The sad part in all this is that we have to put up with the troll necroing half the forum. But when I make a post in that "There's a difference between speedrunning and being rude." thread explaining that the OP might just not see it in the same light and that the tank could very well have wanted to help him/her get to the boss faster without having to run through a third of the instance.. I get my post removed within hours... I can't even think of what would even prompt them to remove that post... I don't know anymore.
The post I quoted did indeed get removed, but I don't remember it being anything worthy of being removed. Also, my comment could have stood by itself within the thread.
Anyways, it doesn't really matter, I'm just a little sad that we have some mod presence but necro is still here polluting the forum.
Yeah, if a post gets deleted then they'll also delete everything that chains on from it, no matter how inoffensive. It's systematic (if not automated) and there doesn't seem to be any judgement of the post contents involved.
The worst is when you write a long post replying to ten different people and one of those quoted posts gets modded. Goodbye everything. :/
The thing is, yes you can ignore it. Yes you can skim over to the next post. But it still takes more mental effort to do so. It's like someone deliberately dropping rocks on a path - you can still walk down it but you're going to have to watch where you step the whole time.
It's also the intent. The constant revival of negative posts and arguments. Already the forum tends towards these sort of posts but they build up over months, and now all of them have been pushed back up at once.
(To repeat myself, though I lose track of which thread I wrote it in - I am fine with old threads reappearing in general, especially if the discussion is interesting, and I appreciate that forums let you read back through all the old conversation before joining in. Building on an existing thread is better than starting over and having to repeat it! But most of these threads aren't being brought up to discuss them again, just to get in the way - and that makes people less likely to want to engage in them even if the topic would be interesting.)
Additionally, it's tiring having to second-guess every new poster's intent.
These accounts need to be banned and action needs to be taken against his actual FF account which at this point in my opinion needs a perma ban. Purposely trying to disrupt the General Discussion forums should not be tolerated and it appears banning any specific account here doesn't do much good given he/she just creates another to do the same thing.
Gotten to the point where I don't spend much time here anymore. It's not worth having to sift though his bumped threads ad nauseum.
I am now checking the post date on every thread before I click, because so much on the front page recently has been old threads.
I used to enjoy coming here and reading about current topics and participating in current debates, but recently it's been dispiriting. I'm not enjoying seeing the front page flooded with old topics and I'm not enjoying the extra effort I need to make to avoid getting sucked into this strange little game. This is just killing all enjoyment of the forum for me.
Not really when it's chronic and he's been doing it for months with the intent of disrupting the forum. There needs to be a penalty that is more severe and which suits his willingness to destroy a forum and it's membership. Sorry but I have no sympathy for a chronic troll given banning his troll accounts doesn't seem to work as long as he has a sub and just makes new ones.
If it's not breaking the TOS then they need to change the TOS to cover this type of behavior. Sorry it's not acceptable.
I do the same and I've put the accounts on ignore. The bottom line though for me is it's not worth sorting through threads and having to try and find ones he's not bumped to stir the pot. It's a lot easier just not to spend time here.
Rather then getting all bent out of shape about a certain someone, y'all should make like healers and adjust. It's obvious that they like this place (in their own unorthodox way), but if the mods can't do anything about it then neither can anyone else. So all should be welcomed with open arms no matter how many of them actually exist! :D
I have a Question to Titanmen, or what ever alt he uses...
My question is this, Why? That's all, really Why? It's clear you do have some interesting ideas ...
and you have an interesting sense of humor...
So why? Why do it? Why raise old posts, when you can clearly come up with new ones that are funny, interesting, or flat out brilliant troll posts, why raise boring threads...
when you have gold you can create?
More or less how I feel as well. It doesn't have the poor moderation makes reddit better. Which is saying a LOT.
I disagree. The whole purpose is to prevent someone from being disruptive. Nothing would encourage that more than a month long ban from the game itself.
Several of his recent posts/threads are literal copy/pastes from old threads or reddit. They aren't actually his opinion. His whole goal is just to create drama and annoy people. It works because the mods here are extremely hands off.
Remember the ancient internet adage: "Don't feed the trolls."
Unfortunately, the fact people have unexpressed opinions on "subjects" brought up or resurrected from the dead guarantees their success. (I use the term "subject" here very loosely because anyone who's been on the internet for any significant length of time can see a troll for what it is; people either don't realize it or don't care.)
Banning the account(s) won't work; s/he can just make new ones. Making a set archival date will just limit how far back s/he can go back (and is an unpopular move besides, apparently). Short of moderator intervention only ignoring such a character will produce results; apparently the moderators don't want to / can't do anything about it and people lack the discipline to ignore the troll in question.
Noble as your intentions may be, making a PSA thread warning the rest of the forum about the troll that has taken up residence here is only increases their visibility, which is precisely their objective. The only way to win this game is not to play.
I feel the PSA's goal is not only to let people know of a certain troll resurrecting threads, but to also encourage people to actively start focusing on when the thread was made, who the most previous poster was and if they do click into it, see if a certain someone was the necromancer.
All that said, I haven't been visiting these forums lately because I'm just seeing old controversial opinion threads popping up again and there's no real discussion going on in them since the OP people immediately respond to most likely doesn't visit the forums any more themselves, or quit the game long ago. Can't feed a troll if the troll makes people leave :/
Either the mods don’t care, or are just too lazy to do their damn jobs.
At least he's considerate this time, spamming at 3:30 AM in the morning.
And just in time before all of the NEW housing threads complaining about the same thing pop up... oh wait they already started
Don't let the troll convince you to give into the hate y'all. That path leads to the dark side.
Maybe they should fix it where if a thread has no posts for over 30 days it gets deleted from the forums. It also doesn't bother me go to other pages to read posts there.
A certain lalafell is going around necroing old threads. Be careful.
I can miss the irony of a thread about necro threads being be necroed.
I would never play as an elezen.
Atleast the faking of activity on this forum is doing wonderful! I dont see anyone getting fired for doing such a good job :) ....You are getting payed for doing this right.
Even if I notice a thread is a 10 year old necro, if the thread becomes active again for any reason and I have something to say on the topic I likely will. I don't really care if the person I'm addressing will ever reply back, they're mainly just a prop/excuse to make whatever point I want to make.
This is such a relevant warning for these dark times :(
Feeling a bit attacked eh buddy? Going on the offensive to prove a point?
