I have to disagree, the game should do as little as possible to limit the choices the player has. The player then should be allowed to make the choices they want, with the choices they make having consequences.

Whoa, Whoa, Bro. Calm down. Maybe you should channel all that oh so serious energy into forming a new Nazi party in your area. I'm sure you will meet lots of like-minded people who share your desire to control the destiny of the masses and eliminate anyone who doesn't want to conform to your perceived rules of correctness. Afterall, life should only be lived one way, and that includes 100% efficiency in your MMO gaming (codeword for life's work in the case of some people...) Epic. Fail that is.
You all seem to have no earthly concept of the idea of conflict prevention.
Flying air force one over new york at low altitude for an unannounced photo op sounds just GRAND to you I bet.
You don't do things that inhrerently will create tension if you don't have to.
Encouraging people to wear substandard gear out to performance arenas will cause tension.
It is STUPID to cause tension when you don't need to. Tell me why a person has to wear the gear to attach to it. Really. Because it sounds better? Come on. Think.
No reason to cause this tension and conflict. It's intern decisionmaking that focuses on arbitrary logic and not the more important repercussions of the dynamic.
I know you want to wear your trash gear out to grind materia into. You'll show up to everything with it on. I just don't want to hear the ensuing conversation yellfest between you, who clearly doesn't care about performance and just wants everything at the same time, and some elitist who refuses to party with "gimps."
Are you looking for a fight? Sounds like it if you actually WANT materia gear (2nd rate gear) to have to be equipped. At that point, you're just trolling the people who demand performance and wholehearted play when you show up in a NQ chainmail.
Devs shouldn't even set you two against each other like that. I don't want to see that ****.
I don't want to see people screaming at each other because one is obviously using this party as a materia-farm and the other as a performance engine, and that CONFLICTS.
I also don't want to mindlessly grind materia in materia grind parties like some lame-ass skillup party.
Therefore, I do not want materia-attachment process to require equipping the piece.
There is no downside. You can equip it if you want. But you don't have to. No downside. You can not come up with a reason why you should have to wear the gear to attach to it past face arbitrary logic. My counter to that useless logic: MAGIC. There. Now you have zero excuse to not agree.
There is NO point in requiring attachment pieces to be worn. That is the same kind of "doing it because that's how it seems like it should be done" that creates 4/10 games. It encourages commonly manufactured pieces to be worn out to performance-driven events and that makes no sense.
This is an unbelievably simple argument, one which has no counter except stubborn mulishness.
You should not have to equip gear to turn it into materia. You should always be encouraged to use your best gear, there should NEVER be a downside to putting your best foot forward.
THAT is Final Fantasy. Not some stupid Oh well i have to choose between grinding materia and doing my best bull****.
Time to wake up and stop petitioning for medicore decisionmaking JUST BECAUSE.
Peregrine - the only issue I see is that you need a method to specify which piece of equipment you gain attachment to. I'm pretty sure we don't want a system where every piece of equipment in your inventory is gaining attachment. It should probably be limited to a specific single designated item, whether it is equipped or unequipped.
I agree, precisely why I was making my feelings heard about introducing more loading screens to 'compromise' for better zones. However your posts came across as though you were an elitist player yourself. The fact is, they perhaps don't want what gear you equip to be the most important thing in this game, as it was in FFXI. Maybe they want players to use a variety of gear to obtain materia just so that the game is more interesting.
Hell I don't even know if I like the proposed system, but come on... aren't you being more than a little harsh on it?
Pere, we dont know all the specifics. Hell It could be that we designate an item in our inventory as the item we want to earn our AP and it doesn't necessarily have to be "Equipped" on us just in our AP assignment. If this is the case it means we can only do one at a time though most likely which would help with balance.
Truth is, I am an elitist player myself. I just control my behavior in-game. If I'm 75% elitist, I only start yelling when someone is just overtly failing the task they were recruited to. There's a whole other league of people who will not tolerate people wearing frankly IKEA-quality gear to performance arenas, and will not only not tolerate them, they'll pick fights with them. Even if it doesn't matter much. It didn't matter much in FFXI either and people went NUTS.
I don't want to see it, and there's no reason to even present the two sides with each other's conflicting opinions. Best foot forward, always. No godammit that war is using his trial axe kick him.
I don't want to hear the ensuing debate on how one should or should not equip materia grind gear out to party in. I just don't want to hear it. There is no reason to even create a system where one needs to hear that.
