What healing? I can and have run content like Aglaia without ever pressing a single GCD that wasn't my DoT or Nuke. Very riveting gameplay, let me tell you.

I currently prog ucob as whm and it really is fun.
The first part i only have to throw stones but at Neal i need to spontaneous heal more then expected due to the randomness of that phase.
And it feels great to heal everyone at the bahamut transition with only a tank LB 2 and sometimes a dead co-healer.
Healing is fun and I enjoy it in FFxiv.
This thread is an interesting read!
To be honest, I haven't tried a healer job yet; currently playing RDM - which obviously has access to Verraise and Vercure, but it seems to me that it's only really appropriate to use those (as a RDM) in situations where the actual healers are unable to do their thing.
Although I have thought about trying Sage or White Mage, the problem is I'm not keen on the idea of (for lack of a better term) being 'relied' upon like that. As an RDM it's never seems as if I'm really expected to heal - it's just an optional extra to be used when things go a bit pear-shaped in my view.
Guess I may try one of them at some point though.
Just try it.
Healer is just another DPS who uses his oGCDs for heal instead of any random DMG button.
And GCD heals are for the moments when something went wrong.
Only Tanks really rely on you and are the main target for your single heals.
Everyone else should be healed when you get yourself to full HP with group heals.
Also, the group only needs enough HP to survive the next AOE. They don't have to be at 100%HP all the time.
I like the part that people assume the healer never makes a mistake, and in some cases will just be randomly selected as a target from a boss to be eliminated for an extended duration. This is generaly while 100%hp isnt such a bad thing. Just dont overdo it. Even more on easier difficulties. Yes, in perfect requirements this doesnt hold, but most players simply dont bother with such content.
But this also goes together with relatively weak healing checks to begin with. Which is deliberately because otherwise a dead healer means an instant wipe which isnt fun for the others. I think the only way this ever can be fixed would be if other players can also revive teammates. And for balancing this, i would at least force them to stand near the corpse to do a close range cast.
Healing from my experience is generaly more fun when things arent going smooth. Otherwise it just becomes constantly the same buttons (either single target or aoe) with an occasional side attack (like a dot).
Dont be too afraid, tanks generaly have a lot of self sustain and some high resistances that can handle quite some hits, your mistakes in those cases shouldnt harm too much (unless you die very early and some heavy healing checks have to be survived). But on that, getting killed as healer is not diffirence to getting killed as a tank (which you can sometimes do by overpulling and demanding too much heals to survive - mana can be quickly drained the moment a healer fully relies on GCD heals).
