So, I skipped the last 3-4 pages, because they were getting redundant... But, whatever. This is going to be ignored, due to length, by a lot of people... Which is fine... I, generally, leave posts lying around and forget them.

I agree with some, the Viera hate is sophomoric. The thing is people will find a way to pervert anything; you can throw the fan-fic-fantasy notion out the window. Not everyone is so depraved. I rather enjoyed the notion that a rabbit-like race might be an option, regardless of what we do get. The name drop may have been an error on the part of the poster, BUT it was a reason that so many voted for it. More voters wanted a Viera like race, than the others.

That being said... Why does it mean that they are doomed to be another bastardization of personal preference in the worst sense rather than for the better? Mithra were warriors in XI... They fought shit, the had bad attitudes, and they were proud. Clearly, a far cry from the Miqo'te we have to deal with now. The fan service has its place with the Miqo'te and Lalafel... You want cute/annoying? You have that option, already. It wasn't only races that they wanted to know about.

In case you don't remember: The Mithra were very lioness-like (warriors, hunters, gatherers)... They were serious biz; and A LOT of people played them for the stats, not the cuteness. Male mithra (when the big one got introduced) were very effeminate. What's to say the roles haven't been reversed? The stance that the pic posted earlier suggests a more (uh-hmm) testosterone driven character. Whose to say they won't be the aggressive (stray cat-like) balance to the decidedly cutesy Miqo'te? The bishounen notion is based on a picture without context.

Sure, I have my opinions (and gripes... WTF with elezen males)... But, the bitching about a Viera-type race has virtually no foundation to stand on by anyone playing anything not Hyur. We are all playing in a fantasy; that's the point. So save your bitching about choices people want and focus on what needs to be focused on. There are bigger problems to be so adamant about.

I would rather see something with some scales, personally; but if cat-boy or bunny-boy has the chops to fit my personality, I'll run with it. I went with Elezen, because of XI's Elvaan... I am regretting my adherence and counting the days till I can change, if I choose to. That is what personal preference is.

As far as continuity: Get your shit straight. You say no to other FF aspects, outside of XI (the only online one, hence the races we have and yada-yada)? But, weren't you just bitching about this game isn't XI, and if you want XI then go play that? Oh, wait...

Magitek? Yup; definitely from another FF that isn't XI.

Jobs system? Yup; waaaay before XI.

There are (and will be) tons more tie-backs to previous FFs... Why is that a problem for so many? Viera is one you hate, but you want a Magitek armor to ride in. The game came out with references and inspirations to several FFs prior to XI... Until recently, there was a lot of differences between XI and XIV. THAT'S WHAT FINAL FANTASY IS ABOUT. The familiarity is what keeps us tied to this legacy... And people have different feelings about what FF means to them. So, get over it.

If something you want doesn't get implemented, you will rage... If something you don't want gets implemented, you will rage.

Sigh, I´m kind of dissapointed with the majority of the people wanting Vieras in this game....

I know, Vieras are cool, I love the race and is great, but the fact is that we have already the mi´qotes, that all the races are pretty humanlike and it would be more easy and believable to see lizardmen as we already have the beastmen, who could changes their heart about the fives races and join them.

I voted for mixed races, but more options for the races we have already appealed to mee too. Personally I love our five races, and this two option offer a LOT of new and interesting choices to create them. With mixed races you can have Viera like character creating the child of a Elezen (long thin ears and elegancy, deep connection to the nature) and Mi´qote(animal ears and tail and some of them animal eyes).

And if we have to add another race, I would preffer and unique and interesting choice. Not another elf/catgirl/human/dwarf/whateverthehelltheroegadynare race, but a more animal/spiritual/monster/aether/crystal/whateveryouwant race.

Anyways... I have found a way to fix my boy Zaaku's very vocal issue. A new clan of Roegadyns that still have tails.

It's win all around. Galkans had purists that adhered to there true name over their given names... What's to say Roeg tails can't be reflective of the same symbolism?

Pick Roeg... Chose tailed clan... Be different.

Mixed races, Mi,qote + Roegadyn= Roegadyn with tails (without hair) and slighty longer ears (and maybe more facial hair ).

Or yeah, a new clan would be good too, but only if they add a new one to Mi´qotes too for having to play as a single gender race for so many time !

I wanted to address this separately, because he (it is a he, right... I can never tell with Lalas... Please accept my apologies) expresses his 'disappointment'. A few others have as well, but I like the logic and the counter-stance.

My opinion is: Sure... We could have mixed races. But, how is that out of the realm of over-sexualized or out of place in XIV? Imaginations run wild with diversity. People, in REAL LIFE, still struggle with accepting it. Some people can't party with a German, French, or Japanese players.

While some can't accept something new, they want to embrace an idea of something new through the mashing of the familiar. It's still new.

For example: People have mentioned Burmecian-like races... But, they exist in XIV as they did in XI. Ququrin? (spelling, I know)

To make that work would require a feasible story of how a (for all intensive purposes) rat made out with a chick at a kegger. Then the offspring could share the traits of a human, but display the subdued traits of another mammalian species. (ala-Miqo'te/Mithra in a wierd sense...)

