Don't we already have something similar to that? Remember in Darkhold you have to run to those glowing stuff to put them out. For open world, you can take a look at the beastmen gates. (although I'm not really quite sure what makes those open)
I think they should add more of this in instances, but it has to be a practical application. Such as if they want the party to strategically split up, or gather together. If it is just thrown in with no real purpose besides just opening a door (which was most of the time for FFXI), then all it does is serve as an asinine requirement. E.G. Garliage's Banishing Gates, you need people to help you open them, but you don't need them to help you otherwise.
About those doors, I really hated them. I rather not have them be forced upon us but instead placed strategically like in a puzzle. Example; walking on tiles on the floor in a certain order or turning a statue/or statues in a certain direction.
I support instanced and non-instanced; for example (using these areas for reference, not saying we need exact copies) instanced areas for groups like Dynamis, Limbus and Salvage, and non-instanced for groups or individuals like those areas mentioned by the OP.
In regards to doors/triggers, I think they'd be great additions as a means to explore high-end portions of a particular area, to get to a particular H/NM, or when searching for quested/jse gear, as opposed to simply accessing more of the generalized areas within the dungeon.
I support this definitely.
