It'd seem weird. Yoshi specifically pushed for male Miqo'te and female Roes back when ARR was in development as well as gave the go-ahead for male Viera in the concept art.
That'd be something odd to go back on.

I want the Tactics Viera most of all (I know most want the 12 version).

I'd also ADORE a birdlike race, remember the *Yagudo from XI? Obviously it would have to be different than those, but something actually beast-like rather than the cat ears from Miqo or the scales from Au Ra.

I also agree the second linked art is a little cutesy, not really looking for something like a Lala but the lithe variant we saw originally. Also, the moogles in 12/Tactics were awesome.

Do you mean the Yagudo? I'd rather the Vanu Vanu over them, honestly (while I also like Yagudo, their body and legs are... weird).

However, I'm starting to think viera might be gender locked. The leaks showed a rabbit and a lion, no? I really hope this isn't the case though.

Personally really want something just different, but as I've seen their process with Au Ra and of course we have the other races.. I have a feeling that's just never going to happen and they'll all be more similar than dissimilar (which I understand why, but still - will wish in one hand and drop kupo nuts in the other).

So I've resigned that I'll never find something I like more than a Highlander*, and just thought that the Viera fans have been pretty steady. I thought that would mean something, consistency is good.

If they ever decide to go over the current races I'd love if they added "wild" options to the races we have available. More cat Mi'qote (like FFXI), Au Ra more beast than currently, Highlander who didn't learn about shaving their eyebrows.. you know the real wild stuff. :P

Those women! That's exactly what I was hoping for in this game, a giant female beast race. I've had a Roe since PS3 release; that doesn't do it. I was psyched when the Au Ra came, I saw the Male (creator defaults to male) and when I switched it to female I got out of my seat and threw a fit. How terribly disappointing! I heard about this 'concept art' but haven't seen it until now! URGH I want it so bad! Sorry if I posted twice in a row, I'm just replying as I go through the thread.

Gender locked races are dumb. It's why I suggested a second clan could be the Ronso/lion race. How it works, who knows.

Their Au Ra concept art is indeed /amazing/. I'd have raced changed already if it looked like that, easily. It's why I hope sometime they make a third clan on races. I'd even be for them making a third clan to races every few patches so it's not too stressful on them (rather than all at once on an expansion). Like every 3 patches one race get's a third weirder take on the race "clan" (Roe get Galka tail for example?). Introducing them visually I think wouldn't be too bad, introducing them with grandeur through the lore (giving them all purpose in the world).. that'd probably be really tough.

The semi dangerous succubus look of the females was definitely really nice, imo the current Au Ra females are a bit glassy eyed. Like if you talk too fast they might get confused :p. But I'm part of the derplander/Hildibrand group so.. What do I know lol.

I know they said it's hard to have these weird beasts due clipping issues but SE doesn't really seem to be "too" worried about clipping. With the glamour system improving imo.. they should give themselves more freedom on race designs.

If Lupin, Ronso or anything like them don't become playable, I'd love this. Especially if (for males) facial hair is their default look (since Galka always have facial hair) and cannot be removed.

I just don't understand why they would make it gender locked. Especially if they make a second gender locked male race like the leaks suggest. All this would tell me is the devs really hate the idea of male Viera.

I would dislike viera being gender locked, too. They could be saving male viera for the next fanfest. At this point, who knows.

They did the same with the Male Cat Race, i just hope it doesnt take that long to add it too.

Indeed, so happy that they finally released them. What I won't be happy is if they're only half a deal. I really hope this isn't true and not the case at all. I have little respect for gender locked races in MMOs. Less still if a developer reverts a gender-lock only to slap them back on, and then creates another male only for the sole purpose that they didn't want a male of the other race.

I think the majority would be happy if they do with viera what they did with hyur and have 2 noticeably different clans, rather than recolors of each other. That way people can chose between tall and sexy or short and cute.

(I, for one, do not want short and cute)

small anthro bunny people with large ears and fluffy tails, and they have fur with a wide colour range, it would be awesome they could use the humming way

but since they probs won't give us lupin and i imagine this hrothgar to be basically just a roe with cat parts slapped on i aint holding out much hope.

So this thread is to blame for people whining about Viera being gender locked? Did you not know the lore behind the race you begged to be added? They were female only from the very beginning so why would you beg for them to be added then whine about Yoshida staying true to their origins and making them female locked? It makes no sense. It is beyond ridiculous that people beg for something without knowing the lore behind it then get psychotic and spam him with death threats when he adds them and stays true to their original lore.

Male Miqo'te also weren't a thing in XI or XIV 1.0 due to lore reasons. I guess we should be happy that sometimes SE just makes things work, eh?

I do kinda find it funny to think of people requesting a race that's been female only in all the games they appear in with the expectation that they would get a male they like out of it.

Like, if you're and Viera fan you are a fan of female rabbit people ... That's what you got. You have examples of how they look in the games and you know what to expect.

Just looking at the male topic shows how much of this is just people wanting their personal vision to come true. Be it the ones who want beefy dudes or the creepy shota boy fans or the ones who want female looking males or those who want them to be shorter than the females and so on and so on. Its all just a few people debating over head canon cause they don't show up in the games once. This is not the case with HROTHGAR seeing how thr closest looking thing to them are ronso which have a confirmed female look.

The guy who made FF12 supports the idea of male Viera, and male Viera, while not seen, do exist. They are more territorial over land and food sources, so they live separately. I'd imagine males in that cannon who couldn't get a territory of their own would probably leave and adventure to find their own territory, which sounds similar to Sun Seeker males leaving to adventure to get stronger so they can be a nunhe one day. I personally wouldn't play a male Viera, but it would have been cool to see FF14s take on it.
What is worrying me is that all Viera seen so far in FF14, excluding Fran, have the exact same ear tuffs. I want diversity in ears, dammit! There's diversity in Miqo'te tails, please let Viera have some ear diversity.

What really make no sense is no female Hrothgar, they are based on Ronso that had females everywhere, seems like a cop-out.

Ya... Lore is not the reason we have locks this turn around. This turn around its well they wanted to give us two races instead of one and couldn't finish a full set of each. So they went with a male on one side and female on the others. With potential of completing them at a later undisclosed time.

Though I swear, this forum finally got peaceful. Why did you want to stir things up again!

Did I beg for it to happen though? No I did not. Did I send death threats to Yoshida? No, I did not. Those getting upset about Viera are doing both those things. There is also the fact that Viera have been female only since the GBA age, a lot longer than a single game that got messed up so badly that it was retconned all the way back to it's beginning.
