Well as they say, if hindsight was 20/20...
You have my condolences. Sadly you learned the hard way that humans cannot be trusted. None of them can. Not your friends, your family, your loved ones, no one. At the end of the day, we all look out for #1. The difference between us all is the varying amount of restraint, honor, and morals we have. Sadly your "friend" had none of the above.
According to SE, they will be opening up more housing wards in every area, so you may have to wait until then to relocate back to Shirogane. The gil he stole sucks, but you can recoup those losses with time. The real travesty is that it sounds like he got away with it scotch free. I hate it when justice isn't served for such people. But at this point, he's out of your life. Try not to dwell too much on it. Pick up your teeth off the ground, go see a dentist, and move on.
As someone who has watched my last FC get burnt at the steak by a supposed "best friend" situation, I refused to trust anyone but myself when it came to Shirogane. Even against my own bf.
I bought 2 plots, one of them being for the FC I made just days before 4.1 launch after previously mentioned FC fell apart because of that idiotic guild leader trusting too much in a toxic friend. Me? I'm happy not trusting a soul with spending company Gil because at least then I know for a fact where the spending is going.
I can see how your intentions were pure, OPer...But all in all, you should of removed his rank right after he got you that plot. Plain and simple. But, again, I see where you're coming from...
TL;DR: Trust no one.
Square Enix won't give a shit because in situations like this there really isn't anything they can do about it. It's not their faults. It was a mistake purely on your part that humans won't be humans and stab each other in the backs.
To add to the above post (since character limits are a thing), there's someone I met on Gilga during my Shinryu farms that said how just days before 4.1 or so this girl they trusted destroyed their house, their items and took EVERYTHING from them before booking it. And of course SE did nothing because, again, it was their fault for trusting them.
It happens very often and it's very sad...
While indeed it can be prevented, I think it's odd to be for a blame-the-victim policy. Especially when the entire FC can be considered victims of the thief and the mistakes of the leader. People should be able to be held accountable for stealing, whether it can be prevented or not.
It's not stealing though. Giving someone the permission is effectively telling them they can do it, and so they did. It was morally bankrupt and the person who did it is a disgusting piece of filth with no conscience, but the GMs can't police every single bad decision the players make.
Man OP, That blows. Sucks that being so trusting can be met with such utter disrespect, but this is a game and peoples moral compass WILL go out the window. As others have said, DO NOT giver permissions to people you haven't known for at least a couple of years. I have RL friends that I have as tenants in my Shiro house. They wanna place something? sure. As soon as its done, permissions gone. No hard feelings, but I don't feel like getting bent over. Im new to my FC. I do not expect to get permissions to ANYTHING until years have past....if that. As it should be.
I'm still amazed by how many people still trust nobodies found on the Internet. Your case is same as giving Gil permissions to someone and then complain s/he got them all. Oh wait, he did it too...
Did you have a written agreement (in game chat) of what were the conditions for you giving them those rights? If so, have you forwarded those logs to the GMs?
Hm..whats interesting is that some get the gil back that were taken out of the company chest and some not. Maybe its very situational how SE decides.
