Wow the NA threads have the most useless topics. You think glowing weapons will make this game any better? They are an eyesore like in every other game with glowing weapons. Lantern shield is ok because you can barely see it.
haha that actually made me laugh. well even if i am just a 42 pug, eventually there should be somethings out there that look a little more magical. not that it should be my gear, but it should be in there somewhere. To be honest i probably wouldnt be using most of the flashy stuff, all the trim and refinery aint my style, but it does fit some peoples charachters.
but i would go for some burning fists, aura hands though i cant even lie.
When people mention Glowing weapons, many people picture this:

or this:

Which yes, these are my characters, and the second picture is only about 5 minutes into the game and I already have a stupid glowing weapon.
I do not want this type of glow. In fact, I don't want any type of glow.. Just add in some really unique designs, like make an Ice Sword that looks like it was made of Ice! something that doesn't look so cheesy like too many other games.
Okay okay, I get it. I'm sorry.
Fixed.
that is what they are talking about. Or some rare weapons having an afterglow effect. Like it leaves a trail of fire when they swing it. Not that you'll get these weapons early on in the game. People need to take into consideration what they are talking about. It's not going to be copied from another game, but made to fit this game.
I can see that with the enspells, similar to how they did it in Dragon Age:Origins, or provide the effect only when it is swung to show that it is more a magical enchantment than "Blades of fire".
Though I can get behind blades on fire/red hot steel as an en spell.
Most of the community doesn't have that kind of faith in SE, nor other members for that matter. You have to remind everyone what they are talking about more than half of the time, because everyone has different ideas in their heads.
Most importantly, everyone has to be on the same page, we dont want that WoW glow, but we want something that makes certain weapons stand out, whether they are rare, or common weapons, they just need to be diverse.
Id just like to point out to all those "Glow" haters, there's much more than glow that are visual effects that can be used for weapons.
It dosent have to be WoW related & with intense glow. (cuz some of glow in there are too much)
Tiny sparkles, smoke, heat, frost, distortion visual effects (even if small / tiny)
Id love to whip up some artwork to show you but im so tired from my daily work im not even gonna bother.
But i do suggest SE plays with the idea of implementing some (not all) weapons & gear with some badass looking visual effects.
Crystal Sword... dosent need to glow, some glass-reflective visual representation. (sword is just an example)
Frost sword... chilled vapor emiting from swords blade, faint crackling sound.
Skull staff... heat vapors / colored smoke comin out of the eye sockets slowly then fades out, repeat.
(the color itself could represent wich elemental status the staff has for example)
Blood Shield... slowly dripping blood shield.
- I really like the design of the "Bullhead" shield (forgot its name), but it would look much cooler if
some smoke came out of the nose, like its going wild, ready to charge.
Lantern shield looks cool but feel useless for a mage.
Anywayz, it's just some ideas, i wish i could show you.
Have faith, dont ignore imagination.
- Sorry for any missed typos >.<
Needless to say that Magitek does exist, otherwise I would point out that SE would be more focused on how that steam would be coming out of the bull, you know, the inner mechanics of these armors and weapons.
In other words, there would have to be some elemental affinity to these items to add certain effects, or else it probably wouldn't make too much sense. For example, adding the Fire Element to that Shield could be plausible to the shield emitting that steam.
Show me a FF game that has weapons that glow (outside of special attacks) and I'll consider throwing my weight behind the concept.
Until then, I am staunchly opposed to it.
Even if they DID implement it (God forbid), who here would like to see glowing weapons for any rank below 90? This is a topic for years down the road, not now. SE has better things to worry about.
well i can cast fire using my staff wand, there dosent seem to be any mechanic on how thats even possible, we simply call it magic.
Same thing with the shield, it would be considered magic, enchantment or infusion, w/e they like to call it.
Much like myself, im an artist i can paint, design etc...idk why i can do this & many others cant, i just can...
Some claim... it's in your blood, some say its a gift... and some say genetics, to me it dosent matter much, i just accept it as it is.
I hope this made some sense to ppl. ^^
Actually, no other FF game i've played has had anything glowing. But the example I gave of FFX, Tidus's Brotherhood.. that is how these weapons should be like.
I, too, am an artist, and am in much respect to the art of Akihiko Yoshida. This is why i feel a need to defend my Yoshida. When it comes down to making his designs all glowy, it needs to be done in Akihiko Yoshida's fashion. Rather, Yoshida needs to think of the concepts of how the glows will work.
FFXIII comes close. When you cast an enspell (e.g. Enthunder) on another character, that character's weapon glows with the color of the element.
Since FFXIV & FFXIII use the same engine, it's not unreasonable to think that the Development Team can add a similar effect without having to re-invent the wheel.
However the case, I would rank something like this around [dev2999] on the Development Team's priority list. This is not something that will likely cause a storm of rage-quit to occur.
Some glowing weapons as if there were a few leds in them.. = good..
Glowing weapons as lightsabers.. Lineage 2 weapon enchantment style.. = bad..
eveyrthing shud be on fire and everything shud glow in da dark cos dat is wat wud make this game fun gameplay wise
i dont fink i cud be any more smarter if i tryed
As long as the glow is limited to something like the element of the weapon (IE: Fire based weapons have a flame paticle effect, ice have a blizzard/frost particle effect, etc.) I won't mind, though I don't want them to go overboard on it.
If our synthesis in game can glow, why not weapons? I say bring on the bling!
I would only take a glowing weapon system if it was logical. If they added enspells, like enfire for example, the sword would have a fire outlay or do fire damage while the enspell was effective. Maybe weapons that had a proc on it certain types of damage would change when the effect procs
I do not want constantly glowing weapons, the lantern shield makes sense because there's a candle in it. I just want logically reasons for it if it does go through.

