You know the evilness that lurks out there, they destroy PUG's, instigate TPK's like they're going out of style, make primals so much harder to bring down. You know them as fate-runners. No strategy, no thinking, no waiting for buffs, scream at you when they die because of their stupidity. You can always tell a fate-runner in a dungeon, raid, or instance. When I try to give some advice, they don't want it. My LS has managed to rehab some runners, but we just shake our heads at the greater majority of them.

I was a WHM first, SMN second and now PLD. Being a PLD after being a WHM is an eye opener. I now see both sides of the equation. Yeah I sometimes have problems holding aggro, especially when a lot is going on. But one time in WP, I had a super aggressive healer who always went ahead, used holy and aero too much, sometimes before I even got full aggro. I feel like parties don't work together like they should. Another healer in WP always used Medica II all the time. Had a terrible time keeping her from getting mobbed, sometimes she'd lead in with Medica II. Finally I told her I was a WHM first and that it's better to use targeted cures and regen as appropriate and Medica II only when absolutely necessary. Don't think she was using Shroud Of Saints either. But I was very polite about it, not mean or critical. The wiping stopped.

When I first started tanking, a WHM who was a tank first gave me advice in 1000 Maws. She called me aside and suggested some things. She said she didn't want to offend me. I told her no way she could, good advice and she was nice.

One thing in this game that bugs me is some ppl just through a fit when there are problems, order ppl and yell at ppl what they should do and can't be civil. I listen and learn a lot better when everyone is cool. And I treat others the same.

Some ppl just don't have any patience and it makes things worse. Parties are about working together, not beating ppl down if they are having problems.

It was in the stone vigil. Team was mostly experienced and well geared, especially tanker - 2800 hp paladin, rest had 1900 life (including me). Tanker was doing very good pulls, mage was sleeping adds, monk - just dps.
At the first boss mage didn't dodge aoe - i thought she forgot the mechanics.
Before the second boss i pulled some threat, but did not heal myself (so tanker would take it back easier) - monk started casting Cure on me (150 healing).
Second boss, mage kept spamming Ice on boss, while monk managed cannons. I let tanker hp to drop to 40-70% before using direct heal, and used regen on the rest (when boss did aoe damage). Team hp was balancing between 40% to 80% most of the time, but mage and monk started to spam Cure and Physick on self - fight went slower, but we finished it. After the fight i used Cure II several times on monk, hoping he will see the difference between 150 and 1000 healing spell.
Before the last boss, that last room on the left with many adds - it is hard and sometimes even mostly experienced team wipes. Tanker went in and took melee adds, but did not flash ice elementals - one of them started attacking me, the other one went after the mage. I switched from tanker to cast regen on mage - tanker nearly died and joked about almost seeing the light. The second elemental still kept attacking me, so i repeated switch-regen combo on myself. Mage (still not at full hp) started self healing and said healer is her main and i should use Cure III (i did not want to tank the whole room, so i was holding my healing).
When the room was cleaned - i entered cleric stance and said if mage is going to heal - i am going to dps. Tanker pulled elementals x3, his hp dropped to 50% - noone healed him, so i left cleric stance and started healing again.
Last boss, i hoped now dps were going to dps and not heal. Tanker hp holds between 30% to 90%, after some time he starts occasionally self healing. Monk and mage didn't dodge boss aoe, so i used Regen to heal them (1050 potency = 1750 life healed over 21s). But they probably didn't understand how HoT works and started self healing again. I stopped healing them (only self and tanker), mage and monk finally self heal to full hp. Dragon goes to sky, mage didn't leave marked area and gets 1-shot from full hp, monk did't leave circle area and looses half of hp. Dragon lands, i cast Regen on monk, his hp slowly goes to full, mine and tanker hp are fine too, my mana is full - we are managing well without their self healing. I let mage to lie dead for a bit and revive her after the dragon goes to sky and lands for the 2nd time (still full mana + team is healthy).
Mage revives, but still do not dodge any aoe, after dragon goes to skies for the third time she again gets 1-shot by standing in blue area - i use SoS, revive her again, but at this moment monk uses lv2 LB - boss is dead, mage (not yet accepted revive) is watching the cut scene. Paladin thought i did not revive her and cast his own revive - she revives.
I left the instance and noticed i got 2 recommendations. At first team probably thought i am a terrible healer (i do mistakes too and it cost people lives), but i managed to show them i am capable of doing my role (in a rude way, but i could not think of any other way back then).
I have been through many situations when circumstances were against me (or someone) and i could not show people their prejudice, but this time it worked well and they changed opinion.

