SE really hates people's money it seems.
I no longer live in the country I was living in when I made my account so I can't change it. (Same region however, just hopped one border over). I just tested it now and if you have the steam version of the game, you can pay with your steam wallet with zero issues despite the address on the account being my old residence.
My friend had issues with mog station (US) forcing him to update address. I had to use real US address to fix it. It works for now...
Sub renewal in 2 days. Will update if I bump into issues. Both of us from Malaysia.
My friend's Visa Debit card which is attention to his subscription went through perfectly fine today. Mine renews the 5/15 and I haven't touched the card or any of the info for my sub payment for years, so crossing fingers it goes through ok.
Amazon pay/paypal/visa debit card I had issues with today and only thing that seemed to work for me was buying a timecard on Amazon. I tried every method/fix to try to bypass issues and time cards seem to only work for me for now.
My Visa card is still getting rejected.
Yep. And even if you have a card that is both Carte Bleue and Visa, it won't work. Customer support just confirmed this to me.
This is incredible. Business people at SQEX can't possibly be happy with this either, because as a rule you never want to make people jump through extra hoops to pay you (since it gives people more opportunities to reconsider).
I buy crysta with my visa debit via amazon pay. It's kind of roundabout, but it's easy enough.
It's also not entirely out of the blue for Square. I even wrote the support after the first announcement of the payment change and asked them to keep SEPA because it's very common here for online trading etc. Only got a generic response, just said they appreciate the feedback, cannot guarantee implementation but are forwarding it to the appropriate party. And I'm sure I wasn't the only one asking about reconsidering their local common non-credit card option. Guess this appropriate party said "nah".
I've cleared my cache and cookies. I was able to change my subscription type without error this time, but I won't know if it actually goes through till I'm billed in about 60 days. Mog store purchases still don't work for me- I wonder if subs and store purchases are using separate parameters to charge customers.

To answer to the thread's question.
My FC, my friends and I (up to 10 people) are all living in France and we aren't planning to play until they work this out.
For sure, we could just go on PayPal to create an account, add some money each month, buy crista regularly to buy in game time.
Or, they do something to allow us to use our debit/credit card, because that workaround is just tiresome.
Instead, we'll wait for 8.0 to be announced, subscribe for a month and rush through the content.
Personnally, that situation saddens me a lot, for the past three years, I haven't unsubscribe, not even once.
And from what I saw, Square Enix don't seem to care that much.
But who knows, they might come to their senses and fix it.
Only time will tell.
I agree that paying for the game shouldn't be that difficult. I don't see why they had to alter the way payments were processed but didn't offer us the chance to at least modify the billing information's country. Give us the ability to add billing information, where we can match the payment method we are using with the correct country, if we are unable to change the country on the registered account. I'm hoping this gets fixed soon.
Update for my payment issues:
Today, I decided to try again to see if anything had changed.
- My Visa debit is still invalid
- Using Paypal is now accepted and no error i2501 pops up
- Cancelled my Paypal transaction and redo it again to make sure it really is working, and it does work after the 2nd try
- Was able to Sub using Crysta.
- Did not try to buy anything in Mogstation using Crysta/Paypal
Although this is now addressed, it would still be preferable if we could add bank transfers or even use our own debit cards. The inconvenience for paying customers would be reduced.
I just got charged. No problems for my Visa credit card.
I'll throw in my two cents.
Nothing has changed for me, but I guess that's because I've always used a 3rd party to pay for my sub as my preferred payment method (iDeal) is not directly available for XIV anyway.
That being said, I pay through Steam which does give me the option to use iDeal as a payment method so I'm good. Same for all the optional purchases I make, Steam payment has been a lifesaver for me, I'd have a lot of issues paying for sub and stuff otherwise. But it's probably not an option if your account isn't linked to Steam (or so I guess), so it's most likely not a valid alternative for those who lost their preferred payment method.
Either way, I hope SE can figure this out soon so everyone can pay comfortably and without having to resort to roundabout ways of doing it.
My ongoing sub (normal sub +1 retainer) was renewed tonight despite the payment method (SEPA) not being supported anymore, so at least that part of the announcement worked out for me. Wasn't sure because other people reported a very different experience. I haven't tried getting anything from mogstation yet, because I'm afraid this will break anything. I'll make an attempt and report the outcome once my new Visa Debit card arrived. Considering how many people here have issues with Visa Debit, this feels kind of like a lottery if it works or not. xD
Customer support confirming this is quite scary to be honest, either they didn't knew how much CB was a thing in France or they don't care...
By the way, if you use an online bank in France, you will have a non CB cards and some are free as long as you pay something once per months. That's what I'm planning to do if I got a problem with my automatic resub...
If it wasn't for the automatic monthly subscribe, I couldn't have sub since 30/04... If it continue to work, I can stay subbed until 2026 but any problem with the automatic sub and I'm out... I know someone who doesn't have this chance and can stay subbed only until a few months. (Not even until 7.1.) So we are looking for an alternative right now. Online banks seems a good idea for the moments.
And yeah, my whole FC also have the same problem but we're all in automatic so we stay in a state of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."...

I'll (exceptionally) buy some crysta for a month and leave the game for good if this shit show hasn't been dealt with.

I pay with the same VISA Debit I've had on file for years. No issues. Just went through this week. I haven't purchased anything on Mogstation since the change and don't plan to because it will force you onto the new processor and create problems.
