Just got my bard soul :)
I have a question for fellow archers/bards: has anyone found if we get a mount like the CNJ unicorn? I haven't run across it in questing yet, was wondering if anyone knows.

Glad to be a new member of the Bard community!
And finally, after struggling and pain... BARD!
Btw, info for all: Luciane's lvl 30 archer quest is before Luciane's lvl 30 job quest. So if you can't see the Bard quest, maybe you simply need to finish that first.
Bard to be checking in.
So based on the profiles of everyone checking in, does this mean that bard is indeed 30 ARC/15 COJ and not PUG?
Checking in! The BRD quest was quite interesting, next step = AF gear.
Finally got the Forums to let me log in. Sadly I spent this time leveling CNJ after I got my archer leveled a bit. Guess I spend the next few days leveling PGL now. Going to miss my Cure.
Yeah, PGL is what we need, good to know for sure.
sigh :( just right after I leveled up my cnj... so disheartening... I really don't like PUGs T__T oh poop! But I guess anything for bard.
Wohoo Lvl 15! Should I take Arch to 30 first or start PUG?
Well, since the main story brought me to Ul´dah at level 16 I figured I might as well get started on the PUG part of the bard. With the 50% exp bonus you get when leveling another class it took me a little over an hour to get to level 11. So I guess it will be maybe another hour or two before I reach level 15. Of course I have no idea if it was the right/most efficient thing to do. Maybe it would have been better to wait until I was at least lvl 20 in ARC before switching. But I was in Ul´dah. The PUG guild was in Ul´dah. It was like fate brought us together...
Level 38 bard, and enjoying it!
However, can someone list at what level you get what songs? So far all i got is 1, Ballad, which was level 30. Was kinda hoping for more songs already. The random FF14 wikis and fansites list certain songs at certain levels, but i havent got'em at the level they have listed.
You get Foe Requiem at lv35, just talk to the Bard NPC near Quarrymill. I'll assume you get one every 5 lvls.
I just went to the Quarrymill. Nobody to talk to there. No quest or anything.
With every job, you open a new quest every 5 levels to get a new skill.
You get 1 skill when you unlock the Job at 30, then you open another quest for a new skill at 35/40/45/50.
As far as I know, you have to do these quests in order, so maybe there's one you missed at the Archer's Guild in Gridania?
I believe I read that you get an exp bonus that scales based on how many levels your highest class is above any secondary classes.
So for example, if you had a level 15 and went back to a level 1, you'd get a 50% exp bonus. But if you got your main to 30 before swapping, you'd get a 100% bonus.
If that's actually how it works (and someone feel free to correct me if it's not), then I would say it's probably in your best interest to stick with archer to 30 unless you find yourself having trouble leveling.
If you find yourself having trouble leveling, then you can level Pug just to 8 for the heal or Lnc just to 2 for the slow to help you continue leveling archer to 30 before going back for your secondary.
Thank you, I will take PUG to 8 since with exp bonus stuff all around it should be fairly quick.
Im enjoining the brd for now ( lvl 38 and going up ) , it's basically a dps whit some utility , namely mage's ballad , you'll act as dps , while you keep your song up , and it's pretty usefull till now , up to cutter's cry i've been having fun , while my healer , and mage keep pleasing my for the song .
Sure , i 'd like to have a more of a supportive role like secondary heal or buff/debuff , but i still find it funny , and i guess bard we will have their safe multiple spot later on on raids .
We'll see how it evolve :)
I finally unlocked bard :D I leveled PUG to 15 first, and then focused on getting ARC to 30. The level 30 quest was a bit rough and I died the first time lol :( So glad it's done and now I can finally get some sleep!
Ok so Archer -> Bard is the only option, or is there another direction an Archer can go?
nope

First time Bard here.
Do you keep the songs up all the time ? only boss fights ? any example of when you should be singing nothing ?
Thx
There really isnt a point to songs in 4 mans before 50, maybe besides reducing elemental resistances but since your role is more of a DPS in a 4man, the 20% damage reduction is a huge hit :(
Bard is amazing.
- Good dps.
- Kiting lets you solo mobs much higher leveled than you.
- Glorious long range.
- Our songs offer more to the party than just dps.
- Access to second wind. Our high crit rate allows for the heal to critical often.
- If the tank does die, you still have a chance to finish the fight by kiting.
Bard here. Spiky fun damage. I only really use songs if we desperately need them. Mostly swift song between battles so far.
None of the encounters so far have been difficult enough for the healer to even get low on mana. I'm sure that will change eventually.
What else can we unlock with archer? BLM?
Hello all, soon to be Bard here. Very excited!
The other day i saw an archer circle kite a fate boss very well, while shooting. I tried kiting a few times on regular enemies, but i'm unable to grasp the "trick". every time i try to kite in a circle, as soon as i do a skill my character faces the enemy and starts walking straight into them. This is with Keyboard/Mouse btw.
Can anyone throw a few pointers? I'm sure this is a skill that I should try to learn in order to take advantage of this class. Thanks in advance!
You have legacy mouse/strafe binds set in place? Should be fine, strafing away is faster than directing retreating so keep that in mind when moving.
I've been seeing this macro floating around, and figured I'd share and ask for opinions on it:
/ac "Bloodletter" <t>
/ac "Misery's End" <t>
/ac "Heavy Shot" <t>
Seems good to map, allowing you to use whichever ability is off CD, order dictating priority. I may change the order of Misery's End and Bloodletter, just because I prefer opening w/ Bloodletter when doing fates/hunting logs/chain kills. What do you guys think?
Under keybinds you want to reconfigure your turn left turn right keys to strafe instead
Then set mouse to legacy type(forget where this is but it is an option), what this does is allow you to always face your enemy while moving freely. You just have to get used to using a mouse as a primary directing tool for your character and using keys for hotbar actions. For a Bard/Arch I highly recommend making then jump.
Thanks Neon, i'll give that a shot!
42 Brd, Been having a blast, really excited to get some AF, anyone have information on those quests yet?
just hit 50 on my bard on gilgamesh
really loving the mix between archer and bard ^^
dps and musics
So does bard require pugilist or conjurer as a subclass?