A Viera-like race is an example of something familiar (to FF vets) yet new (to the masses SE needs)... Mixed races, while appealing, can't outweigh need for something familiar. The races we have now are a product of the ONLY other online FF. And A LOT of people have never even played/heard of it. (as far as I know... the peak was 2 or 3 million world-wide, for XI)

Yoshi wants this to be an amusement park. (And many forget he is a gamer) Viera, probably, got mentioned because it was what he imagined the community was thinking. I don't fault the logic, at all. And, obviously he was right. The fans spoke.

A Viera-like race is (imho) more marketable than mixing races that have already been fan-fic'd about 10 years ago.

Yes... It would be awesome to see mixed races. But, the burden of implementing that (I imagine) would be far greater than bringing in something familiar (and popular), into the mix, that didn't require an extensive amount of work/resources.

I've always really loved Viera and I hope they are added to the game. I'm so tired of the nekoservants known as miqo'te, I want a beast race that actually looks somewhat animal-ish. I also really like that Viera are spiritual/mystic in nature as well as beast-y.

I hate Viera, Almost enough to quit the game permanently if they are added. I don't think the game needs more races like to the Miqo'te. I want something different.

Beyond that, I don't have any problem with Viera, and I'm a huge FF12 fan, but races like the Bangaa would be great additions too. Maybe not exactly, because floppy ears, but something similar.

I think the race tribe variants are how we will get Roeg's their tails back.

I'd personally like to see Viera in its own online game. FFXII-online! FFOnline: The Ivalice Alliance! Then they could add all of Ivalice's races to that MMO :D

I don't think we'll see Viera in this game - it was just an example. He wanted us to think cutesie for mammalian race, not big ol' Papa Bear.

I'd personally much rather see a raccoon or skunk themed race. Or dare I say... RED PANDA!

And HOW IN THE WORLD does Tera have ANYTHING to do with Viera or Final Fantasy? The armor styles on Viera aren't even close to slutty. PLUS if you look at how all the equipment is still the same on all the races we have now, what would make the Viera any different if they were added? I question how some of you people think lol

If the Devs want to add a new race or races,then they will add them. Its not our place to say: "it will be time consuming to change all the armor to fit the new races". This is their job, they know how to adapt and create new things to expand on an mmo. They have been working on 2.0 for almost two years now. For all we know races have been in for a while and Yoshi is just playing with us to see if he is on the right track with the things he has chosen to do.

Don't tell Yoshi's team they can't handle making new races. Its annoying to hear.

Fox or wolf-like would've been cool. Maybe it could pass as another subdivision along with the two already there. But I never did like how any of the customizations I did with Miqo'te turned out. We could do with more options for everything. Then there's the issue with the bushy tail... It looks bad to see a Miqo'te's tail cut through a robe, and with a tail like that I can only imagine.

Maybe it could fly if it was less like a human and more like Fox and Krystal from Star Fox or some of the designs in Solatorobo. Then perhaps this mammalian demi-beastmen thing would actually be cool.

But really, if they want to go in this direction then I would much prefer for them to come up with a variety of "mammalian demi-beastmen" designs and let us take a vote upon those. I love art and seeing new and interesting things, but Viera is by far one of the worst aesthetic designs I have ever seen in my life.

It said "beastmen" I'm assuming therefore, even if they added a viera like creature, it would look more like a monster than a playable character.

To each their own...

But my certainty is based on what I've seen the devs do up to this point with assets they've used from other FF games:

• The "Materia" system was a tentative name, but they kept it because it was evocative of FFVII.
  
• "Artifact Armor" was a tentative name, but they kept it because it was evocative of FFXI.
  
• The' Magitek Armor' design is 100% identical to the FFVI version.
  
• The 'Crystal Tower' is lifted straight out of FFIII
  
• We have Gunblades (FFVIII), Twin Moons (FFIV), Primal Garuda (FFXI), etc. etc...

When the devs 'preview' something, 99% of the time, they end up going with it -- They want to fulfill positive expectations and they also go with the safest route.

The survey told them that players were more in favor of 'Viera' (by name) than any other option. Since the race has both a history and a fanbase from it's appearance in other FF games, its an obvious addition.

So, yeah, I'm near certain that's what we will get.

**I'm still holding out hope that they are called something other than 'Viera' though...Just to keep Ivalice lore separate.

I'm just glad the other choices came pretty close to etching out the bunny lovers.

Hopefully the developers notice that most people just want more diversity than a single new race.

'Viera' + 'More customization options' seems to be the likely outcome of this.

A double win as far as I'm concerned.

I find it kind of funny that some seem to be thinking if Viera were added they'd be scantily clad. They'd be wearing the same things all the other races wear now..

I don't think of Viera as overly sexual at all. They're mysterious, elegant, keep to themselves, spiritual.. There's no race like them in the game.
I would explode with happiness if they were added to Hydaelyn, and I think they'd fit in wonderfully.

(I hope that one day Viera are added, and Red Mage as well so I can play my favourite from FF Tactics Advance! XD)
