The leaker pointed people to their icon when asked what the new race(s) would be. Their icon was rabbit and lion.
Also, I'd be extremely disappointed if the 'second race' went toward Viera. One is enough; just go the FFXII or FFTA route :/

Was being discussed in Eureka shout last night what the 2 races of Viera might look like. I'd think of it as the difference between Roger Rabbit and Jessica Rabbit. One form a short swift, agile creature; females being slim, and fit, short with slight height advantage over males ranging between tallest Lalafel and Mid height miqo female, males being also slim, muscular and short just slightly shorter than their female counter. The other tall, graceful, much slower, and more physical, female being on par physically with your average supermodel or female Highlander, males being closer in stature to Roes in physical presence. One caste suited to rogueish professions, the other suited to heavier combat.
To be quite honest, I can speak for myself, and dont need folks to put words in my mouth. I could care less if they look like Fran but Im being realistic here. Chances are we only got Viera at all and so quickly because SE already has the assets for them from XII. Its not much more of a stretch to use those assets to create or tweak models for XIV. Atleast that would be my assumption. As for Au'Ra, it was probably in the works from the beginning of 2.0 since before the game's relaunch they had done a survey asking what races folks would like to see and a dragon race (Au'Ra) was pretty popular among the poll. It just happened to be the one they went with first. Viera was actually at the top of the poll back then too and with the April fool's bangaa joke being such a cruel disappointment for many fans, I can see why they chose to get to work on it.
But in truth, NO ONE, not I or any other player will truly know what they look like until they either leak or are officially shown off. My opinion is nothing more than speculation as is yours, or anyone else's.
No one was putting words in your mouth. Stop getting ultra defensive over something you're hyping up to be based on your own desires when nothing is set in stone yet. Not all words are meant to hurt you and if you can't take criticism towards over what you're posting on a public forum, then maybe not say it at all? Or at least, don't immediately be spiteful towards others about it. I'm glad you can speak for yourself, so can I. If you don't like what I said, then you are free to ignore it as everyone else has done so far. Chill out. :)
If you could care less that they look like Fran or not, then why are you telling people to save their griping in the first place? You can't have it both ways. Furthermore, pulling assets from a single player game which runs on an entirely different game engine and coding is a stretch actually. They can't just pull the in-game models from XII and simply copy paste them into XIV like an editing software while only making a few minor adjustments towards the mesh models. They are going to have to recreate the in-game Viera models from scratch while loosely basing them off of Fran's outward appearance at the very least. However, Fran's armor never really changed in appearance throughout XII so, they are going to have to model them to at least move and fit for each gear set appropriately with as much minimal clipping as possible (hahaha) to make it not so jarring. If you were being realistic about this, you'd probably realize that it's not as easy as you make it sound to be based on your own assumptions.Quote:

It's why I had said what I had said. We can only hope that they look like Fran for that reason stated above and also because SE has a multi-year long history of telling us all one thing and doing the opposite usually. It is what it is.
Great. Glad you realized that. Because if we're talking about speculation, then there's no reason why you have to be so hostile or tell others to stop griping about it either.Quote:

You just put words in my mouth again, but whatever. If anything I'm fiesty and irritable today because I'm dealing with a very off the wall 8mo old. My apologies if that is bleeding through my posts right now. That said though while I look forward to Viera. My thoughts are my own, I'm not "hyped" because I have been burned by SE's announcements before but I am intrigued by it and I do look forward to it.
And I told one person to save their griping because we already have an idea of what to expect. I highly doubt viera will be changed too much from what peopel expect otherwise it would be a pointless endeavor for SE to make something that fans have been clamoring for only to change it into something it wasn't. Why else would fans beg for Viera only to get "not-quite Viera". Seems an odd thing to do.
Would they do that? Who knows it SE? Maybe... But i kind of doubt it. I think its safe to speculate that it will atleast resemble Viera from XII in most aspects.
On any other time I would agree and believe you with this statement. But, then I look back at All Greed Loot for 24-man Raids, Au Ra, Eureka, and the bunny suit male glamour fiascos...and I just...I really just can't have faith in SE as a company sometimes.
The logical thing would be not to do it as you said, but....it's SE. It's like a 50/50 thing with them whether or not they'll listen to anyone but the JP player-base.
Okay, so I've been thinking...
We know that in the Ivalice story, Viera are considered a 'sub-race.' What if that means 'clan?' What if the new race is called something completely different, but the two clans are called 'Viera' and 'Ronso.' I'd be 100% on board with that (unless Ronso are just tall buff Miqo'te, then I'll be disappointed again... severely more so than when Au Ra's concept art was shown).
Seeing how the nu mou are designed on the tactics artwork i got the strongest feeling the two clans we will get will be based on tactics and tactics A2:
A2:

