Maybe if you're starting from the last lvl cap and only have a few lvls to go, sure.
If you're new however: It takes 1,894,800 exp to go from 30 to 99, so across 20 jobs that's 37,896,000 exp. Assuming you're in an average party getting 100k/hr, that's 378 hours of nonstop exping 24/7. So just over 2 weeks if you never ever log out and are always exping. That's not taking into account that you still need to grind to 30, adding additional time required.
The term "Maw" doesn't have to mean Atomos, if you look at the art work for other incarnations of Atomos they all look similar, just better graphics, as technology improved, yes there are other differences but you can see where its roots came from. The quest and Atomos may not just be a coincidence but he was brought into the game as Atomos, not a Maw, also if you talk about "The Maw over Bluefog" there is a good chance that none FFXI players know what you are talking about.
Atomos has something to do with going back or forward in time?
it will be part of one of the new mini missions:
- "Monster of Maw Most Massive"
in the trailer we can see that Louisoix is saving our lifes with sending us into the future.. does this thing maybe has anything to do with it? storywise? well, lets see
in german the quest is called something like "hell's mouths/maws high in the sky" (Höllenschlünde hoch im Himmel) (sorry dont know which definition fits perfect for that)
and if i look at that picture, it seems to come from the sky. (ok dalamud also^) but in the english version its described as a monster and in german the quest description says that it is high in the sky.
As a 3 day player, I have no idea what any of this means but hey all the excitement in the thread must mean its a good thing, so woop! :p
From The Final Fantasy Wiki: Lunar Curtain.
On Final Fantasy Wiki en Español they tell that Lunar Curtain ("cortinas lunares" on the site) is a must against Atomos on Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls...
My first thought when I see the maws would be that when 2.0 comes out, you can use the maws to visit the 1.0 version of the game. Wouldn't that be ... something?
So many people complaining about class stacking which hasn't even occurred yet. Why don't you guys just level them all so you can be versatile instead of crying for 2+ years? You have had time. Everyone should at least have one tank, one ranged dd, one melee dd, and whm
Hmm
New weather is coming
Atomos is coming
In FF V Atomos attacked with meteor rain
so is it going to rain meteors now ? :O
While the job system is awesome in this game, people don't always want to play EVERY class. As it is, I'm forced to go on a class I don't enjoy nearly as much as another most of the time.
That's not even going into the pains to gear up a class adequately, which also takes time, money, and investment. None of us want to try content in full AF, and some content requires several double/triple melds.
The only way to defeat Van Darnus Hard Mode...

Will be to ride your Goobbue!
Atomos is the Primae of the garlean empire??! maybe?
and we will see in which region atomos is goint to spawn, when the weather changes to meteor rain... but bleh, thats just an assumption^^
well in the first trailer it was louisoix who send us forward in time? wasnt it?
but he is the one studying the Primaes?
no.... no.... just no... >.>...
Atomos is traditionally a gravity based summon, his ability being G-Force 199, and it sucks everything into his mouth. Now in FFXI I expect SE went with the idea of a black hole and a lot of sci-fi saying if you travel into the gravity well of a black hole you will be transported to another dimension/time, which is why Atomos sent us into the past in FFXI, now we know thats not true, theoretically we could travel in time if a wormhole and both ends at the same point in the universe, but at differant time periods, and bam you can see how Atomos works in FFXI, putting old fiction and theorized possibilities we have a mix that links Atomos and time travel for FFXI.
Yes he could be involved in the quest but that doesn't make him a maw, the maws are Atomos in FFXI, but they have been called maws since release. FFXIV Atomos has been called Atomos since these patch notes and nothing else, calling him a Maw will confuse none FFXI players.
Here's how it all played out in FFXI
In FFXI in WotG Atomos is the Distorter of Time. Has the ability to devour and change space time. As the WotG story goes in the real Vana'diel timeline the Crystal War never ended the world fell into ruin. What players play in is the alternate Vana'diel and to them this is the real world. Because the crystal war never ended the Goddess Altana created the Cait Siths to awaken Atomos and devour the world of ruin, ie the evil Vana'diel, so that a peaceful one could take its place. Well the evil forces did not like the idea of being devoured and destroyed. Lady Lilith being the leader of the evil side. When Atomos began the process of devouring the ruined Vana'diel the canverous maws appeared in both realities connecting them. Allowing people from both worlds to travel back and forth. At this point the forces of good and evil fight for the fate of Vana'diel which is the WotG story missions. You have Lilisette who is good and her evil counterpart Lady Lilith.
You people and your far-fetched assumptions.
If this new hard mode fight is as retard proof as Garuda Hard, then nobody on my server will be beating it anytime soon.
I hope people find a solid strategy that doesn't require a party full of DL Relics
so why bother with the hard mode fight if he doesnt drop anything good
Really, just really? Is this what Final Abyssea XI, and WoW have brought people to, they need super awesome gear from an easy fight for it to be worth doing.
Can I blow you mind? Well I'm going to....... Maybe people want to have... crap I forgot the word, lemme think for a bit.
Ok I got it FUN!!!
