FFXIV already has better character customization than Warcraft

Of all the games I've actually played, Phantasy Star Online 2 by far had the most robust character creator and is F2P, though region-locked (But easily bypassable).

You're pretty much guaranteed to be able make the exact sort of face you'd want, and while the body options aren't as robust, they're still unlikely to disappoint, being able to alter limb length/width, muscle tone, and weight to get a build that should be fairly close to what one wants.

Eve actually set the bar on this one, BDO came later. Oh the sweet irony.

i cant belive ppl buy the server limit excuse if it has such a low limit upgrade your servers seriously

I was also going to say Black Desert but someone already has.
Tera has ok customization from what i can recall, and Blade & Soul perhaps? Other then that i do not recall at least online games for customization.

Because there are people who actually know how expensive and how much of a pain in the butt it is to put a new server together in a large room filled with other servers? All it takes is for one thing to go wrong and most of the time, there's no handy dandy way or manual to tell you where you screwed up. Servers installations are just prone towards having random hang-ups because something was either corrupted in the process, something didn't install correctly, things didn't transfer over correctly the way that they should, etc. It's massively stress-inducing.

You can't just simply take the old server out and pop a new one back in like a battery. The game won't magically still be going in the meantime as that happens.

These may not be the best examples, but they are pulling various facial features from all the faces in the race.

While I do enjoy really expansive character creators, it can also be a bit overwhelming to me as you have SO many options for what you can do.....and I want far too many! lol

I don't think they can just do that, because (I assume) the faces fit together like jigsaw puzzles, and each face element would be designed to slot into that particular face shape.

If you wanted them all to be interchangeable, I think the faces themselves would have to be a lot more uniform in their shape and proportions.


It would also be about the amount of data involved. Right now it only needs to store your choice out of 6 options. If you could access every element, that would be 24 options, times however many face settings there are.

It will always be the glamour toilet to me!

Personally, I find that the FFXIV character look and feel appeals to me more than most other MMOs, even those with a gazillion sliders.

The main reason - emotion. When I laugh, my body and face move like I'm laughing. The eyes make things more lively. I don't have a dead stare in every cut scene.
