Please do not lock Jobs to the Weapon Class that unlocks them.

I'm gonna give some explanations to my statement since I really hope SE doesn't listen to this request that has been over-publicized.

The following example is based on what we know so far with some speculation needed to fill the holes:


Thorontur hits Conjurer rank 30. Thorontur is really happy, because Thorontur is often left out of behest so it took considerable time to hit 30.

Thorontur now has access to the White Mage and Black Mage specialisations.

Thorontur can now continue to rank up Conjurer as WHM or BLM, or stay as CON based on situational needs or preference (specialisations don't rank up individually since they're specialisations of the main base class, they get skills/gears from quests and lock certain cross-class skills).

But Thorontur, pissed from missing a fifth behest in a row, decides to go rank up Pugilist.

If SE listens to this request, that means Thorontur can set Black Mage conjurer specialisation on his rank 1 Pugilist ?

That doesn't make much sense to me (and to Thorontur). He can already set Conjurer base skills on his Pugilist. The Black Mage skills and Artifact armor will prolly be exclusive anyway.


They're just giving an identity to the existing base classes, they're not creating completely new adavanced jobs à la FFXI.

Of course not. If jobs got unlocked at level 30, then obviously a class could only equip a job at level 30. So if THM or w/e else unlocked RDM at level 30, then I would have to get my GLA up to lvl 30 before I could use that RDM job with it.

Yah, jobs are giving an identity to the base classes. So if I want to identify my Gladiator as a Red Mage, then why would you want to impose a system that says only Thaumaturges can identify themselves as Red Mages, or vise versa.

in FFXI every job was "master of X weapon" but could use lots of them

example :

Samurai = master of G.K , however can use Polearms very well

DRK = master of scythe , can use GS very well

Whm = master of maces , however can use staffs

limiting jobs to 1 weapon is limting the "fun" ....

Thorontur will probably still be leveling CON after unlocking the WHM and BLM jobs, being that there's no indication of jobs being anything other than title augments with exclusive traits/abilities that Thorontur will be able to equip/unequip at will.

As for Pugilist specializing as Red Mage? Well why not? If you focus on the enfeebling side of RDM, then you have a "dirty fighter" class.

Yes allow class use wep that make sense to there job but the OP want that every job should be allow to use any wep in the game because he want to use his fav web with his fav job.

Meaning something like samurai using a white mage staff samurai using a GLD sword or something like monk using a G.K

I did not read all these pages of posts, but what I personally hope is that you need a certain combination of classes in order to unlock jobs, IE:

Red Mage needs Conjurer 10 and Tham 10
Do a quest once you reach the prereqs
Complete quest and unlock the Red Mage job

Dragoon needs Gladiator 5 and Lancer 15
Do a quest once you reach the prereqs
Complete quest and unlock the Dragoon job

But allow us to have what ever weapon we want on what ever kind of job we want.

I do think people are getting too caught up in theory about what they would like specifically.

From a realistic point of view, it only REALLY works flawlessly as a system is if they're specialisations of the current classes. Job-specific armour won't work any other way, and it'll kill the old-school job-uniqueness idea they're shooting for if you can equip any armour under any class.

It's not really a personal preference of method because it's probably not the most exciting thing they could do. However, I think it's just the most reasonable way of looking at it by far. A gladiator who specialises in being a Red mage loses the ability to wear armour that either augments the base class, or the job. Besides, a gladiator using red mage -is not- a specialisation anyway, it would only serve to make an even more watery unclear system than what we have now.

Actually the OP stated that he doesn't want Jobs to be locked only to the Class that unlocks them. Pretty much take this example:

Not all classes can use any job, but think of the jobs in FFXI and how many weapons they could use. Apply that system to the game and that would make sense. Better than one class = 1 job only. That would be just an advanced class n top of a class.
