Huzzah! I have survived another week! I'm really curious about everyone elses shots for the 4th week. Can't want for the voting to start. :)
Bye guys, have fun with the rest of the competition :o
I can recover from my tonsillectomy without logging in now, hehe.
And sorry to Judge C - I have seem to upset them or something, judging by the way they have commented on my work every week :( I apologise if I did something to unintentionally hurt your feelings?
Get well soon L'yhan! *snuggle* <3 I hope you feel better soon, and take full advantage of icecream yums!
Judges -
Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it! I see this was a mixed one, and that's ok because I love the feedback! I did try going for a more traditional type of work (tried miner, botanist, culinarian, even armorer! Heehee) but I figured a lot might go for that angle and a lot did with beautiful results!
Honesty with how much all of us were complaining about this one, everyone did amazing! I loved them all!! :D
So I started thinking what else can be considered building the realm? Then help from my photographer and a insight from Tataru came to mind: hey even she took up mining because a city/group needs money to function! If there isn't an economic flow to it then there is no money to build and shop keepers, merchants etc are just as important! That's why I decided to go with the theme, even if it was risky! I was hoping people would get what I was going for. XD
But yes, the NPC did come out looking huge, lol!! She was standing on a stool which made her look really tall (and it doesn't help that I am the smallest kitty you can be lol), and I agree, should have played with the angle on this one more but I'll admit this one had me flustered so I was happy just to get a shot I liked~! I'll make sure to watch those angels! Heehee
But NPC BUTT! Hahahahaha! XD
Thanks Judges!!! :D
Yup, although it's random so it's possible it could be the same? I'm not sure. I don't even know which judge is which half the time >.>
If I felt there was any personal bias from a judge against a model I would remove that judge or at the very least ask our backup to take over that specific model's voting from them. One of our judges has very much fallen into the Simon Cowell mould and that may well be why it could feel that way. The fact that any model is concerned about being singled out is a warning sign for me however, so I'll be keeping a close eye on that going forwards and redoubling my effort to make sure the criticism provided is helpful and constructive.
It doesn't matter that the judges are random. The judge actually stated that he was singled out:
"While the other judges may not agree with me, I just really haven't seen anything from you in the previous rounds that stands out to me as a quality shot, and the same goes in this round too."
L'yhan, your Ariel will always be one of the high points of this contest for me. Get well soon.
Oh no! I know how you feel though. I took a shot that blew me away. It was so gorgeous and probably my best screenshot ever. I loved it and felt confident about it and went back and saw a small but glaring flaw. After I saw it, I knew it was all anyone would hone in on who looked at the shot for more than 5 seconds. Tried to recreate it but can't seem to get all the right conditions to align again. ; ;
When I say being singled out I mean being judged more harshly in comparison to other models - Judge C was somewhat harsh across the board this week. I don't feel that there's anything wrong with referencing prior shots when suggesting improvements - that's happened with other models too. I do agree that the feedback could be phrased more constructively though and will be addressing that for future rounds.
ffffffffff
Regarding Character Creation Restrictions:
○ Balmung
Goes to make character,
"World is full"
SE Y U LIE 2 ME
OMG O_o I can't believe I crawled up to a third place!
Thank you guys so much for all the votes this round.
I'll make sure that next round will be memorable too! :D
I have to say the scores were what I expected for my picture. Sorry I disappointed the judges though, I think I was just lucky with my round 2 pic. :(
OMGaga!!!! I would have never expected this!! Thank you all so much!
@The Judges: Thank you for the comments as always, as for the lighting, like I stated earlier I tried my best to get that prefect lighting and tried to use the sun minion, and even when I finally got the sun minion placed on the ropes it just did not want to get low enough to hit my character as it kept going at an angle. But I will try my best for better lighting in the future. Thank you all.
Welp, I got majorly distracted by Dragon Age Inquisition and kinda forgot about the screenshots, OOPS! Definitely not my strongest this week, but don't have a whole lot of time to fiddle with them :x Oh well! Hopefully I find an hour or two to mess around with it a little more today.
Yes! I shall before last my way to the top!