I know that I am just starting out in this game, but it offends me when DPS decide to self heal or heal others. Just because you were not my priority at the time, doesn't mean that I am going to let you die. I know that it's tough in a PUG because you don't know me, and for all you know I am afk, a noob, or are just not paying attention to or care about your hp. But when I gain aggro and spend mana to heal you and you beat me to it by .2 seconds, I just put myself and the team at risk by overhealing you and you spent time and mana that you could've used to end the fight. I understand that you may have rolled a healer and have cross class cure/physick and you want to make sure that you don't die, but everyone needs to play the role that they are in for that raid/dungeon/instance.

If you are in a PUG and you don't get the heal you need, then you can take that up with the healer in chat and find out what's going on. Communicate before you step on another player's toes so that the group can be successful.

...how did the Monk even have Cure? He doesn't cross class with Conj so either he was doing SV as Pugilist...which is pretty lame itself... =|
To be honest as DPS sometimes I wish I had a self heal, I'm very happy when I can pop a Second Wind, on both Bard and Monk. Healers not always are good, in Titan HM my Bard was just left to die more then once because wasn't healed for a long time. Once was killed by Geocrush because got to it with only 20%hp - and had been having them for a while and no healer wasn't just too busy. And second wind saved me several times but it's on long cd so...
And as a healer, I appreaciate much when dpses and tanks use their own defensive skills/selfheals. Sure if a Pal starts using Cure...makes no sense <.< Also considering how much of a useless skill it is without points in mind, would hardly make sense even if the healer is dead. But from a Summoner, if things are going bad, I would just be grateful cause it's extra help.

lxSch's and Kieren-Dohla's stories show that the problem is only "lack of communication", however even I happen to heal instead of HLR when I'm DPS. I don't want to steal someone's job or to show how he/she is supposed to play. If I heal, it's because I think HLR are having trouble keeping everyone up and running and I want to help. Just think about casting revive: if I'm busy healing a tank and DPSs every once in a while, switching target, maybe using Swiftcast and then Revive take a lot of time and things might go terribly wrong. If a DPS (SMN) can interrupt his / her attacks and revive someone instead of me well.... thanks! ^^

Whenever I'm in random farm content (think main scenario stuff) with one of those "OMG HEAL ALL THINGS ALL THE TIME REGEN REGEN MEDICA II" WHMs, I usually just stand back and let them get mobbed and killed. Then I laugh and a little and carry on.

I started healing in FFXI where -1- mis-timed Cure could get you killed. And woe be it to you if you used a Curaga when aggro was wishy-washy....

I did many runs with people not saying anything but 'hi' at the start and everything went fine, so i think it is the lack of knowledge, skill and experience first, and communication - second.

As for DPS/tanks that use their own heals, I see both sides of the equation. I play white mage, scholar, summoner, black mage and bard. So, I have healing and dps pretty covered.

Well, as a healer, when I'm doing a good job and getting everyone in proper time, it does bug the crap out of me when I see someone using their sad little cure/physick. Why? You've never been even close to dying? It's pointless and they should be spending that time DPSing the monsters.

However, there are also healers that suck. For example, last night I was playing bard in Brayflox. The healer, who was obviously full of himself as he kept trying to tell everyone what they should do and when they should do it, was really not healing very well for how much an ego he had. We got to the boss with the fire dragon (with the little mini dragon add that spawns) and everyone in our party almost died twice because he was just standing around. So, in those cases, yes I am gonna pop Second Wind.

It's all situational.
