When did I say you weren't entitled to your opinions? I was criticizing your "opinions" which I am also entitled to.

Don't worry, I actually don't care. I was just expecting more. Like an essay about how modern MMO's are streamlined, how they take the wonder out of the game, classes have no identity or have lost their identity, etc. rather than like.. pets.

I'll join in with the "wait what?" group. These are least of the troubles of modern MMOs... of which we have very few now that I think about it. Well good ones anyways.

As for the issues themselves, whatever floats your boat I guess? Pets and titles are so inconsequential in the true end game (glamours) that I doubt many people would notice or care even if they were super rare.

Not sure about leafs nowadays, but in every MMO I played it was the shiny glamours or gear that made the new players (including myself) to turn their heads.

That being said, they make sense from a marketing side. Locking whole features behind RNG and über achievements sounds good for a hardcore player, but its wholly exclusionary to the majority of the playerbase, making few of the people that care happy, while a lot more of them unhappy.

EDIT: on a more serious note though, you can pry my Great Serpent of Ronka out of my cold dead hands.

You say the MogStation is a cash grab, but not really. Try going to another game like Black Desert and tell us how it compares to the MogStation. That game is more the norm these days too in the MMO community. Even ESO is loaded with micros and loot boxes. FFXIV is really lite in comparison. The majority of MMOs fall into a few categories: P2W garbage, F2P garbage, Korean garbage, or a mix of all three.

Well cash grab obviously means something different to a lot of people.

From my POV, after playing a decade's worth of f2ps, FF14 almost feels like it's being too lazy at it. The cash grab mmos I've experienced had devs purposefully creating instances in the game or designing various content in the game to entice heavily their playerbase into buying into their cash shop just to progress. A lot of them also designed pvp around making sure that only those who had spent sufficient enough of cash in their cash shop would attain the necessary stats to compete against others who did. You also had these devs that actually went out of their way to gradually remove options in the game that provided methods of income without relying on the cash shop that some players depended on because they would not or could not spend real money on the game.

And from a cosmetic standpoint, you have game devs that play usually play it two ways: standard cosmetics and gacha/lootbox cosmetics. Gacha cosmetics are basically standard cosmetics but with better looking visuals and typically better stats but the chances of obtaining them are astronomically low, once again making it a "whoever has most money wins" type of game.

So is FF14 a cash grab? Yes but highly, highly inconsequential cash grab.

New players wouldn’t know a lot of things. I don’t think many would be hyper-focused on what each title they encounter meant. That said, simple Google searches can tell you which ones are more common and which ones are Perfect Legend-tier. If they really cared that much. Or, they could just ask the person who’s title they may be admiring.

I’ve never been asked about any title I’ve held, even the “more elite” ones. A lot of players hide things like player titles. I don’t think they care nearly as much as you do.

The same applies to this. There are plenty of minions (they aren’t called “pets” in FFXIV) that you can’t get anymore, making them more prized by serious collectors. While I personally disagree with exclusiveness for exclusiveness’ sake, these are vanity rewards. They are hardly impactful to the game itself.


I would hope your opinions about what is wrong with MMOs (or just what is wrong with FFXIV in general) would involve things like job balancing and poor design choices rather than obsessions about vanity items that have no impact on a player’s gameplay. You’re entitled to think what you wanna think, but I don’t consider any of your “problems” problems with FFXIV.

Yeah, because titles from the Ultimate Duties are things most people have, right?

Story skip potions if you wanna make an alter.

Best mounts and glams are there too.