I created a rikkustrife on balmung this morning
2 rikkustrifes actually, since i did not know if we are meeting in la noscea or elsewhere
Thank you everyone for liking my photos so far. Been following the feedback since round 1, and appreciate the comments given to me.
Though some feedback in round 3 made me wanna comment. The few comments of "i wish your character wasnt looking directly into the camera" and "You're posing in the middle of a group talking, so you look out of place" and "I wish you were looking at the npc like the rest" from the judges and audience. I just wanted to point out that is the "/Think" emote is supposed to represent "deep in thought and trying hard to come up with an answer". And often times when you are deep in thought about something in a discussion you will look away from the person you are talking too for a moment as you think about it. Most of the emotes in game will have you gesture directly to the person in some way. But the "/think" emote will have you look in just about every direction except the target to mimic real life. So it's not that Ronin is looking AT the camera with his chin rest on his hand, but he is looking at the "ground" in thought.
What I had hoped came across to the audience from the picture:
Group of workers discussing plans for a project in the area.
Female human is talking, everyone is paying attention to her.
Ronin goes into deep thought about what she just said looks away and reflects on her words.
Or atleast that is what I had hoped came across.
Thank you for the feedback, and I will try for a better and more clear shot next time. :)
Mor Dhona has been really cleaned up, there isnt much "construction" left anymore :(
Sorry, I should clarify - I am assuming by the tone that these are the same people and could be wrong. i just get a vibe from all three posts that I have done something to upset this person, possibly quoting them after week 1 and suggesting more constructive feedback?
Judge A: "This shot doesn't excite me at all. I just feel like it's very bland and could just be completely scrapped and redone."
Judge C: "But sorry L'yhan, maybe next round you'll prove me wrong about you.”
Judge C: "While the other judges may not agree with me, I just really haven't seen anything from you in the previous rounds that stands out to me as a quality shot, and the same goes in this round too."
It just feels that there was some preconceived notion about me (as stated in round 2) and I wanted to apologise if I had unintentionally done something to that person they may have perceived as malicious. I really just want to get along and be happy :)
I dont think so, I trust Ty when he says something is done a specific way, and it's my understanding that Judge C is not the same judge each week. So you may have gotten just really unfortunate commentary three times. I hope so, as no one should feel like they're being singled out. But I do agree that the way it was worded this week was unnecessarily harsh... I actually read every critique and when I got to yours I had to pause and go 'damn.' Mostly because nearly the entirety of that particular critique was not entirely 'constructive' to me.
However Judge C was also rather nice to me (Which I'm damn thankful for. <3 In case it's unclear XD) I appreciated what he/she had to say on my photo, and pretty much every other critique. Including this one, even though it can be seen as harsh. (I wanted to point this out, just in case. Also that this is my only post on this topic now OR in the future. They're doing the best they can.)
I understand that the LITERAL MEANING of 'Critique' is to provide criticism, however the proper act of performing a critique is to provide criticism with the intent to improve the value of the medium you're having critiqued. If an artist wanted flat criticism of their work, as the old saying goes 'we are our worst critics' which is still incredibly true. I've hated EVERY picture I've turned in for several small reasons, or large reasons. I like yet I hate. I can look at ANY of my pictures and find a dozen or more flaws that 'if I could just...' even well after the voting has started.
So I am very sorry that you got such a harsh hand dealt to you. Truly I am. It does seem a bit overly critical to the point of unhelpfulness, and even bordering on insulting.
So for the purpose of critique for future judge critiquing, I will critique that particular critique.
Judge C: "While the other judges may not agree with me, I just really haven't seen anything from you in the previous rounds that stands out to me as a quality shot, and the same goes in this round too. Nothing excites me about this shot and the chosen area seems clunky. The background while full of pretty colors, is cut off (on both sides for that matter) and doesn't make up for the rest of the shots downsides. The only thing I could say done well is the lighting, but...? You're going to need a whole lot more than just good lighting to make me give you a high score." (Quoted in entirety.)
Lets break down the difference between constructive and nonconstructive criticism.
