All this "you agreed to it" stuff....

Things have changed regarding how we need to use Steam so we are voicing concerns.

I don't really think that's a weird thing to do.

Could be this goes seamlessly with no trouble at all. I hope it does. But the potential for things to go wrong if it's not handled well is pretty high. I mean, this change was already stalled once due to a showstopping issue.

If you are worried, just make a backup of your xiv documents / my games folder. That has all your char data and should be backed up anyway.

My point is that legally S-E and / or Steam are well within their rights to do this, which does supersede any argument that you can make. You can yell and scream all you want, but when you're legally in the wrong, it's your point that doesn't hold water.

Agreeing to the ToS for a Steam copy in no way voids or legally prevents us from obtaining licenses for this game on other platforms. The licenses for Steam and Windows are demonstrably separate, they are as incompatable as a PC and Mac license or Mac and PS4. We are well within our legal right to ask SE for the option to buy basic windows licenses to apply to our accounts should we, for any reason, be unhappy with how the Steam client interacts with the product.

So by logic of few salty people here, if at 29th August more than 20k players will find out that now we log in through Valve's auth servers, DC every times it's down, can't play for days and weeks losing our sub time due to problems on Valve's side (which, hopefully, will not happen, but we don't even know WHAT awaits us there for sure, because SE doesn't give us ANY info) - we should just <kupo!> up and eat this silently without asking even for a possibility to connect new non-steam licenses to our recent service accounts for not loosing 5+ y.o. characters and thousands hours of playing. We shouldn't be concerned about any changings just because we bought a game there and agreed with ToS that was relevant five years ago and can't ask for stopping our contract with Steam because (if) it doesn't do its job properly anymore and making a new one with SE directly. Just because.

I never called the legality of the change into question.

And simply telling someone they're wrong doesn't mean they're wrong. You really need to learn how to argue properly.

In an agreement each part have to do his part of the agreement. When you sign a ToS you will accept those terms but the other side will accept that as well. Both have responsibilities.

You accept to play through Steam launcher but Valve accept to give you a working and well done access to the game as well and when you confirm your ToS with SE you accept their conditions and changes, but SE become responsible for giving you a quality service while you play. There is no verticality in responsability forcing one to accept quietly the changes that offend or reduce the quality of the offered service. When you feel restricted of conditions of the service given to you you have the right to complain about it to the other side.

The fair way to solve this is through a new agreement, after discussion and respect between both sides. Any arbitrariety or impositions would prejudice the other side. No agreement is dogmatic (without questioning or not capable of soffering alterations in the future) after you sign it. The terms must be adjusted through time by both parts if someone is not happy about the changes.

While people are saying legally this can be done or that they are not questioning they can legally make that change. For those of us in the UK the Consumer Rights Act 2015 dose question the legality of this change, at no point until now (and even now its still not listed on the store page) has the Steam version of the game been described as actually requiring Steam to run, this means the game no longer fits its description (system requirements as that is what this is would be part of its description) and as the law states it is the description at the time you were supplied with and not at the time of modification any changes to the description or contract when this is applied are irrelevant to any legal claim.

Side note, if as I saw someone mention because of ESO and ping times increase it means the change will also affect the quality of the game and in my case it may no longer be fit for purpose as I got FF14 to play with my friends on a US server while I am in the UK.

(The term "trader" in this case would mean both Square and Steam)

Quality, fitness and description of content supplied subject to modifications
(1)Where under a contract a trader supplies digital content to a consumer subject to the right of the trader or a third party to modify the digital content, the following provisions apply in relation to the digital content as modified as they apply in relation to the digital content as supplied under the contract—

If you bought through square this has no impact on you correct? This is only for stream users?
