Simply put, I find healers incredibly boring. Currently want to clear TEA, then go on to cancel my sub until they're fixed. IF they're fixed. I should not feel punished for playing my class well.

You nerf Astro and it immediately dies. The job was literally five times below WHM and SCH until the 5.1 changes. As someone already mentioned, it's basically being played because it's strong not for its gameplay.
With that said, people keep bringing up how badly White Mage suffered prior to Shadowbringers. A big reason for that is, frankly, FFlogs. Before the change to rDPS, all that mattered was your personal DPS. Therefore, any job without utility wasn't only weaker itself but an outright hindrance to your parse. Black Mage and Samurai suffered for the exact same reason. You straight up couldn't get a higher parse with a WHM/SCH comp. That is no longer a thing because rDPS is factored. Choosing a Samurai or White Mage over a Dragoon or Astro will not hurt you. Now that isn't to say White Mage didn't need help. It did. But the shift to rDPS played a bigger role than anything SE did.
How healers feel as someone who heals easy content and tanks hard content:

White Mage added almost nothing to a raid group that scholar or astro did not (more healing isnt "something" when you're spending an overwhelming majority of your gcd's not healing), where the other two healers provided significantly more utility.Quote:

Taking a white mage meant your overall group performance decreased. Could you do it? Sure. Was it always a worse choice if you could get a healer who was as comfortable on scholar or ast as they were on wm? Yes.
You're talking about variety of targets, we're referring to variety of buffs.
Thinking about who to use the card on is like saying choosing which mob to kill first in a pull is variety of choice.
On another note, everyone is just talking about savage and raiding. I'm talking about the general appeal of healers, you know, in solo mode, dungeons, normal trials, AST is just so tiring. WHM is like a walk in the park.
I don't like either, neither too easy nor too hard, that's why I enjoy big pulls, they are challenging but they shouldn't be straining.
Played AST in S.blood.. But switched to WHM after SE rework AST mini card game.
I kinda regret it... because preventing damage far more important than healing damage IMO.
Having BIG heal does not help when you lack ability to prevent damage.
%10 damage reduction Temperance (Lv80) nice but compared to AST Collective Unconscious (Lv58) its kinda meh :)
No, for dungeons WHM is the best at mitigation, simply because of holy. Which pretty much stops all incoming damage for a few seconds.
Maybe SCH has better shields, but AST's nocturnal cost makes it really bad the longer the battle drags. Big pulls with low DPS = no mana after a while.
I prefer Diurnal, even with no mitigation at least I don't run out of mana.
Okay holy nice.. but it doesnt help in savege :3 and in dugneon really does it matter?
I am not familiar with new savage tier but I do remember I had very hard time on e2s and e3s at pre-enrage phase if I dont have any lily available I will have hard time to deal with it.
However AST can handle it with ease (Heal check wave 1: Collective Unconscious Heal check wave 2: Earthly Star both skills instant cast and does not affect AST dps) I don't need to do any extra WHM healing I just DPS.