"While the other judges may not agree with me, I just really haven't seen anything from you in the previous rounds that stands out to me as a quality shot and the same goes in this round too."
Alright. While not particularly nice, it IS a criticism. However it lacks constructiveness because you entirely forgot how to rectify this for the recipient. How can we improve this shot, in your opinion? When you offer a criticism, you must also offer a means to improve that criticism. The very act of critique is born from the desire to improve a work. That is one of the defining differences between a direct criticism, and a critique. The desire to help the artist improve.
"Nothing excites me about this shot and the chosen area seems clunky."
Ok, now this is CONSTRUCTIVE. You've pointed out a flaw in the image, as well as why you've viewed it as such. From this we can draw that the area is not a desirable setup, use a different location for future photos, and perhaps even consider what all is included in the photo. Wonderful!
"The background while full of pretty colors, is cut off (on both sides for that matter)"
Again, valuable information was included in this criticism. You let us know what has made you displeased, as well as suggested how we may improve this shot. You even complimented the background's coloration.
"and doesn't make up for the rest of the shots downsides."
Whoops, again we've broken into the nonconstructive criticism. What other downsides? Or are you referring to the background getting cut off and the clunky scenery (So far the only two downsides you've actually pointed out here.) Information is key! Give us details on what you see wrong, list them off if you must but be sure to provide us with ways to resolve the problems you see in the shot. "This shot sucks" is much less helpful than "I dislike the scene, and the lighting is poor, perhaps you could utilize a different area and pull in other friends with sun minions to help, or ask someone else to snap the shot if camera barriers are getting in your way."
"The only thing I could say done well is the lighting" "but...?
You do not need to quantify a compliment with a 'but'. If he got the lighting good, then leave it at that. No one likes being mooned anyway (hur hur, get it? Butts. Yeah, I squeezed a butt joke in here.)
"You're going to need a whole lot more than just good lighting to make me give you a high score."
Here is a statement that while acceptable borders on nonconstructive. It's true, if an image is flawed we must all strive to become better to improve our scores. You dont NEED to tell us that, it's pretty obvious based on the score that will immediately FOLLOW this very critique. BUT I cannot fault you for stating this, as it is indeed a true statement, albeit a little harsh to see thrown at a person. So my only advice here is to be mindful of the fact that again we are all critiquing right along with you, some of us more harshly than others.
So overall this was a good critique. Only two areas needed improved, three were spot on, and one was a bit iffy but totally factual. It was just a bit harshly phrased in those red areas, or lacked the means to improve <3
Critique completed, I have to say a big thank you to ALL judges (including this one) for taking the time out to do us this service. It IS a service, they are taking time out of their days to provide us feedback for our art submitted (and it pretty much is just that.)
You guys are all wonderful people in my book, and I appreciate every thing you do, even in the moments where it's less friendly. I know it's not intentional, NOR is it meant to come off as malicious. <3 I know, I've judged things before and it can be super SUPER hard to remember the differences between constructive and nonconstructive criticisms especially when you're on a deadline, in a hurry, or if you're just doing something as a service.
It really can be the hardest job in the world to judge another person's creation, and for that I wholly respect each and every one of you. Your job is hard, thankless oftentimes, and you will catch more heat than any of us models will, even in the harshest of critiques.
YOU. ARE. AWESOME. Remember it.
I don't wanna be harsh but i think people should be so upset over a critigue. What I mean, is if you decide to join in a future cycle and its very stressful or you find yourself easily offended at a judge or voters comments in a contest like this that is much much nicer then its counter show its based on, you should consider staying in it as a fan or voter then being hurt by someones opinions. Not that your not wanted! It's just I want everyone to have a great time and so much fun! People shouldn't walk away sad from this ever<3 Rongi had a lot of stress on this and the way he handled things or how people interpreted things before and people should just have fun! lots of fun! Including Rongi and Ty because it can be stressful to keep judges, fans and models happy. I got some not so nice comments in my past rounds too and they always made want to just work harder, so don't be down! One round might be hard for you but that doesn't mean you wont shine through on the next! keep your heads up!
