I agree that seeing shouts for it nearly every time I'm in a city state is a bit... much. 9 times out of 10 its for some "18+" events. I thought the solution was relegating that to the 'other' section of the Party Finder.

It pretty much is entirely an NA server thing. It's obnoxious because I wanna find roleplay that isn't cafe or nightclub stuff and party finder is often filled with so many ads for Nightclubs (sometimes three for the same one) I can't find anything.
Again, and I'm repeating this, I have no issue with people who like clubbing. I hate the Nightclubs themselves for being spammy, obnoxious in said spam, and the skirting to flagrant ignorance of TOS.
not all clubs are ERP cess pools, most are just people dancing chatting and having a good time. Why yuck our yum?
Would you read the thread or even the original post?
I HAVE ZERO PROBLEMS WITH THE NIGHTCLUB GOERS. MOST OF US DON'T CARE IF YOU LIKE THEM.
The problem is the spam, and the fact that non-nightclub venues get buried under said spam. There's also some that definitely skirt TOS, but I lack receipts to numerically prove it.
You guys are fine, your vibe isn't my vibe and that's fine.
Whaaaaat? EU is full of nightclubs too, lol. And bars. And cafes. Nothing wrong with it tho, to each their own. If players have fun with it then well live and let live.
The only problem i have is when it comes to the amount of spam, like posting your advertisement once every hour somewhere i think is totally alright but i have seen also people spamming like every 5min which can get really obnoxious.
SE could easily fix that by just introducing a new chat for like FC recruitment and such Events...or a different section in the partyfinder for player events.
Something I was always curious of, its always “live DJ whatever”…how exactly? Is it again some bard playing the song of his people and being called a “dj” or do they all go to discord and some kid blasts his music through the headphones? Or they watch some streamer listening to music? What the hell is a live dj in ffxiv?
Actual DJs is a debatable term. If you aren't getting gigs irl and only play in your bedroom through Virtual DJ/Spotify then yeah....no. The only one I know off hand and have a form of appreciation for is PaullyRot and that's only because he has 25 years experience irl and actually spins on decks.
My standards might be high though as someone who used to DJ at raves.
I have nothing against nightclubs.
My issue is with the venues which have multiple people creating identical pf listings advertising the exact same place.
Advertise your own place. I don't care. Just don't hire 10 other people to fill the pf with spam.
sure its christforsaken? i dont think anybody really can be sure about that
I mean, I'm not convinced that Jesus wouldn't go to a venue and hang out with the sinners. He'd probably be all up in there, doing Jesus-y stuff.
On topic though, speaking of venues, I was seeing some being advertised in the shout tonight and was wondering, what exactly do people do there? Just chat with their buddies? Like a virtual bar or something?
I agree that shout chat gets crowded with long ad messages, but I don't mind the Party Finder ads simply because they get to be separated in their own tab.
Want less nightclubs? Pester SE to add more content on a more frequent basis. Most of these Nightclubs were the result of people doing boredom projects.
I went to a club once because a friend didn't want to go alone, there were about 40 ppl in the cellar doing bees knees dance, chat was empty exept for the owners/staff advertising the dj's twitch stream (i checked it out, 8 ppl watching, i didn't like the music at all) and shouting gambling would be starting soon.
I left after 5 min, I dont do RP in ff14 maybe it's more fun if u do but to me it felt boring and was a waste of time.
That's kinda the problem - blacklisting doesn't help. They're like a hydra. You blacklist one person and three more pop up shouting the same ad for the same venues. The only way to get rid of it is disabling /shout chat and there are cases when you really don't want to have it off.
Just to point out, there's not much ToS skirting that can be done in this case since a lot is allowed or not on there at all.
ERP is fine in private spaces (i.e. a house)
There's nothing in the ToS stopping someone from listing a PF ad as 18+
Selling in game services might be a gray area at best because it's obvious they wrote that into the ToS to prevent RMT clear sells. There also is nothing specifically preventing selling ERP services though.
