Now I kind of wonder if the other features or maybe even the hair play a role in the effect it seems to have on my character, as to me the difference was immediately noticeable. Especially from a distance the eyes sometimes feel too small to me because I am used to the old ones. But I am glad it doesn't bother you as much :)Quote:

I agree with a lot of people from the previous posts. I read YoshiP's benchmark update post, but I think there's way more than the lighting issue in the character creation control.
Personally, there are a couple things that bothers me with my graphic updated Miqo'te.
1. The eyebrow shape changed. I use brow 2 on Keeper face 3. I love the swing up at the end of the brow, which is the reason I picked this one. However, the graphic update completely changed its shape, making it very flat. I feel this chisels away some playfulness from my character.
2. Face line is too round and smooth (like many people mentioned). I'm using jaw 1. I personally don't like this because it makes my Miqo'te looks way too young.
3. The eyes look a bit rounder in the new model. Especially the distance between the outer edge of the upper eye lid and the hairline. It's only a slight difference but it does de-age my Miqo'te.
Other things like dead eyes, dull lips, etc., I won't mention again. Generally I'm disappointed but not as bad as some people who main other races.
Hope they can fix the model before Dawntrail.

I made a comparison picture for my character.
The lighting and its impact on the character's appearance is so different between the aetherial and sunlit zones that I had to include both.
The aetherial light gives the character a really vacant look.
I also worked out what has changed about the mouth shape. I don't think it's the mouth itself (although that has been altered on some other character types) but the shadows around it. The current mouth has shadows that dip downwards from the corners, but the altered mouth has a shadow centred on the corner of the mouth, and this makes the ends seem to go upwards - so the character seems to smile even though the expression is still neutral.
As other people have noted, the eyebrow shape has been changed. It is thinner and paler, and lacks dark detailing on the original.
Regarding eyelashes, the current character model is actually pretty weird about this, with the lashes coming out from what seems to be well back from the edge of the eye, unless they deliberately put in a dark section to give the illusion of thick eyelashes covering the upper part of the eye.

Not getting this face's serious expression right is also going to mess with the characterisation of some NPCs. Zhai'a Nelhah of the BLM questline keeps coming to mind.

I also think the difference of the eye is noticable on face 4 and defines the look of the character a lot.

The panel 3 shows, that with other faces it is still the same eye shape than before. So why the difference?
I hope it'll be changed back.