*edited because i totally was tired and did not get the intended message across before passing out on my face last night :P
Still waiting on two more models to send in their casting wall shots, but here is a little preview!

Sorry, I think you've got the wrong impression of me and my intent - I am not 'easily offended', but from those comments I feel like I have upset/caused grief/done something to cause a particular person to dislike me, and I wanted to apologise for it if I had done so :-) In each of my posts I have said that I simply wanted to apologise, and also posted the quotes to reference the person I was speaking about, as all three comments seem to be connected and possibly the same person, and show that perhaps it was more than just my screenshots they disliked. I am not comfortable with the idea that maybe I've caused another person grief because, you know, I'm human! I like to speak up on behalf of others and treat everyone with respect and dignity, and causing other people to be upset is never my intent. :-) Hence making the post. It's one thing to have broad shoulders, but another to think you're causing people to dislike you because you've unintentionally hurt them. I don't know who the judge is, so I posted here to make peace :-)
I personally had a great laugh at the comments, and I hope it shows through my screenshots that I did not take them overly seriously (hence picking Ariel, etc) because it was all in good fun! I knew and accepted my screenshot for the last round was crap and due to my operation and unexpected level of discomfort, I am quite glad to be voted off! I can rest and relax now - it all happened after I applied to join this contest, so my voting off is perfect timing!
It's just a free screenshot exhibition, with no actual prizes or loss of money, what is there to even get upset about? :)
Peace and love to all, and happy fun times!
I didn't ask other people to comment or post, and request that you don't - please keep the photos and fun discussion happening! I'm definitely not losing sleep over anything, just wanted to extend my love and apology to the anonymous judges (who I think are awesome and doing a great job) if I have hurt anyones feelings!!
PS
Thanks guys! Gosh, at 28 years old and getting tonsils removed, it is definitely something I would not wish on my worst enemy! GIVE ME MOAR DRUGS! Hehe.
Lucky I do love ice-cream! *hugs*
Thanks for the support and great comments about by Ariel screenshot! You have no idea how hard my friends were laughing about that - I left the beard on on purpose because of the humour of it all!
ohhh i think we know what time it is...

time for a group hug!!
@L'Yhan - i truly believe ice cream makes everything better and i hope it works for you and you feel fabu soon.
also, having gotten to know the judges, I truly don't think any of them have something against you personally.
As a matter of fact, I, as a judge myself, can only speculate as to who the judge or judges are that wrote your critiques. I only know which comments are mine as TyrionT keeps us locked up in separate brigs with only a bit of parchment and charcoal to write out our comments under the light of the moon.

Oh nono not at all! Ack! I swear I wasn't meaning that -at- you! I swear!(Personally I laughed and clapped at your mermaid cosplay haha) hun I didn't mean anyone in general actually im just saying as for anyone, i didn't feel you were hurt and im all for hugs and ice cream!^^ i just know in the last cycle feelings were hurt left and right and some people walked away upset with rongi that made rongi upset and Im just saying in general, if people are offended easily, they shouldn't enter contests where only one person(or two in this case^^)are gonna -not- be eliminated is all. I was really sad in cycle 2 when people stopped giving judge critigues.. I really liked to hear them, and I don't want to see them go away again is all<3 I am sorry though i should have clarified what I ment but I was sleepy and went to bed like right after that. But yes no not you, just future contestants. I don't really feel you came off hurt rather then saying you wish you could have made judge c more happy with your pictures. I just don't want Ty or Rongi to have people sending them messages about how unfair or rigged these things are again, because it hurts them too<3 im sorry for the misunderstanding!
Also awwww! tonsils suck D: Jello and whipped cream for you <3 lots of it!
Ooo you sneaky kitty! It's okay yout like 1 yalm from my spot so you can chill with me and some fresh cold milk in coconuts<3. But if you inch over I -might- have to push you in the water!!

Also thanks to everyone that voted for me last round, and to the judges for their critiques ;) Also in response I do have a question. Some comments were related to my background, and well, with my chosen area I'm not too sure how to spruce up a background like that :/ Any suggestions?
I guess the only outfit I'll sport with during the event on the 30th will be the best man tux attire :D
