Well good luck clearing Dusk Vigil with level 50 players who haven't finished the original class quest lines yet(not job, class)

New CASUAL players won't be rushing to get to max level and unlock all the content.
CASUAL players play mainly for the story.
People who have a problem with this are self-proclaimed Hardcore players who want to have access to the "real" content ASAP! Ignoring the fact that it's not all about end-game, this is not WoW.
"i have to rescue Aerith before i can leave Midgard and explore the world, like everyone else before me did" have not ruined FF VII. It is called story flow.
SE will not change the journey to Ishgard. They will only change the difficulty and the rewards someone get during the journey.
For some people IT IS all about end-game. Why should that bother you? Story isn't end all be all for EVERYONE. There is no "right way" to play an mmo it's personal choice. There are people that do nothing but crafting in this game and have put in massive amounts of time doing it. Is it fair that they are also locked out of new content? They have been playing just as long as you and definitely longer than me. Do they not deserve to see new content because they chose an off beat path but I do because i slogged through the story? Agian people are projecting how THEY think the game should be played and this is wrong. Obviously my views on this are not popular which is too be expected here but I'm just saying not everyone is going to be happy about this nor think its fair and I hope square is prepared for the backlash because believe me it's coming.
Oy... Another bleeding heart speaking 'on behalf of' new Heavensward players, with no idea what it will be like for them in contrast with yourself, and yet more than willing to put words in their mouths as if your experiences will be the same.
But I digress...
It is obvious the kind of MMO you want to play is a Sandbox.
Good luck finding what you want. Most Sandbox MMOs founder within the first year, because said model is extremely difficult to be successful. EVE is the extremely rare exception. But I personally would rather play XIV over such a disjointed community like that, any day.
XIV is not EVE, nor should it ever strive to be.
Just like you are. Oh, the irony.
No...no...no.
We're not talking about "nerfed content", like "But when i did it, Coil was very difficult, so why do new players, etc, etc...". We're talking about the most...basic...goal...of the game.
With your line of thinking, soon we'll see threads like "Why do I need to level up, I want to start at level cap already ?", "Why can't I teleport to all Aetheryte right away ?" or "Why do I have to spend gils to buy stuff ?"...
If people aren't even capable of doing this, it's a good thing they quit the game.
1) Those are not CASUAL players you so want to protect.
2) Those people need a Sandbox MMO, not a Themepark MMO, FFXIV is a story-focused themepark MMO.
PLOT HOLES!
As for people who just want to craft, once again, wrong choice of game.
It's made blatantly clear in the very beginning, that this game is story-focused and that you need to be a fighter class for a rather big part of the story.
Even getting to DoH/DoL requires you to do MSQ...
Can't believe people is still discussing this... this is a final fantasy, and a themepark MMORPG. Final fantasy players are used to content and areas locked behind the story, this is what people expect from the franchise, a free open world once you UNLOCK it, it gives you a goal, something too look forward.
I agree in one point about opening Ishgard without having to complete the 2.X story tho, when 2.0 launched SE promised we would be able to play the way we wanted, be it battling, crating or gathering, so in my opinion, crafters and gatherers should have an alternative way to access Ishgard through an high level quest that can only be cleared by a dedicated crafter or gatherer.
