Or maybe they're fed up with people "abusing" the reclaim feature (it was supposed to be only to compensate players who lost their house, not for players to use to get a percentage of their money back just by waiting it out).

Of course naturally if I wanted to get rid of a house I'd also want to get some money back so I'd wait it out too instead of just relinquishing it, but that wasn't what SE wanted.

Maybe they're trying to come up with a way for "you only get the compensation fee back if you also haven't logged in for 45 days" or something like but in a way that stops people from actually unsubscribing...

Or maybe they just really do think more time is needed because of the earthquake.

I have been waiting and waiting to free up my plot so I can bloody move servers, stop forcing us into this system and give us a choice to opt out so we can bloody relinquish our land for the 80% already and let someone else have it!

I'm so annoyed right now, mostly because they never seem to learn... surely someone in the dev team would have thought 'oh lets give them a button to turn auto relinquish back on since we have not provided a system in which players can otherwise make their unwanted plots available for the modest refund or easily sell it on MB/to other players without fear of scam/gouging'

If it is an automated system, why would earthquakes be cause for turning it off? Or is this to protect players affected by earthquakes from losing house?

Its to protect them because they dont have power etc. Which is really nice of SE.

What isn't nice however, is forcing the rest of the player base into it as well. Which lets face it, is really encouraging people to try sell thier plots for lucrative amounts of gil (The buyers point of view) simply so they can free up the plot.

Almost feels like they are making criminals then punishing them (._.)

Pretty sure it started out as that, but my guess is that it has since morphed into a reworking of the system which might still be under development. If it was just a case of waiting a period to support victims of the earthquake it probably would have been switched back on before now or at least other regional servers would have been, they probably took it as an opportunity to work on improving the system while not in use.

But that doesn't make sense. Spending gil on a plot was YOUR choice, there's no reason to get 80% of your gil just because you don't want to have a house anymore.

Well, it makes sense to buy and sell houses actually. And it makes sense to use a system that is in place.
What doesnt make sense is not making a complete system. So we work with what we have.

True I can choose to give up the gil as a loss, but some people have paid say, 200million for a plot that can now be bought for 20 million on some servers (A large) if you were that person, would you ever in your right mind not try for your refund?

Its not just a case of 'you chose to pay' its more like 'you chose to use a system, one that's changed'

SE allowing you to recoup any of your gil is a generous thing, reclamation is a bit like failed crafts sometimes giving you your materials back. Housing is a very limited and highly desired thing which is handled by the SE dictating plot values and not allowing the reselling of them privately.

Both were designed in the way they were to stop people treating housing as a commodity and/or profiting from it. Make no gil if chose to leave, make only some back but not all of it if lose your home not by choice...the punishing people who privately sell too also enforces the idea they do not want you treating it as a commodity. Obviously people are abusing that system to make a portion of the gil back by choice though but that was not it's intended purpose.
