Two names are cumbersome.

Double names give more option. This way we do not get people called "name123098130912832" Or worse "dr4g0nf8t3"

Also I can see so many complications with the idea of being able to "hide" your surname. Some people have mentioned that as an option. But I don't see how this would work, Lets say Cloud Ravengaurd, Cloud Dragonheart and Cloud Frostbane are all in favour of this option and have all decided to "/hide surname" and are now all running around Uldah as "Cloud". Could be confusing from both a communication between players and a systematic standpoint, no?

Although I'd be a little sad that we'd need quotes around some peoples' names in some text commands, but people are trying to move away from text commands. Also, a max of three spaces per name, and cannot have 2+ in a row.

Yoshi already said that with letting us change stuff in 2.0 they may remove our last names...I really hope this doesn't happen, though...I love having my last name and being linked to my family that plays with me :3

This, the roleplaying aspect of Final Fantasy seems intact with a surname as well as a first name.. y'know? All fancy and what not.


... But in all seriousness it provokes a lot more originality in the names and thinking about a surname doesn't require that much effort, really?

I love the surname, it's just one of those things that makes FFXIV..... FFXIV. It's not something that most other games have, I don't mind typing that extra name to add someone to a party, it really doesn't take that much extra time.

It also allows for familys/couples to play with the same last name which is a cool feature, I know my LS has a married couple in it that share the last name :)

I also know that Yoshi has expressed possibilites of Roleplay in 2.0 possible RP servers? Having the surname would really add to this experience as well.

Not to mention there's always the whole oh hey... someone has that name... crap, next! oh.... that ones taken too....dang... that you don't really see much on here because with the name combo the chances of you picking the same exact name as someone else isn't likely.

You only need 1 character to experience everything the game has to offer... Is your brain cells so shot that coming up with a full name, probably once in the games life span, has you sweating bullets?

Guess what? If you can't think of a last name use the one you were born with. I know you would have never thought of that but this is a helpful community after all.
