If they are higher on the aggro list than me, they get my comm.
High aggro doesn't mean high DPS. One point of being a good DPS means aggro management to make it easier for the tank to be in DPS stance.
I comment a DPS if:
he/she
- uses Goat/TP Song/Mana song without the need to remind them
- does AE when it's needed
- helps raising
- uses their abilitys (for example BRD songs, DMG Buffs)
I always comm the other dps unless they are just bad.
smns who don't dot or bane, brds who don't use songs, ice mages or mages that have no concept of their rotation after about lvl 50, mnks/drgs who still single target on humungous pack pulls, nins with no ninjustsu or the dps who spend half their time in auto-attack only mode, yeah I see you lol. Sometimes its obvious as well when a tank or healer is duoboxing, no ones getting a comm then.
I have a few conditions for comms.
Do they say hello?
Are they friendly?
Are they doing a good job?
I usually try to give a comm to a dps over a healer or tank just because I know they get them much more rarely, but if the dps doesn't check any of those and a tank or healer does, the tank or heal will get it.
Fully aware, I'm just simple and not pretending that I see everything that another dps is doing at all times :D
To me, this is still a viable indication that unless they steal aggro from the tank, they're doing alright.
Truth be told, I play in a group of 3 or 4 most of the time and the spare person gets the commendation, whatever role they are, provided they didn't mess up.
Most of mine go to healer or tank unless I notice they are screwing up bad or just pissing me off.
I tend to notice Dragoons I don't have to heal a lot, and tend to give them the most commendations out of all the DPS I see. Especially when I notice they're getting the rotation right.
If the healer or tank are pissing me off but the DPS did fine, they get a commend.
I don't really give my comms based on job role. Maybe when I tank, since I put a lot of pressure on my healers I do tend to give it to them. It typically goes to whoever is not a robot in there. If you don't say hi at the beginning of the instance, you're pretty much eliminated for consideration right then and there. That's not to be an ass or anything, it just makes it easier for me to choose because most of time players do what they're supposed to do in dungeons.
I admittedly give a lot of pity comms though, especially in content where you are expected to fail mechanics if it's your first go. I just can't help but feel bad for the player that is really trying, but still gets one-shotted by something.
In short, my comm goes to the player I feel is the nicest one in the group.
