Release Date for ARR always told not before April/May 2013... January/February only Beta.
July instead of Spring not so far away. We can still play with FFXI :p
Spoiler: ARR takes place 5 years in the future. That means it will be released 5 years after 1.0 goes down. :P
I was under the impression (I can't quite remember where I got this impression, though) that it isn't 6-months real-time in game but rather several years in the future, and that we're being awoken from some sort of slumber.
I could be entirely wrong. Again I don't recall where I got that impression. I do recall one of the promo videos, specifically the one we did for the voice-over contest, talking about the bravest among us being "spared" -- that doesn't suggest we survived by freak accident, though I'm not sure how the survival happens in specific.
You know what's worse than the FUDmongers? The people constantly talking about the FUDmongers. Look, to be quite honest, I don't think the supposed "FUDmongers" are what you think they are. I think they are just people who are being cautiously pessimistic for a reason.
Optimism: Prepare for the best, but be constantly disappointed when things comes up short.
Pessimism: Prepare for the worst, and perhaps be pleasantly surprised by reality on a frequent basis.
I'm typically cautiously pessimistic, so I get where people are coming from when they talk about longer time-frames. I'd personally rather assume the game is coming out in July 2013 and have it arrive in March, but at least if it doesn't arrive until later, I'm not terribly disappointed.
Realistic expectations.
Breladine, don't bring rationalism in here, people may get the wrong idea it's ok to not be on either side of the fence :3
You must not be very familiar with the history of this forum, and with the posting history of certain individuals that do absolutely nothing else than hating on the game and on its development team.
it's not surprising that they'd dive on this crapola like vultures trying their hardest to pump it up as fact.
As a matter of fact I don't have "expectations" on a release date, but as one that does the job he does, I learned to distinguish between an unsustantiated rumor with zero credibility and a source that can hold some.
This belongs to the first type.
Mods let it happen, it's gonna happen.
She's been around long enough and been in enough of certain topics to see the difference and actually thinkinig rationally about things rather than...
ahem.
Throwing people into categories based on personal beliefs. You know, the "certain individuals" doesn't go around telling posters their opinions, thoughts, speculation or feelings are "unimportant" and "means nothing" oh! and "lack logical sense."
It's quite funny how the ones you claim as the "FUDmongers" are the ones you're usually attacking most of the time.
Anyone with game development knowledge would know the the past decade development cost and time has nearly tripled and that it's pretty common for things to take awhile to get released as well as a company pulling departments together to push out something.
Subsidiaries are usually the ones that get brought into the main house for a project, the way SE is setup it just makes it sound worse than it actually is.
If they plan on having a terribally terribally long downtime before 2.0 launch... I hope they let everyone that was able to play in october into the Beta, and that data cross-over into launch.
To many things contradict this July release date in my eyes.
1) No ANC at launch
2) A lot of stuff they are holding back for after the game releases/ too many things might not make it @ release.
3) Still not a creditable source or any popular websites has reported this as some news for FF 13vs cause anytime there is legit FF 13 news it usually pops up on some gaming website.
Development cost and time have nothing to do with it. The kind of professional figures required to develop a MMORPG and a single player action RPG are only partly overlapping. The idea that the whole FFvXIII team has been put to work on a MMORPG is ludicrous, because besides a few exceptions the only ones that would be able to transition seamlessly to the new game would be artists, sound designers, writers and the like.
The FFXIV team was never short on those, and it's ludicrous to argue that Square Enix just put everyone else in a limbo waiting for the project to resume.
Something of that scope would have reached the Japanese press (that has very strong contacts at SE) way before it reached a random pole on twitter.
You didn't bother reading what I typed then. Again, I did NOT say what the source provided was factual information. The facts that I were talking about were that SE has not given us a release date for a reason, we don't have dates for how long alpha will last or when phases end or begin, and no date on the beta.
I haven't said that the source stated factual information. This is what I meant by "You won't see what you don't wanna see".
I agree with the fact we never got a release date to begin with and we already know SE has a habit of delaying things. So to flatout deny the game being release later than people hoped is just being in denial. SE has went on record to state they'll release it when they feel it's ready, people are holding onto the Jan-March time frame dearly even though SE has never stated that was the launch time frame.
What if SE felt the game wouldn't be ready until the 3 year anniversary? I bet people will happily accept that date simply because SE stated it, despite the fact September =/= March.
The game could release in 2014 and there's still stuff that won't make it in at release. Every MMO that releases stagger content updates and content at launch for a reason, it's not because they didn't make any/enough content, it's because it's being staggered to make patches more relevant beyond bug fixes.
I don't think you read into what I said, I will repeat it one more time. In this topic, which is to clarify if some random rumor from an uncreditable source is valid. It clearly isn't, and you defend it saying it is when there is so many holes in the statement. Almost no one agrees with you that this is valid.
On the topic of delays. I don't know where your arguments come up here. I don't know if a delay will happen as much as you do, but the only thing that can be said about it is that "It is possible".
all links on first post broke, there any others?

So, how can XIV affect other projects for SE if..it's just "the XIV team" working on it and no one else in SE is bothering with it? Resources being moved to XIV also includes team members. Even outsourcing work could mean they put work loads on other teams that are within SE's subsidiaries.
Can look around a bit, since the twitter links were actually reposts to begin with.
want to know wahet the release date is well when se feels it meets their expectations and is decent enough to release i have another game to pass the the time one thing i noticed with arr is most of you want it now like yesterday or if they dont youll quit playing ff14 well then please do heck they can delay it till q4 2014 is they want to and it be a better 14 so if they rushed this then it will be 14 version 1 all over again and most of us dont want that again
The people who forget about it will be alot less than the new people it will bring in at the time. And because everyone just seems so attached to their characters and friendships in this game, the people who will actually forget about the game is quite small.
People who say they will forget won't. It's just their way of venting and hoping that their words will hurt SE.
I mean look, people are still holding on to vsXIII.
FFXI is as terrible as the discussion over a validity of this rumour.
Except the rumor also stated people were moved from other teams onto XIV.
Too bad there's a difference between cancelling a project and something being affected. Oops. I also don't recall stating something was scrapped or stopped because of the move. Oops.
