Don't pull out the "it's not possible" etc.etc. card.
Look at games like The Witcher. In that game all NPCs move around, leave their houses, work outside during daytime, eat lunch, breakfast and supper, wash their laundry, hide unter a roof when it starts to rain, chat with each other in the streets, flee from monsters or band up to drive them out, go to sleep in their houses at night...
...and the complete game, from start to finish, is fully, completely 100% covered by (excellent) voice-acting in English, German, French, Russian, Polish, Spanish and Rumanian. Produced by a small-scale independent studio (at the time).
So don't excuse SE's lazyness. They had by faaaaar more resources and did by faaaaar a worse job. Cities are a SHAME. Even when compared to FFXIV.

I completely agree. at this point ,they could have shifted current developers on other projects as well as hiring more developers to get more stuff done better and quicker (Development emergency catchup plan).. changes are coming in too slow for a game that should have been 50 times better then it already is. Releases twice a month are useless if all its gonna be is little fixes.... release something real... No more little miss events either please.
Current FFXIV NPCs are just emtpy cells.. they just stand there and do nothing unless engaged with.. this game is a sorry excuse for a "today's MMOs". I like Final Fantasy games so I'm trying my hardest to not give up but if this game doesn't pick up by the time they start charging a monthly fee, I'm ditching it, I'm not wasting anymore money for this louzy joke of a game. Laziness IS the word to describe SE on FFXIV at this point! I'll go back to FFXI, hit lvl 99 and finish the rest of the game XD. Then after that I'll go back to the old tried and true FF games who's replay value is currently 1million times better then this games first time play value.
Sorry for the rant, I blame Rinsui for getting me started :D.

Heck, they did it with Zelda Majora's Mask 11 years ago...

I don't mind the amount of time it's taking..well, let me rephrase that. I'm being EXTREMELY patient. I would rather them take time and fix the game the right way rather than have half-assed updates every week for a year. Kind of like how every Version Update (most anyway) of FFXI was usually pretty awesome, but they only did 3 per year. I'm kind of looking at this the same way.
-
Yes please :X This is a huge part of other Final Fantasies.
I was just playing FFXII today and walking around in the shops of Rabanastre...it reminded me of Ul'dah except it didn't feel like the plague hit it and all the color got stolen :X
-
Yeah Ul'Dah reminds me a lot of Rabanastre, just kinda half-done. If I could get an MMO version of that city I'd be way more interested in it lol
-
Shameless bump. I'd like some sort of reply on whether or not this is planned at all in the future. Or at least have it forwarded to Yoshida.

Uldah is definitely really bland
heres an honest question to those who might know.
i personally have found every Final Fantasy series to have a very well designed and decorated aesthetic, however, both FFXI and FFXIV have some of the worst looking weapons, gear, environments, and even summons (minus XIV obviously) look absolutely colorless and just..... less than every other FF in the series.
so Q: WHY?
is it just because these particular developers have that type of look in mind and think its literally on par with the look of all their other games? i just never understood it thats why i became the second most advanced .dat modder FFXI ever saw, who else do you know that can modify the hex. of the dat files to make your own spell casting animations?

I enjoyed the summons in XI, I think they were pretty good looking. However, with XI's gear, for a long time I was rather underwhelmed by the style. You could buy a level 10 Great Sword and have a level 70 sword with the exact same style and color. And unfortunately this happened more than once. I'm starting to like the new gear they've been releasing in FFXIV with the release of the NMs, so with that I'm curious as to what the dungeon gear is going to be like.

I also like the summons in FFXI, they were on par with the previous titles summons, unlike those ugly weird transformer summons they gave in FFXIII.
