With the Egi design Square backed themselves into a corner with the Summoner. It would've been far easier from a pet balance and design stand point for Square to just give Summoner's the Primals at a 1/3 their size and power rather than the Egis.

I'd really would like to retain the current system to a certain extent. Each egi should have their specific specialty but they should be similar with their attacks:
Attack 1) Basic spammable attack by every egi with a twist (Garuda: Ranged but cast time, Titan: draws hate, Ifrit: stronger but close ranged, Levi: AoE, Ramuh: paralzye, Shiva: freeze)
Attack 2) AoE attack with a personalized effect (like now)
Attack 3) Egi speciality (Garuda: Knockback, Titan: increased def, Ifrit: bravery/faith, Leviathan: healing, Ramuh: def/mdef minus, Shiva: dispel buffs)
Attack 4) Specific spell that directly affects the attacks of the SMN (Contagion, Titan could reset the timers on Virus/Eye for an Eye, Ifrit empowers the current dots by x%)
Side effect by just having the egi summoned - Party wide buff to a certain stat ( Garuda: Skill/Spell Speed+, Ifrit: STR/INT+, Titan: VIT/DEF+, Levi: MND/PIE+, Ramuh: Resistance to status ailments +30%, Shiva: DEX/Parry+ )
When I thought of summoner I thought of Yuna from FFX or cloud from FF7 summoning Neo bahamut/bahamut Zero. In ff14 it's nothing.
The Primals and summons as defined in Final Fantasy are primordial gods that are the manifestation of their elements which means they are their attributes and qualities. In this context the Egis are the manifestation of the attributes and qualities of the manifestation of the attributes and qualities of their element which from a definition and design stand point makes no sense.
The class doesn't need the elemental wheel to work. There's literally TONS of ideas they could do, they just need to be even slightly creative instead of just going "we want DoTs."
I bet they are thinking of ways to go back to old Summoner without compromising the current gameplay of it now. It would be a crying shame to have to force all Summoners to relearn their class, maybe even hate it, just to satisfy people who want to see big flashy monsters show up once on the screen.
I expect something to change with new job skills at level cap increase.
Elements serve no purpose in XIV, having an element wheel would make zero difference.
Levi should be an aoe egi, shiva can be a buff or debuff egi or just an upgraded garuda, etc. Stop reviving old threads too.
And I've said it about 100 times but old summoner will not work in this game. Neither will XI summoner stop bitching about it.
The thread is still 100% relevant. The date doesn't matter if it's still a good topic of discussion, and an ongoing issue that SE is neglecting.Quote:

Based on what I've already said, you should know that I'm not asking for XI summoner. I'm asking for a class that resembles ANYTHING like old FF summoners, or at least follows the concept of a class that focuses on using its pet as a primary method of damage output. SE said from the beginning they knew they wanted to implement a DoT gameplay caster in ARR, and with everyone requesting Summoner, they decided to mash the two together to save themselves time and effort (solve two problems in one). It's lazy and a slap in the face to Summoner fans.Quote:

Even if they can't come up with their own gameplay style and design for a pet class, there are tons of MMORPGs that have executed the idea much better than this. Any one of those would've been just fine compared to this "warlock" style gameplay we got instead.
A true Summoner LB would be awesome.
Not the current caster LB (that is fitting for a BLM), but a Massive summoning for Summoner LB3 would be awesome, like the VII summons.
Well they already said they want to give each job their own LB animations... problem is I highly doubt it will be any different than meteor, simply a different animation (same damage, same mechanics, same area of effect, etc).
While this is nice (it makes no sense that I am casting meteor...) it still won't solve the other problems.