The only thing that could be considered a violation is the repetitive ad posts in shout chat. I say could because it doesn't seem like Square agrees with me on that with how long they've been allowed to carry on.
I was gonna suggest just making RP dedicated worlds like other MMOs did in the past, but then I thought it would just make more evident how the playerbase interested in mechanical gameplay has diminished. I mean, we're still some distance from becoming the outright cyber brothel combined with a Californian neighborhood PSO2 has become, but I believe Dawntrail will just open the floodgates; SE knows who the whales are.
They are kind of silly and most of them really lack some purpose as well...
Not really all that different from the way players would hang out in hubs in any MMORPG when they weren't actively raiding or PvPing (or hanging out in the base camps in Eureka/Bozja waiting on other players to spawn the NM and CEs).
The difference is they've got the ability to set up customized locations to use between content via player housing. Things really haven't changed all that much.
Considering the way many of the venues are run, I don't see them as RP at all. They truly are just virtual nightclubs where ordinary people hang out as their ordinary selves.
I'm sure there's some genuine RP out there but it's not visible at a casual glance and it's certainly not happening at the venues.
The only RP happening at clubs is ERP. Most of the real roleplaying venues have moved off of PF since their listings get drowned out by the endless club ads. If you're interested in roleplaying check out the FFXIV RP Discord. There are plenty of RP venues still out there that you may enjoy. :)
I am in a FF14 night club every night. xD I do not see why it is bad. If you do not like the advertisements then there is a block list.
Cheers
RP isn't really my thing, I limit myself to being as nice and polite as possible to everyone I meet in game (which admittedly isn't that many).
That having been said, I really should go check out one of these clubs one day just to see what's going on. Maybe I'm missing something. Or maybe not.
I don't think I have ever seen anyone shout for a night club in game.
That doesn't work as noted in a post on the same page as your own.
And to add to that, every club insists on posting 5+ ads for the same venue on PF, so the Other tab is unusable for anything that isn't a club during primetime.
Clubs existing isn't the problem. Nobody cares what you get off to in private. What is increasingly annoying the greater community is that these clubs go far out of their way to shove their club in everyone's face as much as possible. There is no escaping it no matter how hard you try without disabling entire chat channels or using third party tools to filter it, which is ridiculous.
Telling people frustrated by that behavior to just not look at it is like your neighbor shitting on your lawn and saying "well just don't look out the window."
So...does anyone want to watch me put on 2B bottoms, Bees Knees, and then just do that for 30 minutes as I drive off to run some errands?
I'm guessing this is an "issue" that varies from server to server. In Siren, I see an ad for a club in shout every now and then when I'm in a city, but it's far from the point where I feel like it's close to drowning my log.
As far as what you can do about it, it depends on whether they're breaking the ToS. For example, if it's one specific venue that is literally spamming via one or multiple players, then you can probably report that.
But if it's just that you don't want to see that kind of content, you're probably out of luck. It's up to each individual player to decide what to use the chat channels we've been given for, and because it arbitrarily messages everyone in a zone, /shout is basically an announcement channel. Some announcements you might care about, but generally speaking most probably aren't for you. Such is the nature of humans and their varying, subjective interests.
Regardless, if the content of a communication channel is frustrating you, your best bet is probably to disable that channel. Alternatively, you could make at least one of your chat tabs filter out shouts, so that when you go into a city you can switch to that tab and experience life ad-free.
I just wish they didn't shout spam in Balmung Uldah. We are exactly where we want to be. If you think we are leaving our normal stomping grounds to take one look at your venue and see it's exactly like all the others...you are mistaken.
I wonder if the DC affects how often you get bombarded in Yell/Shout. I'm from Primal and it happens once in a while in Gridania, and it's the reason why I avoid Limsa like the plague. The rest of the time it's the same Monty Goon dude inviting me to his FC every day, and despite those issues I've had no problem.
Now, the PF thing though, that's annoying to see used as an Ad Board.
