Ok listen. I've been a professional game developer for a decade, and there were many rational justifications in the storytelling for this. I personally thought it was very well done.

Funny you can't quote me saying you should have fought or that retaliation is good and you had to pull that one out of your ass. my argument is you should have been given an option or be acknowledged as a powerful piece of this story and not background decoration that needs protecting by your dying friends. or at the very least show some interest in helping the cause.
Do you? I dont know why this stupid argument keeps getting used. If you had fought back from the start then a lot less people would have died. And you wouldnt have Ul'dah being seized and a potential enemy state.
''But the consequences!'' Is an oft used excuse by those afraid to act. Every single action has consequences. And doing nothing is also an action. With consequences, as we've seen in the cutscenes.
Yes, especially given the fact that all of the scions (well, not poor Thancred) and all three of the Grand Company leaders were in the room with me..?
And yes, I know full-well the 'implications' of me taking action. I don't think you do.. you just have this idea of what might happen.
Besides, my first action would have been to cast freaking ESUNA onNanamo.
There were "many rational justifications" to completely removing all player agency in these scenes, instead of writing them in ways that could have had the exact same effect but without leaving us feeling frustrated and useless? Please, do enlighten us.
Because a city full of Brass Blades, Crystal Braves, confused Sultansworn, and confused Immortal Flames would make mincemeat out of you.
Try doing Praetorium solo to see what it would be like.
Thancred, Garlean traitor that he is, defeated/killed the brass blades out to snag him, the chamber of rule was awash in magic and beat downs. by your logic, we would have been mincemeat by half the city anyway.
We still need to clear our names regardless, resisting arrest isn't even that hard for the blades to fake, given that we fled during the chaos.
And The Sultansworn are and remain oblivious to Nanamo's death even after the chaos and deaths broke out.
Including choice in how our characters treat the initial situation and saying something to the scions isn't insurmountable and could've been setup with a few more moments.
You're right, we possibly could have fought our way through and killed half the city. But killing half the city isn't exactly going to clear your name, given that not every Brass Blade and Crystal Brave was a traitor, a lot of innocent people would have been killed in the slaughter, making it so much easier for the Syndicate to put the blame off you. The Blades and Braves would have told the Sultansworn if things did end up going to pot and the warrior of light went on a rampage.
Reminded me of when Yuna and co "killed" Seymour and were labeled murderers.
I'm not saying we kill half the city, I'm saying your argument suggesting that half the city would be after us would've happened the way things had played out in the cut scene. Accused Scions attending a party held by the Sultana were already drawing steel and resisting arrest.
What I'm arguing is for some involvement with the scene. how do we get arrested? What do we say to the scions when they decide to buy us time?
