Astrologian Speculations! How will it fit in?

If astrologian was a bit more support type healer I'd imagine something like this:

Combination of two healing moves (yes, a healer with a combo) open up third part that either help whm or sch by increasing healing power or shield capabilities (also if drk is shields/draining this would be a big help) by choosing a finisher that fits best.
This would give a long buff for whm or sch to do their job better yet it has to be refreshed.

An Astrologian's time in encounter is filled by choosing cards that gives melee short buffs, ranged damage short buffs and tank buffs either buffing them or buffing their buffs. Healing is done by hots and they can be ended whenever to give a big heal. "Time" is a big save move that slows/stops time for few seconds.

The Astrologian I'm thinking is kind of master of buffing/debuffing so she/he can also do aoe dispell and absorb debuffs to gain mana and tp for the whole party.

Dps astrologian does by choosing to play card of death. A casted heavy hitting spell that leaves a debuff that can be twisted to confuse/disorient/blind/selfcombust/brainjack however the master of buffs chooses to.

I would love for astrologian to sort of use cards like they did in ogre battle. With a summons type card for heals and debuffs. Pearl wind heal is my absolute favorite spell in ff lore.

I notice a lot of people are talking about an RNG draw function when it comes to the cards, however I personally can't see this being a thing for the following reasons. Look at the screenshot with the cards:

- All of the card faces can be seen by the Astrologian
- They are blank.

So with these two pieces of information I would like to propose that the cards are little more than a physical conduit for spells to be cast on in the same way a SMN/SCH writes in their book. You could think of it like this: (continued in next post as couldn't fit both sections in even after trimming the fat.)

The star globe is used to gather information from the cosmos and the cards are what give that information physical form. With that in mind you might see some kind of system where the starglobe is used to charge something up and then a card is used to release it e.g. A chargeable heal that has a maximum and minimum cast time and can be reactivated at various points of the cast to use the heal at its current charge and the mp cost would also reflect the charge amount. This kind of function would make for an effective situational healer that can be mp efficient with one single target and one AOE heal while leaving more room for support/dps based spells. Traits could give you access to additional charge times for higher potency which would give the heals a sense of progression and not make you OP to start with and a charge function also gives the astrologian a stat priority difference to the other two healers... Spellspeed!

Continuing with my speculations here is some more food for thought...

The Starglobe is of course a main hand weapon, but the deck of cards could quite possibly be an offhand equip! I think this is reasonable to assume as the two go hand in hand (pun intended.)

I'd love it if they implemented something like bio-capacitor from DCUO. I'd call it cosmic burst (blessing) an aoe heal that heals for a decent amount (less than succor and medica) but the trick is that it places a charge on everyone within radius and that should hp fall to zero it will instantly trigger the charge healing ones with charge back up to say... 15-20% thus giving you (or if in raid 2nd healer) time to top off everyone. Trust me it sounds op or like INVULNERABILITY but the skill works wonders and never op's. Also something like divine light fromDCUO celestial which

Places glyphs on random players that HOT for a few seconds if you close to it. I mean I could go on and on. :) so excited to see what's instore for us to hurry and master.

I see people hoping for an RNG mechanic with the cards and stuff, personally I feel while it may be fun it would make the class not very useful because they rely on RNG instead of skill and gear. I assume the Cards would actually just be a visual aspect of the Job instead of anything actually useful. When you cast spells you typically see the element whirl around you when you're using it, I imagine as the AST the cards would swirl around you when using it's special abilties.

I also imagine it'll be a HoT Healer. It'll have a low potency heal, and a HoT single target, and I think it'd be cool if the low potency heal actually got stronger if used on someone who has the HoT, and then for it's AoE Healing I dont want it to be like Medica and Succor where it heals from around me, I want it to be a placed heal that repeatedly heals over time anyone who's in the circle of 14 seconds or whatever. For the Cooldowns, I want an Arise type effect that if the person dies with the buff on they get back up at full health. The buff only lasts like, 6 seconds or something though. I also imagine them getting Haste as a Party Cooldown to increase Attack Speed, Spell and Skill speed and probably movement speed for like 30 seconds. For a MP Regen, I would like to see like a channel to give you MP, and maybe they'll have a brief CD they can use on an ally to give them MP Regen as well, but not on themselves. Like an MP Goad.

For its damage abilities, I think they'll take on a Gravity aspect. So we'll be smacking them with Gravity for some damage as well as Heavy, and then Gravity II would be an AoE version of it, and if they get a CC Ability I imagine it'll be Stop. Basically from the looks of it, I see them as a fancy Time Mage that heals by slowly rewinding time, and preventing death.

Also there would be the case that healers rely on consistency to be able to do their job properly as well. Could you imagine a healer where some of their important moves relied on RNG on wether they could use them or not? It would make end game raid a nightmare. So yeah, agree with you here :).
