Well they've mentioned the female roegadyn, as others have cited previously in this thread. We know where they come from and all that, it's not too much of a mystery lol.
Of all the things to not have, highland hyur female makes the least sense to me. The other Hyur clan has a female options, why not the other? It would be like if Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te had a male option but Keeper of the Moon didn't.

I partially agree with this idea.
First off, having male mi'qote are a BAD IDEA. You'd be stealing the gay race from elezens. Not to mention, it would gay up the whole server something fierce. I'm talking pride parades, rainbow-colored trees, etc., And no, I'm not against homosexuality at all, I just don't think it fits for this type of setting.
And don't go telling me I'm wrong, because you know, deep down, that I'm right.
The only reason anyone would play a male cat person like the ones in this game is because they're a flaming homosexual who wants to look "CUTE" for all his friends. My post might get deleted because some sensitive person will contact the mods and claim it's discriminatory, but I just want a game without rainbow trees and bass-beat dance bars. Is that wrong of me to ask? Really?
Now on the topic of female Roegadyn, YEEEAH! I am all for this, baby! Nuff said. Sign me up. I'm even all for female highlanders. As long as they're not manly women, and still curvy, I'm in favor of a system that is awesome like this.

Pointless to say now I guess but I still wish they had designed entirely new race designs instead of using XIs. Other RPGs published by square did a great job of filling all the usual, human, tall skinny race, bulky race, tiny race ect stereotypes.

Male Mi'quotes and especially female Roegadyn would probably take a major designing effort not to look completely off and ridiculous. I'd rather see the team's artists at work on content that can be enjoyed by everyone (areas, equipment and so forth), than to satisfy some extremely picky individuals that can't be happy with the already wide and varied selection of races/genders we have now (and I bet most just out of principle. Bet that many that clamor for the addition of those genders wouldn't even roll one).
On the other hand female highlanders should be considerably easier to design (beautiful women who are also athletic and muscular exist in real life, as opposed at catmen and wolfwomen, so the character design process would be considerably easier and faster), so I'd be all for adding them. -

I'm feeling the same way Cairdeas is. As a female player I sorely miss the stronger female Elvaan from FFXI. Not only did they look like they could kick your butt while retaining their femininity, but there was an air of shrewdness about them. I realize that the cute wafe-like style is popular among men and women, boys and girls alike...but for those who enjoy stronger presentations of the fantasy theme, where is our good time? I've recreated my character a dozen times and would readily play a female Highlander (they are the closest thing to "ethnic" and I am black, so that could be a fun option) or a female Roegadyn. It is true that when a player can not connect to their character, they simply set the controller down or back away from the computer desk.
As for male Miqo'te, who could complain about that? Some variance on the basic human form would be a welcome sight in male character options. It's always fun to play the juxtaposition between strong males and small but determined females, especially in the world of Final Fantasy where size doesn't actually seem to equate to strength; But at the bare minimum I want my character to appear competent. -

03-15-2011, 03:54 AMNatabantwell first off what i meant by "on the side" was that, from what the original director said, that they were done with the design of both male miqote and female roegadyn (dont know about female highlander, but i think that was in an interveiw also), so i would guess the only thing they "didn't have the manpower" to do before was the programming part for gear, weapons, etc. So i honestly dont think it would take that much "manpower" to slowly TRY and impliment the extra genders for the races. And second, the "very limited niche" ur talking about has been asking for male mithra/miqote and female galka/roegadyn since the beginning of FFXI, and its not just a few people, its quite a bit. If you don't want the extra race genders that's fine, it's your choice to like what you want, but alot of us wouldnt mind a little bit more variety. One of the main reasons i want the male miqote, female highlander, and the female roegadyn is because i don't like when any game makes single gender races, especially if they exist in the world/lore.Quote:

I think what Otemori was trying to convey when talking about "Noodle" was how the Female elvaan were much broader and sturdier looking then Female Elezen. Female Elezen are very waif like, thin dainty flowers and do not poses the same awe inspiring proudness and strength that their Elvaan Cousins do. This mostly because they did humanize them more, making the body shape more inline with human proportions instead of maintaining the wide girth of hips and long strong arms and necks..

The Elvaan were plenty fantastical, but they also commanded a presence in both male and female form. I do not think that, as Abriael implied, fantasy negates the necessity for a variety of character presentation. Female characters seem to satisfy only an exaggeration of a European/Asian archetype.
