I did end up going back to check my base success without buffs. I had a 94% base at 174 skill on il150 items. I gained 0 - .01 skill until 175, and still gaining....slowly. I can pretty much desynth anything I want and only go back to it if the MB doesn't have the mats I want. I am not going to do any 160 dungeon drops in case they add new mats to them when they put in red scrips and such, so I don't think I will end up capping just yet.
Also, has anyone desynthed a non-alchemy item and been able to get the dissolvent back? I can get every other mat but those no matter how much I desynth.

Oh, I'm not upset or anything. Just letting you know of a better option. I know how much work a new expansion entails, so thank you for continuing this! It helps a lot of people so much. :D
And to be honest, even though I can definitely grasp the concept of recipe level and the formulas, actually using it seems a little overwhelming. Maybe one day I'll just sit down and plug in numbers. I assume it's really that simple.
Edit: For GSM at about 145, has anyone tried out Dragon Fang Needle from the Goblin Trader in Idyllshire? It might be too expensive, but it looks interesting. -

These include dissolvents, glues (terminus putty doesn't count, putties are apparently more salvageable than glue), oils, and waters. I can't remember if you can salvage varnish or not. Most food items are also unavailable, but almost no food is salvageable, so that's generally a moot point. I think fish are also irretrievable, but I could be wrong, I don't desynth stuffed fish, like, ever. I should make a list at some point... This is something I only noticed recently.Quote:

Dragon Fangs are worth 20 gil on my server, but the other items aren't bad. 12k isn't a bad price for it for the exp, but you won't make 12k back on average given you have an estimated 53% chance of getting junk, and the other items are worth like 4-10k, and you can only get one back. Also, those are only r139 (c56) despite requiring level 57 to equip. Griffin Talon Needles, btw, are 15k each and r145. Depending on your dSkill, those might be better.
If Hardsilver Ingots are cheapish, you may be better off for pure leveling with Hardsilver Earrings of Gathering. They're r142 and only take 9 crystals, 2 Hardsilver Ingots, and 1 Hallowed Water. Since you can't get the water back, if my formula is correct (and I'm not saying it is), you should get worthless demimateria 33% of the time, 1 Hardsilver Ingot 33% of the time, and 2 Hardsilver Ingots 33% of the time. That means you get back half the Hardsilver Ingots you spend on average and some of the crystals (1-2 of each). The Hallowed Water is made out of one item that should be super cheap (the 2x abalathian spring water) and 2x abalathian mistletoe, which you can buy from a vendor for a total of 6.7k. So, it should cost 7.5k per synth in addition to the hardsilver. Hmm.... thinking about that though, they're probably more expensive than Griffin Talon Needles, and enough more expensive that you should just use the Griffin Talon Needles instead at that level.
So... I really don't know. I'm not that far yet to try it myself. I'm GSM dSkill 145, but I don't have access to the last two vendors yet since I'm slacking off on my DoW/DoM classes xD (my highest class is currently FSH). -

Hey, good call on using the Griffon Talon Needles. Even with NQ Bacon Broth and Tinker's Calm, they weren't bad at 150. I don't know about recouping my costs because I haven't crafted in Heavensward yet and I know desynthesis is pretty lackluster if you're not a crafter, but oh well, I'm weird.

That's spot on for the FC2s, Adamantite Nuggets, Birch Lumber, and Clusters. However, it looks like Griffin Talons are more common than average, and Cloud Mica Whetstones are less common than average.

Huh, that's... really weird. If anything, I'd expect the whetstones to be MORE common than the rest, not less. But, now that you mention it, I've noticed that I obtain far fewer Basilisk Whetstones than other mats too when desynthing stuff that can drop them. I'm not sure what's going on here... I mean, logically, you shouldn't be able to get whetstones from desynth at all! Like glues and dissolvents and stuff, that should be used up by the crafting process, not a part of the final product. Still, I HAVE gotten them back before.
If item levels affect the yield like I suspect, it must be the rlvl and not the ilvl, and Griffin Talons must have a low rlvl despite their high ilvl. Unfortunately, I don't know the recipe for Griffin Talons (I suspect it's something like 1x Griffin, 1x Adamantite Claw Hammer, and yields 12x talons per synth) much less the recipe level.
In other words, very useful information, but I must needs gather moar data!
Btw, according to my notes, at that level, you should use Aurum Regis Circlet of Healing (bought from the Repository Node) instead. However, my notes are a little skewed by the fact that you can't get dissolvents back (you can't, right?). I need to factor in the irretrievable items, like glues and dissolvents... Still, the chance at Chimerical Felt and the 50% more Aurum Regis Nuggets should make it noticeably more valuable than the Griffin Talon Needles. That will make up for the slightly increased cost to purchase. There's also no "garbage" drop from the circlets like with the Griffin Talon Needles (where the griffin talons are worth significantly less than the rest of the mats). Of course, that's not counting the worthless demimateria... In the end though, my math says that nothing is a straight profit anymore like it was at release. Prices, at least on my server, have come down too far for that from GSM. This may not be true for other classes, particularly LTW and ARM, but I haven't done the data entry for those yet, only GSM.
In other news, for GSM desynthers, according to my data so far, at max dSkill (where everything crafted/bought has a 100% success rate), you will get the most money for your time desynthing Gold Spectacles. My math tells me the BC3s you get for it outweigh the cost (at 70k per BC3), resulting in a gain of, on average, 5k profit per desynth. This does not take into account the time it takes to mass-craft them. This rate assumes dSkill 120+. The best profit you can make per desynth for an item that can be bought from a vendor is, at least for now on my server (and assuming my math is right), Silver Choker at 1,362 gil per click or Silver Wristlets at 1,262 gil per click. Those only require dSkill 50 and 36 respectively for max value (100% success rate). Of course, those two are only that profitable right now due to an inflated value of Silver Ingots, along with a steady decent price for FC1s. I don't know if it will come down or not in the near future, making that no longer a good profit.
Always keep in mind that my maths use the values of items on my server. YMMV.
