Elidibus was one of my fave characters in the game ever since ARR, so I had mixed feelings about how they handled some of it, but I really enjoyed his backstory at the least, his voice acting and his last words before his eventual soul imprisonment in the tower.

If they wanted to keep NPC's dead they would have kept blondie dead.

The twins won't die, they're still children.

The others is up for debate but killing off the wrong Scion will resort in riots. Yshtola makes them a ton of money I bet.

That is, in fact, their entire purpose. They lose to us. Because we pay for that power fantasy.

WoW's problems right now all stem from the problem they've run into with being afraid to properly defeat a "popular villain." FFXIV doesn't seem to fall into that trap, thank goodness.

Not true though. Again, past final fantasy games have had antagonists win. It’s purely a 14 thing. 14 has fallen into that trap with Zenos though unfortunately. 14 has fallen into the trap of unable to kill off protagonists or give them consequences thus rendering the story constantly stale and bland. There’s little engagement and as of right now it just seems like something to inflate people’s ego’s so they can feel “powerful.”

The devs aren’t paid to appease anyone’s ego. They’re paid to create a good story. Good stories again as seen with past ff’s aka very successful games, have consequences and death. Look at ff7. Their most successful game if i recall, and it’s very iconic death.

Technically you are both wrong. They are being paid to create a product that enough people enjoy to make a profit. Even so, they are passionate about their work. I might not always agree with their story telling choices but I enjoy it enough that it keeps me interested. I really do think that they try to make a good story even if it falls flat on its face every now and then. Even so, they must be doing something right. I still want more consequences though. lol

The only scions who are ever at risk for being bumped off are the 2nd stringers that loiter around the rising stones. Yshtola dies once an expansion and the space between her "death" and "bounce back" has gotten comically shorter every time too, with SHB's being like 1 quest lol.

You said 'I hope they do all somehow die' to which I responded ultimately 'Or you know, we can not kill literally everyone'. You spoke of all, not once, but twice even, not some. I am quite fine with one or multiple deaths among the good guys, be it scions or their allies. But I think going from 'they never suffer consequences' to 'all of them die' is the opposite extreme, and also undesirable.
