I got two to desktop crashes, and one full graphics card crash today. I'll try that, and see if it's better. I also updated everything - Windows, Dx11, Drivers, the whole lot
Greetings!
I'm here to join the "DX11 errors" and "Crash to desktop without errors" club as well, the game is unplayable for me right now on DX11.
CPU: i7 8700K
GPU: RTX 2080
Windows 10: Version 2004 (Build 19041.329)
NVidia Driver: 446.14
However, when I turn off DX11 Support (downloaded DirectX Web Installer and installed DirectX 9.0c), the game runs pretty stable, there are some minor graphic glitches in-game, but at least I can play for now.
Same bullshit here on my rig. Have a Ryzen 3600 and RTX 2070 Super, have tried multiple driver versions, reinstalling ShB, underclocking RAM and GPU to no avail. Fix your game square....
Only been playing for a little under 2 weeks and I can't story progress after lvl 40 due to the fact my directX crashes consistently no matter what graphics level I set it on. Still on my free trial even:confused:
Did that fix your problem? I disabled XMP and have everthing set to "auto". Bios i the newest, no failures on MemTest86, Windows-Ramtest, 1-Night of Prime95, Memtes70. Even reinstalled my Graka-driver with deinstalling it first through DDU. I dont get that i had 5 days no trouble at all and just after posting it on the forum the next day my game keeps crashing again out of nowhere <.<"
I'm facing this issue - I cannot get into one of the final dungeons in SHB. I'd tried everything - changing the refresh rates, uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers, updated my motherboard's bios etc. Nothing seem to work. I'm peeved.
I'm using a Ryzen 1700 with a RX5700XT on Windows 10 N edition.
My game crashes without giving an error : ' ) I tried every solution, at last i formatted my pc and reinstalled the game.Nothing has changed, it still crashes.
This is truly frustrating getting d/cd in middle of dungeon and stuff. I had a few instance that i just got dropped off the game with out notice. And a couple of computer shut off. I just want to play my game :mad::mad::mad:
Now I am having these unexpected errors myself. I restarted my computer, even reset system settings, and I have the same issue with directX 11
Been having the same issue since 5.25. Very sporadic, some days it never crashes, then I'll hit a patch where it crashes to desktop several times in an hour. Sometimes it gives me the DX11 errors, sometimes nothing. Very frustrating.
Hey, for ppl with the "unknown ctd"-Error. I did 2 diffrent things that, well atleast till know, "fixed" it or it didnt happen again:
I deleted the graphics driver (mine is nvidia) with DDU and installed the "studio" version of it instead of the "game ready" (and no Geforce experience^^").
The second thing (thanks @Mihari from the German side^^) is that i manually installed the "bug fix update - KB4567512" https://www.catalog.update.microsoft...px?q=KB4567512 <---dunno if this link works for ya but it helped me atleast for now!
Hello. I have been experiencing the same issue as most here "FFXIV crashing without any error."
I disabled GeForce Experience (closed out of it from the start bar) as another poster suggested it. I also have tried most of the suggestions here already, except for closing out of the GeForce completely. Will come back and update how it goes.
I posted on reddit the following and will come back here if I receive any other suggestions from the reddit world:
Two days ago, I did the usual windows update and also updated my drivers (NVIDIA). Since then, FFXIV closing out without any error at all has increased (before it was just maybe once every few weeks). I am not overclocking and my computer is about a year old.
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 1700X - Eight Core Processor 3.40 GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 16.0 GB
System Type: 64-bit operating system, x64 based processor
Windows 10 being used
What I have tried:
- opened bios to make sure OC was not turned on
Re-installed FFXIV
Re-installed drivers (I use GeForce Experience to update drivers, but I have the in-game overlay always off)
Tried using FFXIV without any other programs open, including discord (I have two monitors, so I don't use the discord overlay)
Looked for a pattern of occurrence - was more frequent in alliance raids, but happens when just standing still in an unpopulated area - no pattern currently seen
Edit: Also turned off the Windows 10 game bar
Any other suggestions are welcome. Today has been the worst out of the two days.
Don't know if this will help anyone. I was only getting the crash without an error. I opened my event viewer and found a 455 error. It showed a folder:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer\Database\EDB.log.
So, when I looked, this folder didn't exist. So I created the folder. I did it the backway using the command propt (CMD).
"Open a CMD shell as Administrator.
That started me off in c:\Windows\system32.
cd config\systemprofile\AppData\Local
mkdir TileDataLayer
cd TileDataLayer
mkdir Database"

I have been playing for 1 hour and 30 minutes and have not crashed yet. (I still have the GeForce Experience closed out as well from the start bar/app tray)
I have had this issue for months now, and there seems to be no workaround for me.
The game either shuts down without any error message or I get this:
http://prntscr.com/t7hi2o
I have tried everything that I could think of:
- reinstalled the game
- updated drivers
- closed all overlay applications
- switched to DX9
- bougth a new GPU
- disabled full screen optimization, etc...
