God forbid players want something unique instead of the same stuff that was in FFXI.

I would just be happy with a new class tbh.
I don't care what it is.
Not sure what the big deal is, FFXIV will have plenty of classes eventually.
Please make THF it's own unique job, not relegate it to a class. Not that it would even make that much sense to suddenly go from daggers to katana. At the very least, do something like:
Class: Rogue
Job 1: Thief
Job 2: Ninja
Taking away from another post of mine, you could do this:
Give THF a large number of unique abilities.
Give NIN a large number of unique abilities.
Give Rogue a small number of unique abilities, that are NOT equippable when switching over to the job.
Doing this will give each class and job a lot more identity than if THF and NIN use all Rogue abilities, and only have a smattering of abilities to set them apart from each other. (Random example: If, at level 50, you have 5 unique Rogue abilities, you could shove in 10 unique abilities for THF and NIN rather than just 5 - not that you couldn't shove in more abilities if you wanted to, of course.)
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Thank you. Yes Renen, that's exactly what I want. I'll admit I have no memories of Summoner from XI so I'm not trapped to that mentality.
Also Yoshi hinted that Arcanist would in fact be the first class we get with 2.0 launch, and Musketeer would come soon after. Whether or not that's still true is unknown, but there it is.
Can't fully agree, as I'd love a Samurai class but I'd hate both of the only sword wielding classes in the game being freaking tanks.
DD Samurai, please.
When it comes to Great Katanas or Katanas, that should be reserved to the far eastern art of Bushido class. Marauders don't have to be the prime class for all two-handed weapons granted that lancer also use two-hand for pole-arms and that another class.

Bushido would consist of one-handed and two-handed weapons also not short of being a Duel-wielder. Just imagine duel-wielding any weapon but resulting in either lower or higher DPS.
