everything that follows has been my personal experience and is in no way an indication of the whole playerbase
of course they avoided doing big pulls so far, because almost nobody, even the elusive tryhard elitists in casual content, won't say a peep when they see a player playing like this because it's a complete waste of time
players who play like that in endgame content are extremely unlikely to ever change their playstyle because of a few reasons:
1. why change it if they've gone hundreds or thousands of hours the way they've been playing and have never gotten critisized for it
2. why change if the majority of the community thinks doing 0 dps as a healer in endgame content is perfectly fine
3. why change if you get commendations from every dungeon, trial or raid and thus, at least in your skewed view, have done a good job, because why else would people commend you?
bonus:
4. why change if a friend or a random told you to play exactly like this? they know better, so they must be right, right?
I've now seen multiple base healing spell healers in eden and nier raids, where the mere suggestion to use other abilities, even just the upgraded variants, by a variety of people, also worded nicely, was met with instant hostility by said players and random people from their or another alliance because they absolutely have to defend this person that is actively playing badly and getting their party/alliance killed because of their lack of heals and have to insult and demean the people trying to HELP
I've seen people who kept dragging AOE markers into big groups of people and killing get angrily defended because "they don't know the fight" when it wasn't their first time, when it happened again and again and again despite multiple people explaining it, with the people explaining it getting insulted and called names because who the f knows why, but they must be bad, right?
the obsession some, no, a sizeable size of the playerbase has with appearing as virtuous and nice while they rabidly defend players trolling or actively playing badly out of some misguided sense of self-worth, and in turn actively insult the players who point said things out and paint them as toxic and whatnot, is actually annoying and shows how fake the niceness can be and is
but that's what the tank did? they just decided that they'll single pull without asking the rest and because the community is filled with all those oh so virtuous people that must shield those poor poor souls that cannot defend themselves, you have people who immediately jump to the defense of players like that because they want to be seen as nice, not because the particularly care about this stranger, sometimes even going as far as to insult the "offender"
a tank that's single pulling in level 80 content shouldn't play tank in DF and instead use PF, play with friends or use trusts, the thing designed FOR them, and not force other people to sit through a dungeon for longer than they should
