Insults aside, collision detection can be done right in the way that player to player collision is disabled in cities and other non battle areas and have player to monster collision always enabled. If I remember right, FFXIV at launch had the exact same collision detection that FFXI used when I still played that game, you could pass through players and monsters after a short while thus the issue of creating human walls never arose.
I really understand the argument of other players stopping you on purpose but: EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE IS THE SIZE OF A FOOTBALL FIELD!!
..ahem what I'm trying to hint here is that it's never an issue in this game. And even in XI it never stopped you it just hindered you. Nothing is as black and white as forums would have you believe.
This is not even a gameplay thing but what I find really depressing is those fences that you can walk through.
To me it always feels like I'm playing a cheap indie game and especially knowing that they used to work is disheartening.
They could have just tweaked the shape of collision box so that it doesn't stop you but bumps you to the side but they went with the "not improving-cutting off" route that just shows lack of ambition.
Btw collision models are incredibly lo-poly and super easy to edit. But I guess they didn't want to risk it since they don't have a test server or unstuck button for these things.
Bring it.. back damnit.
And I thought I was the only one. lol
What's wrong with walking against someone and after maybe 2 sec you can pass through? It would give people an incentive to not run through each other. I still run past people when I'm on my chocobo, not through them. It just doesn't feel right.