This error only occurs in FFXIV, and it seems to be related to NVIDIA cards. My savage and ultimate static groups cannot rely on me until this error is fixed. It is completely unpredictable and many users seem to be affected. Please Square, help us out here ...
I have been having this since stormblood, sometimes it gets bad like 3 times every 30 minutes and sometimes ill see it once a day. Please fix this I have updated drivers, formatted my HD reinstalled windows and FFXIV clean, tried under clocking my CPU, turn off all overlays everything. This is damn annoying crashing to desktop and not being able to raid any more.
Same issues. Took a few months off, decided to come back and play, can't play for more than 20 minutes without the errors.
Yes, I am also having this issue. brand new PC so i have a fresh OS, fresh drivers. i have disabled all overlays from AMD and Steam and Discord. all windows updates are installed.
my game crashes every time i enter or leave a duty. and at random other times.
This is completely unacceptable. FFXIV is the only game i have any issues with
Like my title says, I'm also having issues, though it appears to be a bit more unique from others. I've made a thread of the same name with no responses to it yet.
Why'd they have to remove DX9 support. That was the only way for me to not have this problem outside of hunt trains. Now i could just be afking at an aethryte with like 1 other person and crash.
I already have my graphics set down to mostly low. Don't even need to have a stream on the background for the game to crash.
I was able to fix my issue and heres how. in my desktop shortcut, i edited the shortcut path from ffxivboot.exe to ffxivboot64.exe. Then, i went to ffxivboot64.exe file, and changed the compatibility settings to windows 7.
doing that on top of making sure i had the most up to date stable drivers, and disabling all overlays has solved the problems for me and i can run the game in DX11.
The game is now unplayable, I can not stay on longer then 10 minutes before getting booted. I have tried rolling back gpu drivers, formatting and reinstalling windows, underclocking my GPU. there are threads about this all over the internet, why hasn't this been fixed yet. it seems to happen alot with nvidia 980m cards.
If you have a monitor with higher refresh rate than 90, try to lower the refresh rate, after i lowered mine to 60hz i don't get any crashes at all.
Edit: still crashes.
Yep, I'm having it too...this is ridiculous and it's only happening on this game
I have recently switched from console to pc for FFXIV and the game worked fine until yesterday where I started experiencing DX11 errors in certain areas. I was able to move away from the area and the problem fixed itself until today. Today I was fast traveling to Limsa Lominsa and the game crashed while fast traveling so I cant get into the game.
I get error codes:
ffxiv_dx11.exe+1B3704
ffxiv_dx11.exe+1b0482
ffxiv_dx11.exe+199811
ffxiv_dx11.exe+193F35
ffxiv_dx11.exe+192C7E
ffxiv_dx11.exe+18D1C2
ffxiv_dx11.exe+12DE419
KERNEL32.DLL+17BD4
Please help. I really enjoy this game and would like to be able to play again.
Freshly installed after downloading for about 18 hours. Fails to launch, entirely.

Hi ,
Registered on here so I could post on this thread aswell. Been a player since Heavensward and suffered from this issue too but figured it was my rig at the time and the problem fixed itself later on when I upgraded.
Started playing again few weeks ago no issues but now I arrive in the post Stormblood part and for some reason most cutscenes involving that trigger the same DX11 error message. First happened for me in drowned city of Skalla when facing last boss. And now it keeps happening whenever I try to advance the main quest and I get a cutscene.
Right now I'm stuck at "The Butcher's Blood" I get to the point where the Echo triggers and well let's say the butcher butchered me :p .
I've tried most mentioned fixes except touching the clockspeed of G-card. Don't quite see how that could effect a specific part of the game when all else prior to this content-wise is good.

Yep, I'm having it too. What is the point of paying for a game you can't play. I too have tried everything :
- uninstalled basically every other app on my pc
- reinstalled Steam Loader
- reinstalled Steam Full Game
- upgrade AMD drivers
- downgrade AMD drivers,
- DX9
- turn off firewall
- remove all start up apps
- restart DWM
Nothing works.
How did you enable DX9 for it , can't seem to do that myself ?
im having the same issue with directx 11 it baffles me that a bug of 2 years still exist no wonder the playerbase is decreasing
Well for what it's worth I fixed my issue ,
The game started just doing instant CTD's aswell . Turned out the problem in my case was the fact that I had the game installed on a steam folder on a seperate SSD. I reinstalled for the 4th time but this time in my main drive and now it's all good again.
Maybe the game couldn't load the data from the external SDD quick enough I dunno. Still seems weird I could acces whole of ARR , HW and main SB quest without any issues but as soon as post SB content started issues happened.
Anyway hope this helps some other people too :) !
Same happened to me today.

It happened after it told me, my password was wrong, but pretty sure I typed it out correctly...
