Not really. If the party was struggling, a RDM would be rather valuable for verraise/verheal and should've gotten a priority rez. If not either healer could have easily spared a gcd to Rez.

I don't really have a dog in this fight either way but I think it's a mistake to assume people know to raise the red mage asap. I've seen healers raise samurais of all things over red mages.

I think many don't stop to think about it. They just raise the first person they click on.

I didn't mean for that post to become a debate. I just wanted to share his account, which was them (knowingly, on purpose) keeping him dead. It's just a ridiculous scenario all around. ^^;;

I don't really care how good or bad people are, but this was pushing it for me. Healer couldn't keep me up to big pulls, which was fine. I've dealt with this before. Then I died to a 1 pack. Both dps were casters and kept running the fixate/tether mob on them in circles and didn't do damage.

Had to solo the first boss from 20%. Everyone else died, they didn't ask for mechanics I didn't explain, not upset by this.

Had a somewhat smooth but slow run to second boss.

Smooth fight. Alright, maybe everyone has it together now.

Get to last boss. 8 wipes. BLM and RDM kept running off the sides trying to avoid lasers. Healer couldn't keep me and themselves up, randomly died to lasers 5 pulls in. Complains that the boss is bulls**t and doesn't give him time to heal.

On pull 9 I solod it from 15%.

I don't think I've tanked since, honestly.

As a Dark Knight, I joined a clear party for Innocence EX to help the Warrior tank out with his clear. We've had runs where some DPS kept getting hit by the same tether mechanics or became too greedy for DPS to the point where they got knocked out. When 2 DPS left, 2 different DPS players joined the party. In a few attempts, we beat Innocence before he finished casting his second set of the 4 Starbirth aoes. Four thing beautiful things happened from clearing Innocence EX:

1. Warrior tank and a few others got their first time clears.
2. Warrior tank got 3 Immaculate Fending Accessories.
3. I got my 300th win for the armored tank mount for the Dark Knight role.
4. The Innocent Gwiber mount trumpet dropped and I won it with a 97.

My last Dohn Mehg run for the night on my RDM, everyone gets in and after a few seconds we start to run to the first mobs. Tank pulls the first pack, doesn't use Interrupt just straight on goes to the next pack. At the second pack he ends up dieing not too long after due to the Scholar lagging a bit, so we all wipe. After reviving the tank stays in place for about a minute, then starts going before stopping again. The rest of us start getting close but not within pull distance of the first pack again when the tank does a ready check. 3/4 for it (pretty sure someone had whatever it was that made them always say not ready for so really 4/4) and then promptly leaves.

30 seconds later we get a new to the dungeon GNB tank who does single pulls which is nice both because Dohn Mheg always felt to me like the hardest dungeon to heal as a WHM and the Scholar still had some lag up till near the second boss from what I could see. Dungeon goes fine with them from there on.

Second dungeon of ShB. Final boss does the ‘walk on a tightrope’ thing.

I decided I wanted to show off by hitting Sprint, and immediately yeet myself off the first turn.

Oh, i dont care about boosters as long as they play well. But, vercure is not nearly as helpful as one might expect, and, i'd prioritize my cohealer or a dead tank over a rdm.

Plus, the mana changes severely limit the amount of times a rdm can raise now, especially one that just died.

By "priority" I don't mean that you rez the RDM before your co-healer (or a tank if you need one just then), but that if you have multiple DPS down, the RDM or SMN should probably get priority, since they may be able to save you a bit of mana

Sorry if it looked like I was singling you out...I was just mad that someone would actually get someone killed and leave them dead like that.

My favorite is watching RDMs think they can be clever with Corps-a-corps and skip the whole puzzle, only to fall down into the pit below.

I watched a dragoon try to use Spineshatter Dive to skip it. It even worked.....except they then fat-fingered Elusive Jump. Whoops.

That's an idiotic mechanic anyway. I play on controller with legacy movement control and have never once made it across on time. It's at the point where I don't expect to. Square should not ever do anything like this again.

I would love for them to do more of those types of mechanics. It's also rather easy to do while using a controller and legacy movement. All you need to do, is get to a corner, stop, turn camera, and repeat until you get across

Turning camera does nothing. It sounds like we're talking about two completely different things.

I use controller, with legacy movement, and I rotate the camera to point in the direction I want to go, then push forward on the joystick to go that direction.

I really wasn't trying to start a debate on this either, I was just trying to give an alternate side that maybe they weren't doing it intentionally.

