I am still against such drastic measures such as these. Why remove the synth help support? .... That I don't understand.
And why removal of most-all parts from many if not most synthesis instead of increasing amount of parts per synth according to rank?

I question their line of thinking, of removing content (no matter what it is) and replacing it with an easier system that is almost laughable to be connected to a class at all. We know that crafting has been given the back seat treatment, but so sneakily.
The least they could have done was offer up patch notes on the Materia system to perhaps, if at all, explain what it is they mean by all the simplification.
Just making one aspect of the game 'easier' on all scales isn't going to bring the game back to life after all, so hopefully everything they removed will be supplemented in the form of Materia, more customization options, and newer recipes to grind off of. New gear for different builds, and hopefully not the removal of all parts entirely.

Some are I admit redundant, but the difficulty of obtaining certain items (Like Great Buffalo horns) was a great thrill to see come in game. Much like in XI with the special thread to make a Vermy cloak.
But the patch notes just looked like one big kick in the rear, it does make me unhappy to see one of my favourite relaxing past times get shafted again. :/
But, lazy lazy lazy. It could have been handled much better.

Who's to say things like Great Buffalo Horn won't still be used in the recipes that previously required parts from them? The simplified recipe could just require the horn itself.

Honestly some of the parts were already pretty useless and ridiculous to require, like both halves of a shirt. Let's take Hempen Shirt (Brown) for example.

Front, Weaver R1
Back, Weaver R1
Sleeves, Weaver R1
Mole Brown Hempen Cloth, Weaver R10

Why are the pieces required to make the parts higher rank than the parts themselves? That's ridiculous. Or what about the Cavalry Bow (Archer R14) requiring a Carbon Fiber (Alchemist R38)?

I don't think they should have removed ALL parts but some things were only used for one item and never again. What with the new dye system all the fronts, back and sleeves would only be used for a single item and then just tossed to the wayside.

Is temporarily disabling the NEED (not removing it entirely) for support/treatises that big of a deal? I mean sure it makes little sense I'll agree but is it really that big of a problem? They've already stated they're considering alternatives at this point.

Secondary craft removal, I'm neutral on this one. I could see where it was good and its removal is strange but on the other hand, really not that big a deal. As someone leveling Armorsmith to actually make armor I welcome it though. It means I won't have to rank Leatherworker, Weaver, Alchemy and Carpenter to at least 35 just to make all the items available to Armorer. You'll still need the other crafts if you want to make the items needed from them for your current craft. It's not like you rank Armorer to R50 and now you can make every item in the game from every class. If you want that kind of self-sufficiency you still have to rank ALL classes to R50.

I'm all for the change, I was sitting with 4 retainers full, as well as 100/100 on my character.

That is why comparing it to SWG was a bad idea. However, i also find your comparison funny considering that FFXIV is anyways going under NGE whether you like it or not. The new dev team is making changes to all the core features of the game and that is the sole reason why they brought Yoshi in. What were you expecting? the new dev team will leave everything as it is and just put band aids here and there?

You find comparing it to SWG was a bad idea, because you misunderstood why NGE failed. It failed because Sony didn't bother to communicate with their player-base before banging the changes on their heads. It didn't fail because of it being change. Instead of getting all those promised casual into their game, they lost their then current player base and the promised newcomers never came.

FFXIV sorely need changes, but doesn't mean any change can be good, it can be worse.

I've nothing new to add to this thread but one more post couldn't hurt. ^^

No one in any of my linkshells are happy about this. I'm also dismayed that they can even think of changing the crafting system without so much as achnologing the monotony issues in grinding out rankups.

My points have probably been said already, and way, way more clearly.. but one more voice, right?

I don't like the changes. In my opinion, they're less overkill and more incomprehensible within the original intent of the system. They remove a lot of what's good about the crafting system in the game, and while what will remain will be equivalent to what some other games have, it'll do serious injury to the chances of the game having a dynamic economic system as it was supposed to.

Sure, argue that failed by now if you want, but removing all trace of that hurts what chance remains of us ever developing something like that in the future, too.

Look at the levels and the enjoyability of the mini-game, not the parts that allow multiple levels of trade and crafting. Otherwise we'll go from having the possibility of some day (when everything is fixed and improved) having something that faintly resembles EVE's awesome economic system, to.. well, we certainly won't get that this way.

Long ramble that doesn't really know how to explain itself aside, no, I'm not keen on these changes, either. Combine that with discovering they stealthily messed with Momodi's dialogue, and right this moment I've a pretty poor opinion on the dev team, to be honest. And here I was, just thinking they were done screwing up the things that the game did initially get right..

No, because of the fact that many of the things I really like about the game have thus far come under fire from them, and it looks like one more's in their sights now, too.

I'm not assuming they're terrible, and I'm sorry you read that in my post. I'm assuming they're changing what the system emphasises in a way that - while they may be good for a new set of priorities - I, personally, am not happy with.

Now, please bicker with someone wants to be bashed for expressing an opinion. I've said what I want to say, hopefully it'll lend a little weight to the side of the argument I favour, and that's that.

There are no opinions in these forums. Just a cesspool of whines and moans. Kinda hard to take this place seriously
