FFXIV Only - Low Benchmark Score and Low FPS on decent settings. Puzzled.

Basicly a better cpu will boost yr fps in city and crowded areas but its not needed since investing in a cpu for an old socket aint smart unless you can get one real cheap. i recomend you get a better video card nothing too expensive but something that is on pair with that cpu a 5750/6750 is fine anything else is overkill for the rest of the setup.

Thank you. Our processors are almost identical, you have half the ram and you're getting great performance. I just wanted to note my CPU Socket type is an Intel 478 socket in a G41 Family Chipset mobo. I always thought my general setup was fine, and I knew I was settling for less when I got the GPU. I'm also gonna need to up the PSU to maybe 500-600W from 400W, which contributed to settling for a subpar GPU.

EDIT: What PSU wattage do you have by chance?

That was my mistake on the verbage. It's ddr, double data rate, so it will double if you have the confiraution proper, otherwise it will be single speed.

Necessity to upgrade the gpu? No. However if you are going to upgrade one, between the cpu and the gpu, the gpu will make a difference, where-as the cpu will not until you upgrade the gpu. So I would upgrade the gpu now, and maybe down hte line upgrade hte cpu if you want to push it further. To get playing on medium settings at a high resolution, you need to upgrade your gpu. To go farther than that to high settings, you'll need to upgrade your cpu as well, but don't just upgrade your cpu, it will not show you a perfomrance increase as you are configured.

I also thank this thread for giving me a strange sense of dangerous ambition.

Although when I consider what it would take to upgrade to mostly play one game extra comfortably, I realize I might rather buy a PS3 with a load of games I would like to catch up on instead.

edit: Mayhaps a slightly buffer power supply (600 watts) and depending on investment, a moderate modern graphics card.

Skip backstory:

I think it takes one of these types of games to slap me in the face with its Wabbajack to make me want to get/build a better machine.

WoW launch: PIII 600 MHz, 128 MB of ram, onboard graphics card. Staring at walls, staying away from Ironforge, loving unpopulated areas (which was nowhere at the time) lest my experience stutter.
Dungeons and Dragons Online: Roomie "Can you help me solve this puzzle on the floor?"
*looking at the floor* "There's no puzzle here."
*looks over on roomie's screen and sees an elaborate canal puzzle requiring the rotation of many tiles*
me "Oh my gawd, I need to upgrade."

The next three face slappers were Vanguard (decent, but expensive GPU splurge for two player action), the Last Remnant PC (first time building a PC, smashed my finger on a fan, feels good feel sgreat, moderate~heavy splurge, but not insane), and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (stupid desert, I hate you!!! defective GPU splurge).

And at last Final Fantasy 14 to be able to run on two machines instead of just mine... (breaks the GPU in half (defective exchange two years later) to make two equally powered and WORKING GPUs).

*bites on a 7600 GT and bakes a 9800 GTX in the oven, foams at the mouth*

Ram speed is the same for all sticks.

If its 533 for one, its 533 for all.

The bus speed is constant no matter how many sticks are in the machine.

Your CPU is Socket LGA775 not 478(old pentium socket).
Whats your amperage on the 12v line? check sticker on the PSU.
That 400w PSU should be fine for a 5750/6670

CPU 65w max > 5.5A
MB (includes one SATA HDD/DVD-RW USB devices and CPU cooler fan) 50w~ > 4.2A
5750 86w(gaming) > 7.2A
6670 66w(gaming) 92w(furmark burn) > 5.5A/7.7A
5570 42.7w(max power draw) > 3.6A

not 100% acc but can give you an idea.

Also notice the 5750 requires a 6pin pci-e power connector while the 6670 and 5570 dont.

I think it's kinda fishy imo because FFXIV seems to have an unneeded 'choppiness' to it and what not. Server latency causes the UI to lag and the loading of NPCs / characters take a while to pop up while the surroundings are just fine. I know my GPU isn't state of the art as it's based on entry level technology within the 6 series, but boy has it got the job done across a broad spectrum of 2009-2011 games. Any ideas?

you know thats a 35$s video card dont you............. its outdated big time get a 100-200$ card and you wont have these problems. The 6850 is your best bet at around 130-180$s depending on the manufacturer. You also need a higher powered PC power supply most likely one that has a seperate 6 prong connection solely for graphics cards. My guess is you bought a Cyberpower/Ibuypower PC and wherent well enough informed on exactly what you where getting; they sell u PCs that look good in writing but in truth u can build a PC much cheaper and better yourself always.
and the dual core processor has nothing to do w/ it this game only uses one and its more than enough.