The other day I got into World of Darkness with my friend - we were the two healers (I'm a WHM main, he used to main AST). On the very first boss (Angra Mainyu -the giant eye) we ended up with about 5 deaths throughout the fight due to various things. At one point we did have to leave someone on the ground for a little bit. The most memorable raise was the tank as he ran right back up to the boss and reclaimed before we could even cure him, and promptly died again. He did make a comment like "oohhh, maybe I should have waited for a cure", so that's fine - we all do silly things now and then. But then one of the DPS decided to say we were just sleepy healers.

I don't even know how it was so bad, honestly it shouldn't have been seeing it's just WoD, but it was. And we got insulted to boot.

Well, it’s an annoying gimmick when you’re repeatedly doing the dungeon, but I also play on controller with Legacy controls and have zero issues getting across. Try rotating your camera along with the pathway so that it’s always behind your character.

I have to add myself to this thread ;_; I apologize to the group I just had in Sunken City of Skalla. I just hit 70 Dancer and clicked to do my first roulette of the day. Since there was a queue I figured I would go on Botanist and try to level that up as well. Apparently I did not save my level 70 gear when I switched so when it came to change jobs when the queue popped I was still in my leveling gear I think from Castrum which I did not notice until I was out and went to do my next roulette yikes. I don't know how I was able to queue since it's well below the required level, but I am guessing that when I queued initially it was on the correct ilevel so it still let me do that dungeon? I imagine the RDM carried us through that dungeon I feel so dumb =/ I didn't think to double check because I use the same glamour whenever I get a new piece of gear so it all looks the same to me uggh. Well damn I just double checked and I didn't have the gear glamoured so I am not sure how I missed this but I feel like a moron still.

I play on KB+M with legacy control, and I feel like it's even more annoying. I have to tap my keys very carefully to get my character faced in the right direction. But I'm usually the first one to cross because I use the "slow and steady" approach.

What is it with people insta-bailing on the new trials (Innocence and the level 80 trial for sure, haven't seen this with Titania just yet)?

Incident #1: Yesterday, get a 3-min in-prog of Innocence, only one healer, party otherwise full. We discuss it for a moment and then decide to pull while down a healer. One joins just after the checkpoint (iirc), and we end up one-shotting him.

Incident #2: Today, Level 80 trial, 0m in-prog, again short a healer. We consider starting short, and one of the DPS goes to jumping around...and jumps a touch too close to the boss (oops). We decide to run with it, but don't make it through P1. Healer joins just after the wipe. Start again, get to P2, wipe, restart P2, win.

Neither of these were horribad. Mistakes were made, but we still won both times...and much more quickly than the 30m those leavers had to wait.

Yeah, I unlocked all DPS and tanks and mostly that's it. I did get the job stones for Paladin and Warrior, but still haven't gotten beyond that. And while dps seem fun, I tend to see them like musical instruments that each have their own unique musical scores to play. Which of course means practice, practice, practice the notes then after that practice, practice, practice the score (spoiler: never managed to learn any actual music instruments :p ). So bravo to you for branching out. I'm supposed to get around that once the healers are all at 80...

Leveling WHM, got Sohm Al with a GNB and their dps buddy. GNB wearing i50 accessories, no neckpiece, and an i28 belt. My fiances on dragoon and they ask me if im gonna say anything. "Only if they do something even more stupid," is my reply. They start out doing baby pulls but no cooldowns and i think, "oh good, they know they are terribly geared." NOPE. WRONG. THEY PULL EVERYTHING TO THE WALL RIGHT BEFORE THE FIRST BOSS.

Literally spend everything i can to keep them up and we wipe because i didnt have a spare gcd to cleanse poison off of myself and i die to poison.

So as i return i say, "look, if youre not gonna come in adequately geared at the very least you could do me the favor of using your cooldowns and not doing large pulls."

The GNB's dps friend says, "no need to be so hostile..."

I was so tempted to say "oh, i'll show you hostile" and then kick them. Eeked it out to the end and when i mention to the GNB that he needs to get better gear the DPS friend says "i do what i want."

Look, i'm always down for people getting into tanking but REALLY think you should have to have a tank leveled to 70 to be able to pick GNB up.

Just now we’re doing roulette, started Rabanastre, as soon as we enter both healers left, then both tanks left, then only one healer joined our alliance, we played the whole fight with just 4 dps and one healer, we actually did it till the end with not much deaths and I can say it went fairly smooth, all my respect to the whole team especially the healer, Mamba’ where ever you are you did great and you really deserved my comm.

