Kinda, if they where going to add Hyur now I would not expect them to spilt them in to two differently modelled groups. The midlander/highlander things seems to have been something done quite early in the planning of 1.0 and one that did not go live overly well followed through on as they didn't even have female models as far as I know.

The Midlander/Highlander thing was during the 1.0 days and hasn't happened again since. Though Highlanders back then were male only, much like how Miqo'te were female only and Roegadyn were male only.
I doubt we will ever see a new race having a clan that looks visually different (they had the opportunity with Au Ra's war tribe, but didn't).

Viera basically confirmed for 5.0 with the Bugs Bunny shirt and the Rak'Tika Greatwood.

They should make one varient tall and one small. Seriously. If they do the thing they did in SB with Aura, Imma flip tables. Cause Aura are just recolored varients of each other (much like most of hte races actually). I want to see some differences in the sub races.

No matter the appearance people will complain regardless. People have different tastes and the races don't give much variety sadly. I prefer a more beastial race but it ain't happening. Probably continue playing a generic hyur on main while my alts will be different races.

SO something with a rabbit motif is coming, but will it be viera viera, Foel Viera the other type from ff12 (whose name i forgot but they're basically the 'extinct one') Or ffv's humming way OR both ff12 and ff5 bunny though the two clans, the hype is real.

It’s happening in some respect! I’m so excited. I’m also hoping this means past waist length hairstyles cause that’s sorta a thing the viera have or that their designs are known for. But regardless so happy omg, will be my main race forever.

I only hope it has a reverse dimorphism. The girls being the buff and tall and the dudes being the short and delicate, the opposite of Au Ra.
(at least make one clan like that)

I'm disappointed, but I guess the most I can hope for is that it won't be yet another moe blob like Au Ra and Miqo'te... or worse, those children concept arts.

I would be happy if it'll actually be closer to being like Bugs Bunny, though. That'd actually be unique.

You're playing the wrong game if you dont want to see that kind of physical appearance.

Then how can I be a Roegadyn (who look fantastic in anything that allows them to dress up as a beastman)?
I also know there will be a few, if not, a lot of disappointed Viera fans if the Viera turned out to be nothing like their XII counterparts.

Roe was kind of the exception (atleast in the female department). They were intended to be muscular and large, but all of the other female races are pretty much smooth skinned and look like they are between the age of 14-24. lol
We already have an idea what viera will look like so just save your griping. It's gonna look like "Fran" for better or worse.

It's not set in stone. Consider the drastic changes between the concept art and final result for the Au Ra females.

I hope everyone gets what they want- one tall and sexy clan (XII), one small and cute clan (Feol). But if only one is available then I'd rather SE err on the side of what most people want, and that seems to be Fran and her ilk from XII.

I've said this in other thread but I honestly feel like they'll do a faithful translation of the design if the Nu Mou models are anything to go by.
Since male Viera have never been seen before, the dev team will probably have to put their own spin on it which is something I'm looking forward to seeing.

I mean, it's quite obvious that I've always hated Viera (more so thanks to Au Ra who could have been a very interesting race), so telling me to "save my griping" is a lost cause.
We've not yet seen what SE has done with Viera in XIV (probably not until 4.5). They might look like their XII counterparts (sans butt), but there's also a chance SE still took the "people want cute stuff" into consideration and instead make it a moe blob with rabbit parts (and the males looking like whatever).

On the other hand, Au Ra are unique to Final Fantasy XIV while Viera have precedent. It's kind of digging their own "grave" so to speak to announce a VIERA and make it unlike a Viera. Some changes are likely, yes. However it is unlikely to be significantly different from the concept arts in this case.

Though I wholeheartedly agree with you on how horrible a choice it was to scratch those concept arts for Au Ra. I'd live to play that and if it was the case, my main character wouldn't have been a Miqo'te.

I was surprised to see that SE went the Tactics Advance route for the Nu Mou and not XII's. FFXII Nu Mou are something special... really wish they did the same for the Seeq (they're adorable in TA2)

No, you only hope that they're going to look like Fran. They can do whatever they want with the race so long as it is remotely close towards a rabbit, still call it Viera, and have it not look anything like Fran at all. There's nothing set in stone yet and expecting XIV Viera to look exactly as the FF12 version is setting your expectations remarkably high for something SE could destroy in seconds judging by how they said Au Ra would look one way and we got the total opposite, same thing with how they said they were going to make a bunny suit for guys...and it was just an unlocked female version.

SE has this problem of not listening to what anyone wants and then wondering why we're all complaining.

Sorry, this just seems like another unimaginative lazy stupid attempt at a new race. I get it is part of the ff world but all the races just look like humans with a couple additional traits. Tall, short, scales, a cat tail, there are no real races! You look at World of Warcraft and their races really look and sound like true individual races. Not lazy copies of each other. Trolls, tauren, the elves, orcs, and so on they have real distinctive looks and linguistic accents that set them apart. If they want to bring in these rabbits they could at least take the chance to make them truly a new race with a distinctive look. Not sure how cause this bunny race seems silly to me, but at least make an effort!

As somebody who knows the Viera since good old FF Tactics Advance (I was 12 when the GBA was new~), guess how excited I am to see Yoshi wearing a Bugs-Bunny-T-shirt while a new race was announced. (Also, I am so amazed how wonderful the TA-design of the Nou Mou got translated into 3-D-models. If they could give us Ezel and / or Babus, that would be ultimate fan-service.)

Pretending to be a Viera in a game with set motions doesn't work, dummy. (Also, Highlander and Roegadyn don't have the right arm-lenght and lack grace compared to the bunny-girls.)

But well, chances are 50:50 my main ends up as a Viera -- my mentioned twink could also become a real rabbit, though I'm not yet decided if I'm going to use the free Fantasia I have due to the old boni.