Edit: I restarted my router earlier, and this crash happens every now and then upon first login.
Happening to me too. Game is unplayable. Crashes only when I log in to certain characters. Fixed it once by reinstalling the game. Pretty annoying that I have to do that agaaain though. Very annoyed by this and making me regret getting back into the game again. If my friends didn't play and I didn't have a house I'd probably just quit.
Hello! I was recently suffering from DX11 crashes like the ones in this thread and referred to it for help while fixing my problem. I've never had trouble with the game before until after upgrading my PC (motherboard, RAM, SSD, basically everything except my GPU) I started having crashes only in FFXIV and no other games.
I should note my crashes specifically involved me being in crowded areas or anything graphically intensive, otherwise it was (for the most part) stable. I tried all the usual: reinstalled my drivers, my game, windows itself, removed any programs that might have conflicts like reshade, and nothing worked.
After much trouble, I finally found the problem: the settings for my RAM in my system's BIOS. I'm not a computer expert so my understanding is limited by from friends who helped me it seemed that my system was attempting to run higher than what it was capable of which resulted in FFXIV crashing constantly with DX11 errors. I had to read into my motherboard and RAM's capabilities to find out the numbers and had a friend go in and help me set it right. Lo and behold I have no more crashes and no more issues.
If you're having troubles with the game still I suggest you to look into if it may be some kind of hardware issue. Find someone that can help you look and check these settings if you have no idea how to do that. I do NOT recommend changing anything in your BIOS without help!!
I really hope this helps someone out and saves them from the month of stress I had to go through trying to resolve this! :o
Brand NEW COMPUTER, not even two weeks old and I get random DCs back to the lobby. I never had this issue on my old computer, how can I tell if it is S-E or possibly my computer?
Same problem here.
Has been going on for approximately two months now. If I stay within a zone, the game will continue functioning for five to thirty minutes before it crashes. If I attempt to teleport or enter a new zone, it automatically crashes on Loading Screen entry. I have not attempted any other activity simply because I have no idea if it will crash because of Combat or Cutscene, or if it will be just because of the game's execution. The only place I have not had a crash occur has been when I've been in the Crystarium Inn Room (the one accessed via The Pendants - current streak of no crashes is 3.5 hours, before I had to shut computer down for Windows updates). Each time the crash has occurred, some variant of the following has been displayed. On hitting 'Okay,' the game closes - but depending on where I am, sometimes I'll have that error on my screen and still be able to move around and interact with the world I'm loaded into.
"An unexpected error has occurred. Exiting FINAL FANTASY XIV.
<current date and time>
ffxiv_dx11.exe+1297DD7
ffxiv_dx11.exe+12113C09
ffxiv_dx11.exe+45359C
ffxiv_dx11.exe+18D1C2
ffxiv_dx11.exe+12DE419
KERNEL32.DLL+17BD4
ntdll.dll+6CE51"
Sometimes it's swapped out KERNEL32 and ntdll.dll with a few extra ffxiv_dx11 strings, other times the ntdll.dll strings are the entire list of errors.
I have attempted to fix this issue through the following:
++Uninstall & Reinstall the Game
++Uninstall, Delete All Documents Still On Computer, Reinstall
++Adjusted NVIDIA control panel, change game graphical settings to lowest possible at Title Screen
++Updated all drivers
++Disabled full screen optimization
++Defragged computer
++Uninstalled and Reinstalled DirectX11
++Attempted to run game on DX9
++Uninstalled, Reinstalled, and attempted DX9
++Ran as Administrator
++Turned Off Firewall
++Cleaned computer of all other applications, then attempted to run
++Gave up for two weeks, tried again later, hoped that it was a hiccup
++attempted to acquire a crash log to see which files were having the issue - no dice, apparently FFXIV has an internal system that crashes the game on detecting a problem. Verified this with another game as well, so I know I was doing the crash-log process correctly.
++gave up, went into BIOS settings, told the RAM to get the fuck over itself
++gave up again, used a recently factory-reset laptop on a lark. Noticeable difference: This attempt, the game ran fine for 2 hours... Then crashed with a variant of the above message.
I'm this close to seeing if the machine spirits are real and trying to apply ritual ointments and binary prayers to the Omnissiah.
After pulling my hair out trying about 15 or so "fixes", the thing that finally ended up working for me was updating/flashing my motherboard's BIOS to the latest firmware.
Turns out it was really in need of an update, it was at 1.XX and I updated to 4.XX.
If you've tried everything else, maybe consider this. Just know that it's (potentially) dangerous to your hardware/might cause additional problems if something goes wrong so try it at your own risk and do some research beforehand. I am not responsible for anything bad that may happen.
I've gone 5 days in a row now with zero crashes after averaging maybe 2-6 per day before doing this. I don't know exactly why it worked, but it worked. No more dx11/ntdll/kernel32 nonsense.