and tactics:
https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/...20061218231306
compared to the ones from ff12 they have normal arm length and normal-ish feet
I think we are going to have both the tall version and the cute small version. Yoshi made an off comment about wearing a Peter Rabbit shirt also but stating it was too cute or something like that. It's just a guess but Yoshi is know for throwing out a lot of hints.
This thread made so many pages and it basically influenced the devs making Viera's as a race. Finally after 2 expansions we get them! Next we need to start a thread for a better character creation system for 6.0. Go go go go!
Kudos to all supporters! :o
Alot of people saying they don't want SE to do with Viera same as they did with Au Ra, i haven't been checking the forums much, so can someone tell me what did they exactly do to Au Ra that everyone hates so much? i'm enjoying being one enough as is...
ok so, what they did was they showed us concepts featuring highly draconic and demonic amazonian looking characters, some that were made smaller were made to looks more succubi while those taller looked more dragon like, in the end they chose some features from more humanoid designs to create the au ra that you see now.
during that time a lot of people hated the fact it was a quote "human with dragon parts slapped on" since they felt the concepts of more beastial dragon like au ra was replaced with "a more kawaii design" a lot of people were also put off by the sexual dimorphism between males and females. (yet i bet the same people who argued for no dimorphism would want it for viera in the reverse)
some images of said au ra concepts:
No prob, the fun thing is with concepts is a lot of ideas tend to get used in other places while others have to be toned down, looking at the in game models you can see what was chosen from where, with viera i feel like they have learnt this time and thats why any current concepts besides the old ones from years ago haven't been shown.
i'm sorry ;w;
Now for my on topic: i am hoping for Foel
a bit more differences then that, if we say frans tribe is the main viera the Veena Viera, then there are two other main types
Rava Viera and Feol Viera (Veena have white hair but darker tones and Rava have black hair and lighter tones but both are darker in fur/skin tone to the feol)
the Feol Viera are a mix race between the Viera and the Aegyl (basically a angel like winged race.) in Final Fantasy 12 Revenant wings. due to the mix raced nature the Feol are much smaller then there Veena counter parts, have much softer features i.e a rounder face more pale skin/fur, more curved shorter ears, compared to the Veenas more sharper features. Feol tend to be blonde as well.
think of the Veena and Rava as Wild Jackrabbits while the feol are more house bunny
and i think those differences will be the main sub races, if they focus on the ff12 designs,
if they use tactics the Feol are still a chance but the veena would most likely be replaced with just the 'Viera' from tactics, for a visual comparison:
Top Feol Middle Veena Bottom Tactics:
a fun thing to note i learnt while grabbing this is all viera are covered in short fur.
This is not my drawing but with the recent add of Blue Mage here's hoping they will make FFXI's AF into the game as well as Viera looking all badass.
https://i.redd.it/13nvfnkkxem11.jpg
while not said outright on size the description of "could be mistaken for a hume" was used, which also implies hight with the only feol we meet being smaller then vaan in some artwork as well dosnt help but with the models in ff12 they were taller then Vaan and the cast, so its going off those visuals mainly were talking at most a possible couple of inches either way
Can't wait to play my BLU Viera. ♥
That really makes me not like the Feol even more (literally Hyur with rabbit ears) and makes me hope my theory on the new race is true :/
If this is the last race and BLU can never be used in relevant raid/trial content... then two things I really want in FFXIV just won't ever happen :(
this was a bad idea. why did I do that?!
At least we know what gear sets and glamour will probably look good on them due to the different outfits they wear for the different tactics jobs.
Gotta post a picture :3

I found this old interview. What if the Ronso rumors are true, and we are getting one male only, and one female only race? http://www.novacrystallis.com/2013/0...cer-live-pt-5/
Oh hey it's Fran

I am one of those people who wouldn't be.
First of all, as far as I remember, there was no lore for female ronso to be out of sight or anything like that. So it makes even less sense for them to be gender locked than viera.
Secondly there were gender locked races in FFXI and from what I know this wasn't very well received. I think it would be a bad move to do it again. There is already enough controversy around gender locked gear in this game without having gender locked races.
As much as I would love Ronso to be playable (especially if we're no longer getting any new races, which is just a huge shame to me), even I am against the idea of making the races M-Ronso, F-Viera. Not only does it disappoint the people who want to play as the gender that's not playable, but it also kinda makes it jarring/typical of Asian MMO's (by typical, I mean: males are a beast, females are humans with animal bits).
I'm fine with making Viera one clan and Ronso another clan. How it works, who knows, but at least this way everyone gets something (and lessens/kills the chance of the child Viera becoming playable).
They already did it again. Miqo'te and Roegadyn were both gender-locked in FFXIV 1.x, just like their FFXI counterparts. We only got male miqo and femroe in ARR, so yeah, no way they'd repeat a "mistake" they've already fixed.
Should be noted that Highlanders were male only back in 1.X as well.
I guess we're getting tall viera? In any case, I''m very happy :D
Man, I show my support. Viera is Playboy Ganster with her man the strongest out there. Don't ask me twice because I can't a dog in this game.
changeing race to viera confirmed ;)
