, they should be able to calculate demand and provide adequate server capacity. Unless there was a mad rush to buy the game in the last few days and they were unable to upgrade their data centers fast enough.

Perhaps, they underestimated the will of players to play right away, meaning the # of concurrent users opting to participate in early access as soon as it was available and thus pounding SE's servers to death for the past 7 hours.

Maybe they didn't underestimate, but just didn't feel like spending the money on it. They may have felt a little inconvenience to their customers is worth saving millions of $, especially when they expect the concurrent user count will diminish over time and the server load will take care of itself eventually.

I don't see how you can fully fault SE for this, they have tried to do everything they can for this community to give us a new game. There is a cap on server capacity, every MMO has it so this is nothing new.

I mean we have a whole 5 servers to try and, not only fit all the 1.0 on, but our 2.0 friends because players didn't want us on new 2.0 servers. Yet there are 20 new servers, for 2.0 characters and their friends to pick from and if people are on a 2.0 server they only have like 4 days of saved levels which is easy to get back if they really wanna play with friends.

If people don't want to make it work to be together thats not SE's fault. I know 1.0 people who totally started over on new servers to be with their friends. But SE is trying to do the right thing by balancing the server so they have good communities/populations and there isn't really anything wrong with that other than it being an inconvenience.

It's not even official launch, I think of early access as Phase 5 of the beta. They get to iron out all the congestion issues before the big day. Imagine, if early access is congested when only a limited amount of people are connecting then launch day will be worse when the whole world can connect. I think they are doing a great job given the situation, all those other MMOs that were mentioned that didn't have lockup issues at launch were probably not as popular so not that much ppl connecting. They were probably not expecting this many people wanting to play their game and what is the point of having, for example 80 servers when you are only expecting to use 40 just a waste but now that they are aware of how popular their game is they are doing all they can. So it's either maintenance or let everyone connect and the servers will crash and you wont be able to play anyway so hang in there is only for a few hours.

There isn't even a problem keeping people logged in, they brought the servers down for maintenance. Everyone who lost connection around 11AM EDT was victim to SE pulling the plug to fix the Duty Finder.

Most people get its launch day and downtime is pretty standard. But for gods sake do not say "its early access wait till launch" because that has nothing to do with it launch day will probably have problems too. Anyone that played 1.0 is so damn tired of this kicking the can down the road "its beta/EA/whatever wait till X" crap. I rather hear the people whining about the downtime then that.

A couple hours ago on Cactuar, a FATE spawned near me in Central Shroud, and then 15-30 seconds later I saw a sea of 150-200 people running towards me. It was a massive group that was a mile long and pretty deep. The servers are pretty jam packed. There obviously aren't enough servers to spread the population out adequately.

BTW kudos to SE for excellent graphics performance in this game, I thought my video card was going to explode, but it didn't.

Early access is free, the official start of service doesn't start 'till the 27th even if you preordered.