If it was in a coffer, maybe their armory chest was full and they went to inventory? Also possibility of full inventory affecting receipt of them? The quick equip option doesn't check inventory, just armory chest.

getting kicked off from a group by a red mage main playing as tank from famfrit server, for not pulling anything as a healer xD also told that same tank to off the broom hes got stuck up his butt because he got mad because i couldnt keep him up in the goo section while he had 7 monsters on him and went way ahead of the group before we could move and asked him to calm down before i would res him. after he died on a spiderweb door
also went into the first room to ge a cell, usually done this way from memory, i pulled i tanked, 3 mobs...i didnt die. that prolly triggered him

Twice today I had people leave. First time was in leveling Gubal. He kept dying to the first boss. Healer kept picking him up and healing him but he kept dying. He just left during the fight.

Second time was in Mhach. Again they kept dying to the first boss. To be fair over half the alliance died to the very first mechanic. The death tornado that sucks you in. He just left during the fight.

You can't get better if you don't try. And both times everyone was saying it's fine, mistakes happen. That kind of stuff. So no one was yelling at them.

Well.... leveling breaker I've had some ROUGH starts. I'm not happy about it but I am a BAD tank T.T. I fully didn't understand how to use my cool downs and caused a few wipes. I never snapped at anyone tho atleast and always said -my bad-. But I felt horrible for being bad. So I went in with trust and ran a few new dungeons until I was abit more comfy on the job. I guess it paid off as I was just tanking the 78 dungeon and the healer randomly thanked me for using my CDs. It was a big pull too.

I like to pride myself in knowing what Im doing but leveling gun was ... an experience. I almost deleted the alt I'm leveling it on as I was seriously knocked down a peg and pride was extra hurt. But I'm glad I didn't and kept going to the lab to practice and to look back and try and learn from my mistakes. It SUCKS man.... but I don't want to be horrible so I'mma truck on. The worst part is seeing that you need improvement and knowing what that means. It sucks and doesn't feel good AT ALL. You can ask for people to be nicer or whatever but at the end of the day if you have to improve then you have to do it. If for nothing else so people don't get super pissed at you in dungeons. -sigh- One day I'mma be perfect... and not deal with these things called feelings and regret lol. One day.

Best not to overthink it. You can always do small pulls until you get used to it. The tank decides the pulls.

At this point, it's mostly just making sure you have your tank stance on, and aoe'ing a couple times, and you pretty much won't ever lose aggro. When it comes to DCD management, I don't really know gunbreakers kit, as I haven't leveled one yet, but generally, when you get used to it, you just time them right. Remember arm's length is a dcd now, and can really help with some packs. By timing I mean, take note of what the healer has used on you, in time you will get used to the healers cds as well as yours. Sometimes the healer will have downtime, and you ahve to pop something to keep up, or the healer is doing dps. How fast adds are being downed, will you have this dcd up by next pull, etc.. As a dark knight generally I will use 'The blackest Night' on cd during pulls, and some pulls it's the only cd you need. If you are going in before a boss room, depending on the boss/healer you might even be able to get away with just dumping everything. You can even dump some dcd right after a boss is downed and the new adds, because it will be up by the time you get to the adds before boss room. You would be better off not just sitting on your skills, and use them. During boss, I have yet to play the other tank classes, but generally you wanna manage your MP on dark knight for example so you can pop "blackest night" on a buster, pay attention to the boss's casts.

A few tips for learning tanking:

1. always check your healers gear to see if you can pull big or small. If the healer is geared well, you can & should usually pull big.
2. Arm's Length is a great cooldown. It's comparable to Rampart. A lot of people don't seem to use Arm's Length for some reason.
3. Stop caring about dying. You only lose time, and it's something I think most tanks & healers need to get over. Trial by fire is the best way to learn. At worse, you fail, and if you succeed - that will just increase your confidence. :cool:

Also, I tend to put all of my cooldowns near where they would be for other tank classes. It actually really helped me for learning Cooldown usage of other classes without needing to look at hotbars. For example, Nebula is on the same button as Sentinel, Shadow Wall, and Veng - while on all tanks Rampart is right beside them.

Perfectly fine no wipes tank pulled wall to wall and it went smoothly

play as DPS today, titania trial (normal)

party start, didnt even hit titania once, one tank nope out and force leave.

reason? because both healer are AST, what... in the world? talk about super rude. especially when both healer is deck on 420'ish gear while the nope tank is still at 410'ish, luckily the other tank got his guildy (also tank) on free so he call him and everything went well.

ever since shb, the ammount of "rude" people really adding up, i feel sorry for you all who primarily doing endgame raid and stuff.

I just witnessed the most dumbest thing ever.
Was doing trial roulette yesterday and got titania, so we start.
Basically at some point the tank died only once and the healer made fun of him for dying, at that point both healer and tank got into a conflict and insulted each other through the whole damn fight.
At a certain point the healer apologized for being pissy and had just a bad day.
Smh all of that could have been avoided.