yall need to keep in mind they arent going to execute it the same way as other places, art direction is art direction.
I share this view. Earlier on I put forth the example of how some weapons or enhancements in Final Fantasy X would add a small elemental effect to your weapon, or some weapons already had them applied. It could just be for special legendary "relic" weapons, or just really rare items in general. It doesnt have to be WoW style neon glowing. Or even something similar to the enspells in Final Fantasy XIII.
A game is not fun unless our weapons were designed by Thomas Eddison
Fairly sure FF games dont contain glowing weapons. Only one i can think of is Ultima Weapon from FF7. And that didnt really glow persay. Lets keep FF14 a Final Fantasy Game worthy of the name. If you want glowing weapons go play wow imo. You can even jump there too!
Honestly I don't see why final fantasy has to be put in a box and confined to only what it's done previously. I think glowing weapons or armor would be a nice touch if done right. I'm not saying super-neon, but I don't think a light touch of glow to an elemental weapon would hurt and would certainly look cool.
Well the egg helms resemble enlarged Fabergé Eggs, which are items you might imagine denizens of Uldah to posess. It's only natural that someone should decide to wear one upon his or her head. It might not be very fetching from a fashion standpoint, but it's not aesthetically displeasing.
I think a high-voltage robe of light would kind of throw me off, and would make me lose a little respect for the low-key atmosphere of FFXIV.
I think some of you guys failed fashion class at school.
I think some of you went to some fairly crummy schools if they had to fill up the curriculum with things like fashion class.
I'd personally quite like to see glowing effects very occasionally in armour, and reserved only for the better stuff. for example seeing a couple of shards of aetherite glowing on a weapon would be pretty neat. As well as that, if we're getting a materia system in the future it would be pretty cool if some weapons and armour had visible materia slots (pretty unlikely, and also they'd have to be fairly small) that would glow slightly.
But yeah, very rarely. We don't all need to be walking christmas trees like certain other games.
The latern shield is a perfect example of a glowing piece of equipment done right. The first time I saw one I was " OH, what's that?" The glow is not overpowering yet adds individualism to the equipment. Even a small glow from a pendant on body piece would add something original to the piece yet maintain the overall look of the game.
