I love my male character, but he's not really supposed to be masculine and cool, so I've always been frustrated with having his animations be too masculine for him. Having a different set of emote animations would be awesome. I was really disappointed seeing that /twirl had different animations too; what's the point? Twirling is inherently very whimsical and playful, so why does the male animation have to tone it down? They don't tone down /hum, so why do they have to tone down /twirl?

Commenting to show my support for this! I always hated the gendered emotes - my character is a tomboy Miqo'te, so I always wanted access to some of the male characters emotes. please, just remove the genderlock from all emotes in the game and let us switch/cycle through them with the change pose emote!
-
I don't really have that much complaints with the poses given to me coz of my character's sex but I think gpose-wise me and a lot of folks could benefit from having two variations of the same emote!!!
-
I'm all for this! I keep thinking of them as /twirlcute and /twirlcool, but even an A/B or change pose option would work. Sometimes boys are cute and sometimes girls are cool! (not to mention all the variety of gender expressions across people and cultures)
-
seconding this - everyone else has really said it all already but it's always a bummer! if we're gonna get two different versions, i'd much prefer if we could just choose which one we'd like to use, especially when there's a considerable difference between them. :(
edit : sort of adjacent to this - gear looking wildly different between genders also always sucks. the ophiotauros/neo-ishgardian sets and the new tycoon tights are some examples of "oh that's fully a different outfit" ones, but this goes for everytime the female version of the gear has shorts or bare legs and the male version has pants/the female version of the gear has random openings the male version didn't, too. :(

Adding support to this, because gendering gear in this game is pretty ridiculous as it is and there's even less reason to gender lock emotes and poses. I'm glad they've begun making older gear gender neutral but there's still a good bit of work that needs to be done especially if they're still doing this.
I've always thought the race and gender locked variations on various base emotes has been a bit silly. You can make the argument culturally that there's some logic to having them race locked but... I play a female Xaela and a lot of these emotes feel so excessively cutesy for them considering what their lore can be like.
The most obnoxious victim of this to me though is the /spectacles emote. Since I prefer my character wearing glasses I was a bit excited and amused finding out about this emote given the animation for when Briardien adjusts his glasses in cutscenes. I was disappointed finding out after unlocking it that the animation is bizarrely race and gender specific and as a female Xaela I got stuck with an animation that feels a bit comical in how feminine and cutesy it is for adjusting a pair of glasses, especially compared to what I assumed I was going to get.

but we'll I think there is laws in a couple countries could also be why the emote and gears are like that tho I don't mind those even am in favor for those but eh just have to see the bigger picture overall
-
Throwing in my support. I appreciate that they're doing more work to bring two variants of the emotes, but that should mean we get double the emotes, not one genderlocked one.

I play a female Roegadyn, and the cutesy feminimity doesn't fit both her physical looks and the style conveyed by the race-specific emotes. Femroes just look and move more masculine and a bit of elegant, rather than cutesy. There are so many ways to convey feminimity, but it feels like the game enforces cutesy as the only acceptable way. I can't help but feel like outfits and emotes are designed with only the smaller races like Lala's and Miqo's in mind

Throwing my support in. I have hated how the animation gender differences feel since I got the Sundrop Dance way back in Heavensward. Also the weapon idle stances just don't make sense being genderlocked either. Just give us Cpose 1 and Cpose 2.
