I think your collar makes the set look more weird than the open chest.

I agree, a distinct look in that particular armor design would have been better. I try to avoid impractical armor for the most part, but it's tough in FFXIV (just look at the giant buster swords) Or like tank armor that's just a giant metal torso that would realistically, make you move slow & walk like a stiff stick (there'd be some kind of give around the waist & ribs for easier movement).
- there are a lot of armor piece designs that kind of make you scratch your head clearly seeing it looks better on more masculine types than female (strife outfit/ Noctis' outfit/ squalls dissidia outfit) are just 3 that come to mind--- but the same goes for feminine types as well.
There are alot of questionable designs in any MMO though-- but take a step back & look at the variety of hairstyles as well; most are short, some kind of spikey or a mullet (short on top/ long back) & it makes you wonder if any SE designers have ever looked in a hairstyle book that isn't from the 1980's or a cartoon.
That bulky level 50 armor comes to mind. Yes, Final Fantasy as a whole is kind of known for having ridiculous weapon designs, and hair. Kind of what you should know going in. Still, some of the armor and weapon designs are.... undeniably ridiculous. A lot of the hairs we have were designed by players though. Some contest.
Holy crap I just noticed those abs! LMAO how huge do your abs have to be to show such pattern on leather and chain mail overlay. Does NOT check out with with nude upper body at all, at least with Hyur Midlander. Would also mean you have somewhat fat belly with abs on top of it since the armor would suggest it's further upfront than the chest, or you have some weird malformed body. Goddamn wish you didn't point that out cause I wouldn't have noticed it lol.
I'm guessing the male version of that set was designed for Hrothgar.
PS4 limitations.
