I should have been more clear with my first post. Useless doesn't mean pointless. Useless was meant in terms of: you get no real progression out of it. Reliving the story isn't usefull, but it gives the system a point.
So the -point- of the system is to relive the story, but the lack of any reward makes it of no -use-, gameplay wise.
So yes, lack of rewards doesn't make the system pointless because people will enjoy it for the above mentioned, if somewhat over-zealous, responses of reliving storylines.
But provides no use in terms of gameplay progression. Only pseudo character progression in the mind of the player.
