Some people think that Final Fantasy XIV exists to "dunk" on World of Warcraft like Digimon did to Pokemon and Android does to iPhone. To them, our identity as a game community comes in large part from "not being WoW", and yet that can change from day to day. It can come in such forms as:
- We might have to buy holiday gear like a F2P gacha game, but....World of Warcraft took some storyline quests out of the game! They're worse!
- We don't have content to grind...and that's a good thing! It lets you play some other game! WoW FORCES you to play!
- We're not as toxic in-game as WoW...because everything happens on Discord instead!
- Our story is WAY better...because you have to play through all 200 hours of it! Just like a single-player game!
Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. is a multi-billion dollar corporation. They pay their marketing staff a full salary, likely more than yours. No player should feel pressured to advertise for free on their behalf. It's okay to disagree with the company sometimes.
Let's just say they made one decision that was a bummer. The game isn't bad, but they did something that's a tad inconvenient. See how easy that was?

The list of cut and deleted content from WOW spans at least 30 pages. More.
yeah it sucks.
it's just doesnt feel right to use cash as a gift
Sorry, can you elaborate? If someone is just a pc player, no steam or playstation.
I can see Paypal gift cards seem to be US only and it doesn't look like you could gift anything from SE?
Edit: I've just realized you mean gift cards in general. Not gift cards for mogstation.
Send them $5 bank transfer and let them buy what they want, no problem there.
its 2022, not 1800's.
People buy gifts with real money for people they don't know personally? Lol I don't even spend Gil on strangers. A good policy in hindsight, as someone I played with for 6 months asked me to buy them an 8 mil mount (I refused) and later blew up over something totally pointless.
